only tried take-away

I tried the take away counter dim sum. Some of it was absolutely wonderful, others were so-so. I would definitely go back and try the buffet during peak hours, though. the dim sum was a fair price. Really convenient to the MTR.

Pros: cheap, good food, friendly staff

Love coming back to Light Vegetarian Restaurant to try new dishes

I’ve been going to Light Vegetarian Restaurant ever since I was a kid. The restaurant is very conveniently located right next to Jordan station Exit B.

I always like to go in a bigger group to try more dishes. They offer vegan and Jain options. I personally highly recommend their vegetarian shark fin soup, Tom Yum hotpot, Tofu BBQ satay, fried noodles curry style and the two sauce rice dish (tomato & white sauce).

Dim sum is nice. You can take away or order it while dining in the restaurant. But it does get sold out fast. Desserts also get sold out quickly.

You can tell the staff if you have any dietary restrictions and they will guide you accordingly.

Average price for a dinner meal usually comes to about 100 to 150 HKD per person. Generous portions and excellent value for money. It can get busy so better make a reservation.

I will definitely be coming back to Light Vegetarian Restaurant to try new dishes.

Pros: Excellent variety, Delicious food, Convenient location

Delicious local food!

Very good cantonese food, mostly vegan! Came here for dinner, it was quite busy and there were a lot of locals which is a good sign!
Tried Hotpot, Mapo Tofu and Dim Sums- everything was amazing!

Ok restaurant

Lunch time it is not a buffet. The yum cha (dim sim) dishes were relatively expensive. You could get better value elsewhere. The ginger mushroom steamed buns were shocking. Looking at other tables by the locals, it seemed the dim sims were not the popular food.

Anyway the wait staff were friendly. Note the 10% service charge.

A very strange experience

I actually gave them 1-star but Happy Cow automatically adds a star when 100% vegetarian or vegan. I ran the Hong Kong Marathon this morning and I was starving. I actually walked past a number of other vegetarian restaurants on my 20 minute walk from my hotel, choosing this place based on the reviews. I walked in followed by a family of 4. I told the woman just me and she immediately diverted her attention to the family behind me, sending them upstairs for lunch. First she says “no”, though her English was basically non-existent. I asked “why” and she said come back at 4:00 (2.5 hours later). Again I asked why - there were plenty of seats. She then said, “Pay me” so I thought perhaps they are cash only so I showed them my cash. She still wouldn’t seat me and was being very unpleasant. A customer came in and intervened. She spoke with the woman and said to me, “You know this place is vegetarian.” I said yes and showed them my Happy Cow app. The customer asked what I wanted and I said lunch. She said, “Oh, she misunderstood you,” spoke to the hostess and I was shown to a dirty table on the side which appears to be where staff eats. At this point, I had enough and left. It’s a restaurant at lunch, what could be the misunderstanding? I ended up across the street at Three Virtues where I had a very delicious meal.

Stroppy lady

I have always wanted to try the veg dimsums here but I get here late when everything is sold out.

Managed to pass by when lots of the dimsums were still here and I was intending to get one of each.

As I was going to 5 different dimsums, I ordered two first in case it was too fast for her but she just asked me for the money right away when I hadn't finished ordering.

Everything was stuffed in the bag and a box costs $2 which I wouldn't mind paying if I was offered the box option.

To be honest, they all tasted really similar.

Practically everything had radish and same ingredients except the mock charsiu buns and charsiu steamed bun.

The steamed charsiu bun was too dry for my liking.

Not impressed

As a dim sum lover, this place disappointed me. The BBQ veggie meat bun was bland. Also took 25 minutes to prepare the food during off peak hours. Wouldn’t go back😒

Amazing menu and cheap buffet!

While staying in Hong Kong the Light Vegetarian Restaurant became one of favourite spots to eat! It is close to the MTR and is easy to find! Their lunch buffet is cheap with a whole range of delicious selections. The dinner buffet is slightly more costly and includes a salad bar but a bit less hot food than the lunch buffet, but comes with a hot pot included in the price. Their menu is extensive and has tasty mock meats and great options! They told us they do not use egg or milk for most things so most, almost all, of their food is vegan. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone staying in Hong Kong!

