My absolute favourite place to eat in Bulgaria - Edit
I have been coming here from years, every time i get a chance to refuel when im visiting Sofia. Their buffet style is perfect for me as i like to try from almost every food available. They post week in advance their menu in their site which is great to know what day whats coming. They are also the only ones in BG that made seitan and tempe and most other restaurants get it from them. Their food is always good and nutritionally adequate.
Read morePeaceful and pleasant place and much more that just a restaurant for me.
They also have only 1 or 2 meals in the whole weekly menu that contain dairy and everything else is vegan. So most days everything is completely vegan or plant based.
Their staff is always top notch. I saw currently a guy that was very polite and super nice. I felt like he is a great human being although we didnt speak much. Highly recommended.
Pros: Variety of nutritionally adequate tasty food, Seitan and tempe. Ask, if you want to buy for home

Kring is the King! - Edit
Update April 2019
Read moreI see the description says that it is vegan except for cakes, but it's not correct. Frequently, some of the main dishes are also not vegan as they use cream for sauces and cheese. They specify this on the labels, but just keep in mind...
They have opened one more location in Feb 2019 and I can't understand why it is not on HappyCow yet. It is not in the central part, which will make less attractive to vegans on the road.

Besides I wrote a review of Soma Vital to be the best vegan restaurant in Sofia, for me it shares the first place with Kring. I just adore their dishes. They are the only producers of tempeh and seitan in Bulgaria for years and both are vastly represented on the menu. To some vegans that are not fans of meat substitutes I suppose seitan is not a thing to like. But I just love its texture and taste - I don't think of eat as meat, but of what it is - a product of its own. Seitan is great for doners as I understood in Berlin's Voner and I am thrilled to have such again.
As time passed by, the prices at Kring rose and currently it costs about 7-8 EUR to get a lunch there. It is a buffet with enough options to choose from. Well, if you are a 45 kg vegan girl on salads, 5 EUR will be all you need to overeat.
I always didn't understand the religious Sri Chinmoy cult atmosphere, including the music, but finally this is not a serious issue. I saw a comment describing it as a sect or something, but rest assured it isn't.

Tasty buffet in calming interior - Edit
My favourite was the carrot sushi and cold tofu salad (great together!). My least favorite was a chicken style seitan. The interior has a lot of daylight and calming pastel colors. This place is ideal if you don't like waiting for your food. The whole buffet was vegan (I don't know if all the pies were vegan). Water is free and the price for your food is by weight. You can also have take away.

Big disappointment - Edit
Big disappointment! I don't know what people like about it... maybe there's just not too much of a vegan food scene in Bulgaria and this seems good somehow? My first day in Bulgaria and people told me this country is cheap... just not when it comes to food I
Read moreguess. 1200 lev for a small portion, as you pay per weight, but they included the weight of the heavy plate (a meal about 3x as expensive as for example neighboring countries Romania and Serbia, which aren't less developed than Bulgaria). Rather unfair.
And what do you get for that? Not much. Food was absolutely terrible taste wise (never ate such a poorly made vegan pizza slice), and not even warm. Neither the pizza nor curry.
I regret coming here. Not recommended, at all.
Cons: Expensive for what it is, No one speaks any other language but Bulgarian, Bad food, already cold

High quality buffet - Edit
Oh man, so good!!
Read moreSelf service / pay by weight, and the bread is free. They also have complimentary water which was appreciated (annoying when places charge you for tap water). No alcohol served.
Dishes are clearly labelled (in English too), they were all vegan except for two which had dairy. I tried a couple of different salads, hummus, bread, olives, quinoa and rice dishes and THE most mouthwatering tofu curry. Every dish was super fresh and full of flavour.
I was looking forward to trying their housemade seitan, but on our visit the only seitan dish was a stroganoff that wasn't vegan, so that was a shame.
Our plates cost a pretty hefty 13-15lev each, but we hadn't eaten all day so we really loaded them up.
Pros: amazing flavours, clear labelling of dishes, the complimentary stuff (water & bread)
Cons: not 100% vegan, assocations with a kinda cult leader

Great varied buffet, serves different salads, delicious Bulgarian bean soup, homemade bread and home cooked meal such as baked potatoes, French beans, rice with vegetables, seitan stew etc. Gluten free options are well noted. All the dishes were vegan but one vegetarian dish. The staff was very kind and helpful. Cheap price.

So good food - Edit
If I had to say which place in Sofia has the most delicious vegan options, I would say Kring.
Read moreEverything I have ever eaten there, has tasted really good. Reaaally good.
There is a buffet if you want to sit and eat there, or you can also get some vegan wraps with seitan or tempeh to go.
The one negative is the price, but the quality kind of balances it out.
Pros: The good is good, guys, especially the seitan
Cons: Price

Delicious! - Edit
The food at Kring is absolutely delectable. I am in town working at nearby SoHo and I think this is going to be a new favorite lunch spot. The salad bar is fresh and there are several options for a main course. Only two of the hot dishes weren't vegan (sour cream I think) but everything else is. Take away or sit down. They also have a vegan wrap for take away.
