We ate food with more flavour in small coffee shops scattered through the area (and no, it wasn’t because they had anything funky in the food there), the presentation of the food is so beautiful but just really falls short on flavour. The biggest standout was in fact, not the tacos - but the side of pumpkin dip with tortilla chip. Had a great kick to it and tons of delicious pumpkin flavour.
They’re working with some great ingredients there, but I really feel a lot of care for the food can get lost trying to serve so many customers at the same time in such a large seated venue.

At first we felt a little bit misplaced as we saw a huge restaurant and fully crowned (not usual in a vegan restaurant, a shame) and then we saw that there was no sign anywhere on the menu that explicitly said 'vegan'.

I ordered a full Madre experience and was totally blown away - the soury green beans, salad with a sweet cream, the artichoke tacos were all surprisingly well composed (I don't like artichoke) and made for a great cross-section through the cuisine offered by Madre. All this was crowned with the dessert that was seeping out with flavors and scents of fresh fruits and delicious cinnamon cake.

Madre was a highlight of my last visit to Amsterdam. I can't say enough good things about everything I tried. Each dish was well prepared and had a special twist to keep things interesting, from the Asian-Mexican green beans to the juicy quesatacos. The restaurant itself has an energetic and friendly atmosphere that makes the experience feel a little special without being fussy. I'll be back.

The food is good but not exceptionally so. Fusion kitchen with diverse ingredients, but the staff or general management isn't all that great we had to wait for a long time between ordering. This was by far the most expensive dinner (60 eur per person for three shared entrees, one main and a dessert per person).

Really beautiful space with outdoor seating and a warmly lit bar are when you enter. There is a large dining room in back with an open kitchen. We didn’t have reservations so we were seated in the bar. We shared four dishes. The Guacamole was made to order and chips are homemade. The Tomato Apache Tostadas were amazing; such deep flavor! The Chipotle mole Cauliflower was crisp outside and soft inside with the most delicious sauce! The real surprise was the Braised Butter Beans- such a rich broth, we wanted to eat it like soup! I also had the house beer, Madre Mexican Blond that paired well with the food. Just an all around great meal, with wonderful atmosphere and super staff.

The food was great, some kind of Mexican fusion dishes (not your very typical Mexican ingredients) which was interesting to try.
Read moreThe problem I had with Madre, it's that I found it very loud. Which kind of spoiled the dinner experience for me.
So I'd recommend asking for the quietest table, farthest from anyone else if you are sensitive to that.
Another thing, the service was a hit and miss, first they brought us the dessert before the dishes, and then it took forever to get the dessert (easily 30 minutes after the last dish was taken from the table). It seems they forgot about it.
All-in-all, good and interesting food; but everything else not so much.

I wish they would understand that noise insulation is not their enemy. The atmosphere is chaotic! I went twice and left dizzy from all the buzz. The food is OK but I think it needs to be better if you serve those tiny portions and charge that price. There's great potential in this venue and I would see why people would go once, but for me, I've tried enough.

When we booked a table at Madre we didn't really know what we were booking. We'd had it in our heads that it would be the standard Mexican fare of burritos etc. All we knew is that we really wanted to try out a fully vegan Mexican restaurant.
Read moreIf you're looking for burritos you'll be disappointed, BUT, the food was great. It's more Mexican fine dining, and it was fantastic. Lots of great flavours and dish options.
It is quite pricey and don't expect big portions, but if you want to try a whole new world of Mexican food this is definitely worth a visit.
The only thing we didn't like was that it was VERY loud. So much so that my other half struggled to hear me and we ended up sitting like we were on a bad date with nothing to say. It was a Saturday night when we visited and it was full, which won't have helped, but the volume level did kill the mood for us.
They also had 3D-printed pork on the menu, which we weren't sure how we felt about. Considering it's a vegan/plant-based restaurant we felt slightly uncomfortable with meat being on the menu, even if it is cultured.
Pros: Mexican food as you've never experienced
Cons: Too loud., Cultured meat on the menu.

This is a nice and large restaurant with friendly staff and good music, but pricey (as previous reviewers mentioned). The food was tasty, but the portions were quite small for the price you pay. We tried several dishes and cocktails. Check my pics for reviews per item.
