Exquisitely cooked food in a nice atmosphere - Edit
Find the restaurant by searching for 'Kissa Saeki' in Maps.
Read moreThe food is really good, nicely presented on wooden tablets. The meal set includes fermented brown rice, miso soup and different small vegetables.
The menu is about 90 percent vegan, except for a chicken option for the burger, eggs or chicken as topping for the salad and a traditional cheesecake. Everything else is plant based and as far as I could tell pretty delicious.
Pros: Basically fully vegan, Clearly labelled allergens, Very friendly staff
Cons: A tad pricy, though

So fresh & delicious - Edit
I would give 5 stars if I could.
Read moreWe were recommended this spot from a local vegan and we’re so happy we went! The tempeh burger and curry were both excellent. The food tastes SO FRESH which makes sense because they take care to use organic and local ingredients. It was some of the best tempeh I’ve ever had. And the rice with the curry was some of my favorite rice in Japan.
The vibe of the restaurant is really warm and welcoming. There’s plenty of room to dine with a group or solo. The food was prepared quickly and served warm. They also offer a shop of some eco friendly products, snacks, and organic bulk items including nuts, chocolate, vegan butter, laundry soap, tooth brushes, etc.
Most of the food is vegan, but they do serve some meat dishes. The menu is very clearly labeled and the staff understand vegan, gf, etc. vegan food is prepared separately from any animal products.
When we visited (on a Saturday) there were local organic veggies and other goods for sale in front of the restaurant by a very kind man. I’m not sure how common that is but if we had kitchen access we would have gotten the veggies—they looked like the freshest veggies I’ve seen in Japan!!
Highly recommend making a visit to this cafe. It’s hard to find vegan food in Japan, including in Hiroshima. This spot is well worth the trip!
Pros: Organic, Delicious and fresh food, Warm vibe
Cons: Serves some meat

Wonderful! - Edit
The menu is almost entirely vegan, which is great because it allows non vegan people to join and sample some vegan options if they wish. Staff are lovely and friendly. And the menu is good value for the price.

Great food near Peace Park - Edit
Multiple delicious vegetarian options! Got a lunch set with chickpea croquettes and the fried gluten (seitan). Also the black currant soda. All excellent. Friend got a lentil burger and was less impressed, though.

5-star restaurant with small dry food & book shop - Edit
Pitch-perfect lunch experience. I went for the set meal with tempeh as a main since I hadn't come across tempeh in Japanese restaurants for quite a while. I didn't regret my choice. The tempeh was of great quality with a subtle nutty taste that matched the boiled and pickled vegetables around it perfectly. The miso soup had a heartwarming umami flavour. The fermented brown rice was a great contrast to the bland rice I had to eat elsewhere so often while in Japan.
Read moreI really liked the relaxed and comfy atmosphere with calming music, too. It felt like a safe haven after I had done my obligatory A-bomb sightseeing which left lots of disturbing images in my mind.
The little section with dry food and books on sale was quite attractive, too. Veganism is not yet widespread in Japan and the option to grab a (Japanese-language) book about how to become vegetarian or vegan after a delicious lunch is great advocacy. That alone should be rewarded with a 5th star.
Pros: Menu largely vegan, Dry food and books available, Outstanding friendliness of staff

Excellent mostly vegan menu - Edit
You choose a main and there are some side dishes such as rice and pickles. We had the croquettes and the tempeh. Also a side of the crispy gluten. It was all delicious and we highly recommend. The chocolate cake dessert was also delectable, albeit a bit small (I begrudgingly shared with my 3 year old...).

Really enjoyed my lunch set with fried gluten cutlets. My husband got the vegan curry which was also nice. Good portions here too. Vegan options are clearly mentioned on the menu so it’s easy to order.

Many vegan options ( probably 70% vegan overall). In a time when a majority of vegan restaurants have closed throughout japan this one fortunately remains and is near many tourist areas. Yay@

Delicious Food! - Edit
Truly excellent food in a cute cafe setting! We stopped by for breakfast and had the vegan breakfast set and the tempeh burger. Everything was so delicious! The breakfast set included three slices of bread with hummus with pink peppercorns and a salad, a soy yogurt with brown sugar, and a cup of coffee or tea. The tempeh burger was perfectly cooked, and the sauce was delicious!
Read moreI had wanted to try their chickpea croquettes, but since they didn’t serve them before 11 am, we ended up coming back for lunch later in the day.
For lunch we had the chickpea croquette set meal (which included a salad, picked veggies, miso soup, and fermented rice) and the vegan curry and salad plus fried wheat gluten cutlet. It was a really satisfying meal!
They have very few non-vegan dishes, and menu states that they cook the vegan and non-vegan food separately. Given how the majority of their food is vegan, I think it will be very easy to make the restaurant fully vegan, so that we can all give it the five stars it truly deserves!

Relax and Sip - Edit
Eating breakfast in Kissasaeki feels like entering a chill wave lofi music video. It’s relaxed, peaceful, and the food is excellent. The menu is clearly labeled in English and Japanese with many vegan options to choose from. There are different things available for breakfast (8am-11am), lunch (11am on), and all day (8am on). For breakfast, we had their breakfast salad set, tempeh burger, and cookies. To drink we had earl grey tea and soy milk hot chocolate. Everything was lovely.

My favorite cafe - Edit
This is my favorite spot in Hiroshima (I’m a resident). Food is delicious, the staff are friendly, and the price is right. The seitan cuts are my main jam, but the lentil burger, tempeh, and curry are also great.
Read moreThis place has been in business for over 40 years. When the son took over, he went full-on with the vegan epicness. But it still has that classic kissaten (tradition Japanese cafe) vibe. Everything is sourced local, and you can buy organic and vegan goods on site too. Every Saturday a guy sets up out front with local organic produce.
This place is the bees knees.
Pros: Delicious food , Affordable, Friendly people and authentic atmosphere
Cons: Closed on Sundays

Great tasting fresh food - Edit
Ate few times here during my stay at Hiroshima as knew I would get a good meal. The vegan breakfast was nice and light to start day and the brown rice coffee that comes with it tasted really interesting (in best way). Their set lunches are super filling , I had the croquettes which were so tasty and could eat bowls of their miso rice alone it’s that tasty. Really friendly staff, they even gave me a booklet of local vegan/ veg restaurants to visit on my trip! Really good value for such fresh and big portioned meals.
