Delicious and easy to understand

Found this restaurant while in Harajuku thanks to Happy Cow. Easy to understand menu and the ramen came out quickly. Super delicious! It absolutely hit the spot on a cold day and was fresh yet hearty. I will definitely be returning when I visit Tokyo again.

If you're in Harajuku, VISIT here!

Ordered: Only one vegan option, and so ordered the vegan ramen. Got a bowl of ramen with a soy-based stock, sproingy noodles, beansprouts, menma (bamboo shoots), nori, green onions, pieces of grilled soy meat, and some sprigs of saffron. The noodles are not vegan by default though, be sure that you order the vegan ones!

This place is easy to find. It’s on the second floor of the building with the Family Mart in it close to the JR Harajuku station. It was BUSY when we came at around about 2 and we needed to wait for about 10 minutes. That was outside the lunch rush hour so I can’t imagine what this place would be like at around about 12-1. Having said that, the line moved quickly and we didn’t have to stay too long in the claustrophobic waiting area! The wait was well worth it too because even though there was only one vegan option, it is SERIOUSLY GOOD. I also went to T’s Tantan and Afuri during my time in Tokyo and I have to say that this place had the tastiest vegan ramen. Jangara’s ramen is probably the least healthy of the three but ramen is generally not supposed to be healthy. I guess in terms of authenticity, Jangara wins. The two highlights of the dish were the strong full-bodied broth, and the grilled soy meat pieces. They were nice and smoky and definitely contributed a more well-rounded flavour to the ramen.

Best ramen

Clearly labeled. Reasonably priced. Doesn't try too hard to be healthy like some other vegan ramens. Can add extra noodles at start or during meal and staff always clarify that you want the vegan noodles. Went back an additional 3 times in the week because it was seriously that good. Would give 5 if happy cow let me.

Pros: Staff speak very good English, clearly labeled

Cons: Only 1 option

Fast and Furious Ramen

Cash only! Fast service and simple menu navigation options if your Japanese is terrible :) You may have to wait to be seated, but it's worth it.

Pros: Plenty of Vege options

Cons: It's always busy :)

Tasty and convenient ramen joint!

This restaurant gets 5 stars for location, extremely easy to find and so close to Harajuku station! It has the feeling of any other local ramen restaurant, with the plus of a vege option!! The staff were friendly and the ramen was quick to come out. It tastes how a standard ramen should, which is great! Provided lots of noodles, though could have done with a few more veges in the mix. Regardless, I left feeling full and satisfied!

Pros: Tasty vege ramen, Friendly quick service, Great location

Cons: A few more veges wouldn't hurt

Authentic vegan ramen

Delicious ramen, can choose from a range of seasoning (chilli, pepper, sesame, garlic, pickles) to customise it to your taste, a great place to visit with non-veggies.

Two floors, downstairs is mostly counter seating and upstairs has more of a restaurant feel.

Pros: Delicious ramen, Lots of seasoning options

Cons: Only one option

Very clearly labeled, really tasty. You get little soy slices of fake pork! So far, the best ramen I've had in Japan.

Only one option.

Best Ramen in Town.

Great place with a single vegan ramen option. Decent price, the staff are awesome, and by far the best ramen in town. I've tried over a dozen vegan ramen while cycle touring all over Japan, and this place is a winner. Also, you can order extra noodles to be dropped in your bowl if have excess broth after gobbling up the first batch. Perfect.

Pros: Delicious, cheap, great location.

Best vegan ramen in town

I tried all the vegan ramen I could find in Tokyo: At the famous T's Tantan, the lesser known Soranoiro Nippon and here. Kyushu Jangara has, by far, the best vegan ramen. The soup is flavorful, the noodles have excellent, slightly chewy consistency and with a bit of added spring onion and fried garlic (both identified as vegan by friendly staff), the dish is just perfect. As I was very hungry, I ordered an extra portion of noodles once I was halfway through my dish. The staff member immediately informed me in English that I was trying to order non-vegan noodles and changed my order to the vegan version instead. Excellent.

If you are vegetarian and are tempted to add a soft-boiled egg, note that these are usually marinated in dashi and thus, not vegetarian. I did not inquire about this though as I was very happy with the vegan ramen as-is.

I would give this place five stars if I could.

Pros: taste, helpful staff, authentic atmosphere

Cons: a bit crowded at busy times
