Made from scratch Goodness - Edit
There was a wonderful variety of items to choose from, it was difficult to decide. We would have gotten the jalapeño fries and cauliflower tacos but their main frier wasn’t working so we got the chorizo tacos, coconut curry and sweet potato Ruben which came with crispy homemade fries (they have a small frier that was working). We don’t enjoy vegan cheese that is made using Science so we opted for the cashew queso which was absolutely delicious. The tacos were our favorite item. The texture and taste were a solid 10 out of ten. Which made me miss trying the cauliflower tacos even more.
Read moreThe Ruben was our 2nd favorite. I usually have tempeh meat on a Ruben so I couldn’t imagine how they could make sweet potato taste “meaty” but they did. It was so delicious, I will be looking up how to make that “sweet potato meat” at home.
The Thai Panang Curry was the only disappointment. It was fresh tasting and the tofu was fried to crispy perfection. It just needed more sauce.
I got the Blackberry Ginger Mint mocktail. It was just the right amount of sour and was a beautiful presentation. Our only regret was not leaving room for dessert. If we lived in Asheville we would be regulars at this establishment.
Our server was also Excellent! She was attentive without being intrusive. She pre-bussed the table and refilled our water glasses and asked if we needed another round and brought us our food perfectly timed!
We went back the next day and had the Tostada Enchilada salad (it’s the choriso taco grown up), the Supreme pizza with no cheese (nice crispy crust and a good amount of sauce), the Amaretto Cherry Cheesecake (absolutely worth going back just for that!) the peanut butter cookie (the only disappointment) and the Lime Aid (perfecly balanced and not too sweet). But I preferred the one yesterday. Another wonderful server. Love this place!

Good Enough For The South - Edit
Laughing Seed has great service, it's clean and beautiful inside. The menu seems to play it safe. As many food spots in Asheville, and maybe it is due to the Southern Palate; Laughing Seed doesn't really venture out of the basic offerings. When they do, it seems to dive only into limited Asian or Indian themes and the variety of vegan food goes so much further. The salads are huge, but something is missing at Laughing Seed. The "wow", clean, yum feeling that I get when I eat a good vegan meal out, its just not there. It's a great place to take non-vegans, meat eaters, etc and the plates are full. Just dont expect to be blown away.
Read morePros: clean, salads, all sauces are vegan
Cons: lack of taste on some dishes, not fully vegan, surcharges for tofu and avocado are way too high

Marvelous! - Edit
This place exceeded my expectations! The inside decor and plants provide a great atmosphere. The whole menu could be made vegan (substituting cheese), and the food was amazing. We shared southwest fries and two tacos, leaving room for dessert.the desserts were huge, so we were pretty full, and glad we didn't order more for the main meal.

Fantastic Vegan & Gluten Free Options - Edit
We were back in town for a show and needed to check this place out again to see how they still fared. Just as awesome as before!
Read moreOur server, Brenton, was exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly. The menu is almost entirely vegan and has a ton of gluten free and nut free options.
We opted to share the Brussels Sprouts as an appetizer, the Reuben with the sweet potato "pastrami" and the Pineapple "Bacon" Tacos. All of them were hearty portions and the flavor profiles were phenomenal.

Lovely upscale option - Edit
I was expecting a casual place but pleasantly surprised by the ambiance here. Cocktails were great as was the crostini and lions mane mushroom. My boyfriend’s bibimbap was a little too spicy (the server warned us and we didn’t listen) so be forewarned if you don’t like spicy things. Overall excellent experience!

A close second to Plant - Edit
Overshadowed by Plant, in any other Southeast city, Laughing Seed would be its top vegetarian restaurant. When craving vegan or vegetarian, I want what I can't have elsewhere: dynamic textures, crunch, flavors and unique pairings not typically associated with stereotypical "rabbit food" fare. Laughing Seed offers that in spades with hefty portions of filling, protein-rich food and massive desserts. I still think about their Reuben years later, and you can't go wrong with their tacos.

Great outdoor seating, decent vegan gf dishes - Edit
We loved the seating outside. The food unfortunately took for ever to come out and ended up being cold, too salty, or bland. We suspect that we just hit a bad day as the menu looked good and other reviews sounded great. The server was awesome and tried her best to make up for the kitchen’s shortcomings.

Great service and food - Edit
Fantastic selection of vegan items, nice ambience and great service. The Reuben was delicious - definitely our favorite. Also we so appreciated that they used reusable dishes (like restaurants used to before the insane waste we see now.). Even metal ramekins. Thank you for being good stewards of our only planet.

I have to agree with the crowd. We had. A delightful lunch here. I enjoyed the Ruben sandwich with the cheese substitute. The “meat” was made with sweet potato, perfectly cooked with a little crunch! I added the side salad and house dressing, yummm

So yummy! Had a hard time choosing - Edit
This cafe was so good we got it twice during our stay! We tried a lot of the dishes between our visits and honestly you can go wrong with anything on the menu! My favorite was the tostada ensalada. We had the southwest fries, crispy brussels, lotus grain bowl, rueben (veganized), Buffalo cauliflower tacos, and risotto. We also had the cake and cheesecake for dessert. It was all so good! You must visit if you are in the area!

Delicious - Edit
My husband and I visited Asheville recently and both picked this as our favorite vegan food in the area. I got the Bistro Burger and he got the Banh Mi. Both were flavorful, perfect portion sizes for the price, and well made. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed the atmosphere as well. A must visit in the area!

An amazing dining experience - Edit
My sister and I stopped here on our one night driving through Asheville. So happy we caught Laughing Seed before they closed! This was such a great experience all around - there was a street performer playing chill music across the sidewalk, our server was AMAZING (Travis? We feel bad we don’t remember his name), the patio was cozy and cute, and - of course - the food was great! We had the crispy brussels and jalapeño fries to start at our server’s recommendation, then I had the taco salad-ish bowl and my sister had the risotto. We also had great local (brewery was only two streets over!). Even being vegan with a cashew allergy, there was a ton for me to eat (all their vegan cheeze is cashew based, but our server was an expert on ingredients and swaps). Highly recommend.

Flavorful and fast - Edit
Stopped here on a road trip and was impressed with how quickly everything came out while still being delicious and beautiful. Service was great. No complaints! Glad we found this little place to stop on our way. Recommend the nearby parking garage. The elevator brings you out right at their front door.
