Chaotic atmosphere, expensive - Edit
I wish they would understand that noise insulation is not their enemy. The atmosphere is chaotic! I went twice and left dizzy from all the buzz. The food is OK but I think it needs to be better if you serve those tiny portions and charge that price. There's great potential in this venue and I would see why people would go once, but for me, I've tried enough.

So, came again. Was very busy on an early Thursday evening. Had cauliflower wings and a special spritz. Very good. Guacomoly and tortilla chips as a greeting from the kitchen.

When we booked a table at Madre we didn't really know what we were booking. We'd had it in our heads that it would be the standard Mexican fare of burritos etc. All we knew is that we really wanted to try out a fully vegan Mexican restaurant.
Read moreIf you're looking for burritos you'll be disappointed, BUT, the food was great. It's more Mexican fine dining, and it was fantastic. Lots of great flavours and dish options.
It is quite pricey and don't expect big portions, but if you want to try a whole new world of Mexican food this is definitely worth a visit.
The only thing we didn't like was that it was VERY loud. So much so that my other half struggled to hear me and we ended up sitting like we were on a bad date with nothing to say. It was a Saturday night when we visited and it was full, which won't have helped, but the volume level did kill the mood for us.
They also had 3D-printed pork on the menu, which we weren't sure how we felt about. Considering it's a vegan/plant-based restaurant we felt slightly uncomfortable with meat being on the menu, even if it is cultured.
Pros: Mexican food as you've never experienced
Cons: Too loud., Cultured meat on the menu.

This is the first place I've had good Mexican food in most of Europe! The tacos and starters are real standouts. They make the Guacamole fresh right in front of you and ask what you want in it. Excellent!

Very creative menu, good vibes, good flavours. We had the guac, pulled 'pork' tacos, cauliflower wigs and white chocolate ice cream with some type of soft cakd as dessert. Yummmm! Oh and the restaurant can have quite a loud acoustic so talking in big groups may be a bit challenging.

Read moreI went with a couple of friends; some vegetarian, some omni and everyone was enthusiastic about the food. We had nacho’s and cauliflower bites to share and then we all ordered one big plate. They didn’t come at the same time, but they told us about this in advance as they normally do shared dining only.
The cauliflower bites were amazing and the chipotle sauce was mind blowing.
We did find the waiting staff to be somewhat slow and inattentive (they forgot one entire round of drinks, then one of us ordered a different cocktail than they got, but the staff run away before we could say something about it and all the food just took quite some time to arrive) except for an older lady, who helped us in the end, she was very decisive.
The only thing keeping me from visiting more often is the price because good lord they sure know what they’re asking…

They know how it's done! The food was amazing, we had the whole menu with multiple courses. Creative combinations, beautifully arranged, wonderful seasonings. We didn't have to wait long either. The time in between was estimated perfectly. The staff was super friendly and explained every dish, asked if it was good and if we needed something. The place is cozy and ambient. Prices were so cheap for the multi course menu. If you order separately and multiple drinks it might get a little pricier.

While the 3D printed pork (and the tacos in general) were very good, the cheese they used tasted like Daiya, and that pulled me from the experience a bit.
Service was pretty slow despite being only one of the two tables there and the portions could have been bigger, but overall very good.

Tonight was a memorable dinner in Amsterdam at Madre. The place is very cozy and staff very welcoming, entertaining. We didn’t pick the chef selection but went for picking several items on the menu (total 172€ for 2, 5 main dishes, shared, plus 2 deserts and a bottle of wine). This was expensive but as seen on previous reviews, it is about pleasing your mouth with tasty and creative food. Verdict: WORTH IT!!!

We had the Oystermushroom tacos and the „pork“ tacos and were absolutely stunned! The food was awesome, the staff was super friendly and made you feel seen all the time. We also chose the Sikil Pak as a starter, which was a bit spicy. All in all we had a good amount of food which was absolutely worth its money. The complimentary margaritas were a nice side feature. Would defintely come back! 😍
