Nice place for vegan dinner in main location

Maitrea was the only restaurant suitable for having a vegan dinner in Prague that I have been to. Is it located within a one minute walk from the old town square and astronomical clock tower. Very nice atmosphere and a lot of room (two floors).
It was very easy to understand from the menu which courses are vegan and which can be made vegan with a slight change. We were four and ordered the Maitrea starter which is basically a combination of all the starters. It was very delicious but the plating was horrible. Then we ordered the paella, the Kong pau and the burger. All were good except for the Kong pau (the rice was dry and the tofu was bland). Do not order the homemade ice tea, it's flavorless. For dessert we ordered a chocolate cake, an apple strudel and this blueberry caramel cake. The best was the chocolate cake, the apple strudel wasn't that good and the blueberry caramel dessert was nice but not amazing. Also, I ordered this chocolate vanilla tea which was great, plus it was served in this huge cup which was very fun :)
The service was excellent and it was really cheap (about 1,400Cz including drinks and tip).
Note that the kitchen closes at 22.00 although it says in their website the restaurant is open till 23.30.
Also, it is really difficult to contact Maitrea. It took them two days to reply to the email and Facebook message we sent. Also they didn't answer when we called the restaurant from a Czech Guy's phone, and it wasn't possible to make a reservation on their website.

Pros: Large variety of vegan dishes, Good service, Atmosphere

Cons: Hard to contact

Pros: Vin, Houmous, Deco

Cons: Pas assez de plat 100% vegan

Outstanding!

The food here is amazing. We had the udon noodles and the goulash. Both were fantastic. It's a very popular place and so reservations are highly recommended.

Excellent!!

I just ate there yesterday and I loved it!! I had a goulash that was just amazingly delicious and the raw cheesecake was really good! Portions were big and food wasn't expensive. The menu has symbols for items that are vegan, gluten free, or that can be substituted for gluten free options. Service is good, staff are friendly and nice, and the place looks really cute - the decor and atmosphere are great!
I would definitely recommend going there if you're in Prague!

Very recommendable when in Prague! :)

I went to Maitrea with 2 friends in the evening and although the restaurant was very filled up, they politely found a place for us. They have a huge selection of meals (among others also authentical czech meals).
We had the goulash, cheese cake, nougat dessert, poppyseed strudel, pear-apple-drink and the green superfood-strawberry drink. Everything was very delicious and we almost didn't have to wait at all.
The staff was very friendly and the restaurant has a very cozy atmosphere. Very recommendable!! :)

Pros: Delicious food (local meals), fast service, Friendly staff, easy to find (city center), Fair price, cozy atmosphere

Czech food!

I was only in Prague for a day, and desperately wanted to try the local cuisine. This was the only place I found, and it was exactly what I was looking for.

Unfortunately I came in at a busy time, so there was no space to seat me. I got my meal for take-away along with some great saffron tea. I would return.

Pros: Great local cuisine

Cons: Not enough seating , Not all vegan

Great food, ideal for lunch.

Great place to grab a quick but decent lunch. It's right in the center and it has a lot of options. Recommended. Similar menu as its sister resto Clear Head, but some differences.

Downtown hotspot

This is one of my favourite restaurants in Prague. The atmosphere fits almost all occasions, whether you are hungry after a touristy walk through the city or having a fancy dinner date. Many items on the menu are vegan or can be veganised and they have a nice blend of Czech and international cuisine. The food is great and very tasty, my favourites being the vegan cream of split pea soup, the burger and the goulash. Do make a reservation if you want to be sure to get a table right away.

Pros: Excellent atmosphere, great food, child-friendly

Cons: Can be crowded

We tried some vegan noodles with vegetables and fake meat. The noodles were tasty.
They had an interesting choice of teas. We tried the safran tea which was really good.

Accidental find

I found this restaurant accidentally after visiting the Jewish Quarter, and am I glad that I did!

Extremely friendly and inviting staff - very clean and relaxing environment.

Lots of menu options, made even bigger by the fact you can adapt some of the meals to GF or vegan.

Fair prices for what you are receiving. (My meal came to 500CZK, or the equivalent of £12 with a tip,
for two courses, one side dish and a drink)

Only negative is it felt a bit rushed due to all the tables being booked for their evening service (from 7pm). I guess this does show how popular the restaurant is!

Pros: friendly staff , extensive menu choice , calm and relaxing environment

Cons: fully booked in the evening meant rushed early din

Bland food, stale dessert, terrible service

I was really excited to try Maitrea after a friend recommended it, but I was completely disappointed. I had the goulash. It was bland and had only three tiny pieces of mock meat in it. They couldn't make the dumplings that were supposed to come with it vegan, so the only option is plain potatoes. I also tried the raw apple streudel for desert and it tasted completely stale, like it had been sitting in a refrigerator for days. The service was also terrible. The waitresses were basically ignoring everyone and when I could finally ask for something, they would forget to bring it. Would never go back to this place.

Cons: stale food, bad service

very busy but great foos!

The staff weren't so friendly, when we said we didn't have a reservation they at first just said to leave...but after us asking a few times to be put on a wait list they let us sit at a table that had an hour until it was reserved. So we felt pretty rushed.

Menu was international and varied, and cheap! The tempeh bruschetta tapa wasn't amazing but the burrito was delicious! Atmosphere was very "zen" and relaxing, minus us only having an hour to get out. Food was very fast. Would recommend!