Pros: delicious food, plenty of vegan options, close to MTR

Delicious dim sum

I visited on Saturday night, solo. They took me upstairs and I was treated to the standard pot of hot tea immediately. I ordered the bbq pork and shu mai, both delicious! Would visit again!

Pros: all vegetarian, large seating areas

Let there be Light!

Directions are good, fairly easy to find. we are arrive to an English speaker and work given an English menu after being whisked to a table. They are set up for a buffet but there is no buffet today for whatever reason. It is 1215 on a Saturday. We first ordered two items from the dim sum and some rice. All three dishes were steaming hot and fresh tasting. The Shao My was VERY tasty. The waitstaff doesn’t seem to be very happy to be working and it was a chore to get the menu back. We found out that the English level is actually more than we thought. The mixed appetizer came out in 4 seconds flat. We have no idea if it was supposed to be but it was all cold. Good, but cold. An interesting overall experience.

I have been here 3 times and it's good every time. The buffet is at an amazing price. Every time we came I get to know the servers and they are very nice people. Note: the lunch buffet ends at 2pm not 3pm.

Pros: food, price, servers

amazing buffet

If you wanna try every traditional Chinese dish at once, this is your place. The buffet has a lot of options to choose from and most of them are delicious (I’m not used to some of the flavours, but it’s just me... my non vegan sister loved them all!). The staff is really reallyyyyy lovely. Tags with the names of the dishes and if they’re vegan or not could be really useful.

Great for staving off the hungries

Light vegetarian offer two options - a downstairs buffet or a la carte restaurant upstairs. We were looking for a good feed so we chose the buffet and ordered tea with our meal. The buffet is excellent with constantly changing dishes - soups, juk (congee), tofu, vegetable, mock meat, mushroom bases, sushi and salads. Being a buffet you can try and return for seconds or sample a bit of everything. The food was fresh, tasty and filling. Desert was also provided (biscuits, pancakes or waffles with peanut butter and/or sweetened condensed milk). The decor was fairly average and the staff struggled with English. I wouldn't go for a special night out or to impress someone, but at HK$283 for two with tea it is an excellent value vegetarian option

Pros: Good value, Excellent variety of changing dishes, Buffet option for the hungries

Cons: Staff struggle with English, Average decor - nothing special, Not sure how well it caters to vegans

Tasty, casual, local buffet

I arrived at about 10 PM on a Saturday night (about 30 mins before last orders), solo, and was assisted by a helpful and cheery waitress who suggested the buffet, which I highly recommend. It is extensive - soup, congee, many veg dishes with and without mock meats, salad, dessert, etc. - and tasty. Many large groups of locals at the round tables, including families, and few expats.

I'd like to return with a group and order off the menu, as many of the dishes at other tables appeared to be quite interesting.

The buffet is HK$72.6 (less than US$10) with service charge.

A definite go to Restaurant

We went to this restaurant in 2015 and we were very pleasantly surprised. Not being a big meat eater and unsure of the food that was available in Hong Kong our family loved the atmosphere and the friendly staff who were very accommodating to us English speaking folk. Food was absolutely amazing. Fresh, lots of variety and friendly staff.

Pros: Good Value, Friendly Staff, Excellent variety

the buffet option

The restaurant was convenient located and easy to find.
Understanding the differences between the buffet option (even for dinner) vs. ordering dishes - not so much. We decided to go with the former and got one of them cook-it-yourself sets on the table. The staff in their effort to help with it quickly pushed in faux meat, which I personally dislike. I rather had more dim sum than fake bacon.
The rest of the items were OK. Nothing really extraordinary to write about.
The place is somewhat run down, but OK for the price they ask.

Pros: location, buffet option

Cons: too many faux meat options
