Disappointing - Edit
Wow - Persian mezze, I thought, when our niece invited us here. How can that not be good?
Read moreSadly, I was disappointed. My spiced cauliflower was undercooked and the Persian potatoes were overcooked. The gaymeh was OK but unremarkable, but the only dish to write home about was the artichoke dip. But you can't make a meal out of that. And there was nothing distinctly Persian about the spicing or the flavours in general.
Quite prominent on the menu was dirty fries. This reminded me of how Indian restaurants used to put omelette and chips on the menu, to cater for beered-up diners who'd been dragged out for a curry but didn't want any of "that foreign muck". Well, the foreigner the better in my book, but Koocha didn't live up to expectations.

Delicious food. - Edit
Lovely restaurant, nice staff and the mezze is the best I’ve had. The non vegan suggested we go back again so he could order the okra fries and kebab for the second time. We went back again a few days later. Will be back again next time I visit Bristol.

Excellent food despite some mishaps - Edit
We had a little bad luck with service and one of the food items, but the deliciousness of the food made up for it. The staff were sorry and immediately offered us a few free items -- they were short a staff member and unfortunately, we just copped some of the repercussions of that.
Read moreIt was great to finally have eaten at a fully-vegan Persian/Middle Eastern restaurant! The flavors did not disappoint and they put a new spin on classics such as kuku and kotlet. The cocktails are creative with their use of saffron and cardamom as are the desserts (the baklava is really delicious).

Always a good choice - Edit
I love Koocha and that it’s fully vegan. Both the brunch and dinner menus are really tasty, my favourite is the eggless kookoo and the za’atar flatbread. The loaded kebabs and fries are a LOT so would recommend sharing one with other mezze bits. Small restaurant that can get quite cramped (especially if you’re on the table in front of the storage cupboard). Service can be a bit hit and miss…

Smart but friendly place with interesting mezze - Edit
This was a smart-looking and evidently popular place but still welcoming to a scruffyish old pair like us, and the staff were charming. We quite often eat in Lebanese places and the "concept" was a bit similar but the way the food was prepared and spiced was interestingly different. We found that about six mezze dishes plus bread and a shared dessert made a satisfying meal for two. I liked my watermelon mocktail as well.

Oh. Wow. - Edit
This was incredible! We ordered 8 of the small plates, side of olives and bread, and the dirty chick’n fries between 4 of us. More than enough food. The spinach and artichoke dip was loved by all. I’m still enjoying the memories 2 days later as I write this

Good food near a busy road - Edit
The road is busy so sitting on the terrace is not that fun, but the food is good, so that's a plus. And that is, arguable for a restaurant, the most important thing.

Fabulous selection of vegan dishes but so LOUD - Edit
Not our first visit to Koocha so we know how popular they are and that you need to book a table in advance. Even on a Weds evening the place was RAMMED, upstairs and down. Tables are very close together (and we were a group of 3 seated at a table really only meant for 2, not great). The noise level inside Koocha was truly off the scale, not helped by a couple of large groups and the fact that the music was cranked up too. Even my party animal mid twenties daughter remarked on this too! Also I have noticed the noise when they were located at one of their previous locations.
Read moreHaving said all that, the staff were very welcoming, friendly and efficient, the selection of tasty vegan dishes is awesome and arrived quickly and the cocktails/mocktails are delicious. Will certainly return in future as I don’t know anywhere else in Bristol that comes close to matching Koocha for variety, quality and value for money. If you are sensitive to noise levels though, try and visit at a less busy time.
Pros: Variety of tasty dishes, Service, Drinks
Cons: Noise Level !!!, Cramped if busy

Flavourful Persian food - Edit
We got 4 mezze plates (veggie fritters, koopa, ghormeh sabzi & gaymeh), main of kofta tabrizi, side of bread, cheesecake for dessert and mocktails to share. The food was so flavourful and delicious and couldn’t suggest improvements there. I’ve not given it 5 stars due to the service- they weren’t covid safe (tables close together, no staff wore masks; in contrast to every other cafe/restaurant we visited in Bristol at the time) and they added a service charge to the bill automatically without there being any mention of this on the menu etc which I think is cheeky! #Veganuary

Amazing! - Edit
So much tasty choice, we loved every dish. Between two of us, we had the 4 mezze for £17 - vegan fish cakes; aubergine and split pea stew; spinach balls in a mint sauce and a refreshing salad. We also shared a seitan kebab (£10). For drinks, a rose hot chocolate - absolutely divine. Service was brilliant too! A must visit if visiting Bristol!

Cut Some Rug - Edit
Delicious Persian food in the quaint vegan friendly Montpelier area of Bristol (did they not win the French title once?) So many mezze dishes to choose from. We went for hummus, falafel, fish cakes, Persian potatoes (quite like Bombay potatoes but more fragrant), gheymeh Persian stew, fries and bread. Downstairs was far too bright so it was with such relief that we were taken upstairs where is was much darker and more relaxed. All that food and we didn’t even scratch the surface of the full menu.