Pros: price, variety, food

Cons: unfriendly staff, needed reservation, bruschetta

Absolutely beautiful!

Oh goodness! As a traveller who has been to all the vegan restaurants and cafes i can find in every different city i stumble upon, Maitrea rates so HIGHLY! Definitely up there with the best. The food is amazing, cooked with beautiful ingredients, lovely flavour, fresh..The atmosphere is just as wonderful, lovely ambience, i could have spent all day there lounging.
We took our meat-eating father and he was very impressed! I am not a person at all to exclaim "it's so good, it doesn't even taste vegan!" Because all the best food is, but to a can-be-critical meat-eater this is a place you will enjoy for sure! Our dad enjoyed the Tex Mex very much, whilst my vegan sister and I loved the raw desserts (choc cheesecake) and Thai curry. Honestly, all of the meals looked amazing and I'm sure taste incredible.
Please visit Maitrea and see the wonders for yourself!

Pros: Beautiful ambience, AMAZING food, SO well priced!

Cons: Cash only

Fantastic food!

We went there once in May 2015. The place has zen-like atmosfere and nice staff. First we tried guacamole with nachos and soup of the day which was a dill/mushroom clear soup. It was very tasty but wait for the mains! We had great rice, mushroom and seitan in peanut sauce (Kung Pao) which was fantastic (very light too not at all oily) but a true revelation was "shrimp" thai green curry! if you ever tasted seafood you must try that dish, and you will be fooled to perfection as I was ;-) Curry was perfectly spiced too, and was rich from coconut milk. Then we moved to desserts and went for raw cashew cheesecake with strawberry sauce, which we paired with soy cappucinos…. Will we back when again in Prague and suggest to all (omnivores too): go there and try their vegan dishes you won't be dissapointed at least not with those I had described above :-)

Pros: excellent food, nice vibe

Cons: none

A little fancy but not expensive, all vegetarian and some vegan. Attentive staff and extensive wine menu.
A huge food menu with many different types of veg food, all very tasty.
Medium portion sizes.

Pros: Many choices of great food , Clear menu (marking vegan, containing eggs/onion, , Nice staff and well-run

Cons: A bit fancy, if that's not your thing

My favourite veggie restaurant in Prague

Due to its location right in the city centre and a wide selection of vegetarian and few vegan options, I'd recommend booking a table beforehand. This can be done via phone or an online system. The interior of the restaurant is intriguing, the staff is friendly. As already mentioned, all of the meals are vegetarian, few are vegan, the cuisine is international - you can choose burger, paella, udon noodles.. One of the main dishes is also suitable for vitarians, being raw, and you shouldn't miss the raw cake, even if you're not a vitarian. I've always had a good experience in Maitrea so I like keeping coming back.

Pros: Excellent food, Nice vibe, Vegetarian, vegan, raw food

Cons: Tends to be overcrowded

Although vegetarian, it is my fav vegan restaurant

If you are searching the best restaurant around Old Town Square, do not forget to make a reservation in Maitrea. Reservations are highly recommended in dinner times as this restaurant is quite popular so be sure you get your table. Reservations are possible to be done also through online reservation system. The interior and atmosphere are very lovely. You feel comfortable right after you enter the restaurant. Ground floor may seem a bit austere but the real paradise and oasis you find downstairs. The restaurant is made in feng shui style with the statues of buddhas, fountains and other cosy decorations. I have been to this restaurant probably 10 times. The menu do not change very often so lately I rather prefer to go to different restaurants as I already tried all vegan meals in the menu. Food was always tasty and reasonable priced. I have never been displeased here. The staff is good but it can happen that you get a waiter who is new there so the ordering might be a bit chaotic but in general I can say they do a good job there and it is a high chance you'll be satisfied. With 2 starters, 2 main dishes, bottle of water and wines you may expect the price around 700CZK which is a nice price for a restaurant in a heart of Prague. Can't wait to be back again!

Pros: Location, Online reservation system, Tasty food+ good service

Cons: Can be full

Gorgeous

This place is like a little oasis in the middle of Prague. After days of struggling to find good vegan food in Prague (possibly due to my lack of map reading skills) eating here I felt so happy and restored.

It is such good value for money, the food tasted so fresh and vibrant, and the staff were really nice.

Will definitely go if I'm in Prague again (possibly every night).

Make sure to book ahead though because we were turned away the first time we turned up as it was the weekend and they were fully booked.

Pros: lovely food, great juices and smoothies , very fairly priced

Disappointed about the service

It's more than a week ago that we were there but here our experiences. When we came in there were a few free tables downstairs but the service told us that the only free table was one where you nearly sit on the floor. We needed some time to look in the menu and then we ordered the starters and said that we now look for the main dishes. Because nobody came to the free tables we asked to go to a normal table for eating which was no problem. Then came our starters and one of them was not what we ordered although the waitress repeated it when we ordered. We didn't say something because few minutes before we complained that our white wine was really really warm and she just put the bottle in a cooler with ice. Then we wanted to order our main dishes and her colleague told us that the kitchen closed two minutes before. We were surprised because we didn't know and nobody told us. He went back to the kitchen to talk with the cook and than told us two dishes in the menu which he can make. But they weren't vegan. We were hungry and sat there with our bottle of warm white wine and were a bit disappointed. After he went to the kitchen a second time he told us that the cook now will make the food we ordered. We were happy then to get something and the food was good but all the complications made the evening a little tiresome.

Pros: nice atmosphere

Cons: bad service
