Great sushi experience - Edit
Very tasty sushi plates and fancy creations. Too bad only that all windows are obstructed. So there is no daylight or a view outside.

2 hours of waiting for the food - Edit
We were there for our anniversary, but the mood dropped after we waited for two hours for the food and our stomachs were growling. The restaurant was not very crowded. No apologies from the staff for the wait. The portion then was not very big and for that way too expensive. It was delicious, though, but since we were still hungry afterwards, we went to burger king for a vegan burger afterwards just to fill the stomach. That spoiled it all.

Completely vegan modern Japanese - Edit
I went here together with a friend on a Friday evening. The restaurant is located in a very busy and popular neighborhood with several restaurants and bars, so we had a few drinks before at the nearby Cocktailhouse, which definitely put is in a good mood.
Read moreThe restaurant itself is small and cozy, with a modern, dimly lit, black and white interior which fits the food very well. Everything on the menu is vegan, but beware of the fact the menu is pretty small. I would've personally appreciated a couple of more dishes to choose from.
I ordered set 2 (€22,50) which was a mix of different umakis and two tomato nigiris, which looked exceptionally similar to salmon! My friend ordered a main dish consisting of rice, a delicious, thick curry sauce and some kind of vegan Gyukatsu Motomura (deep fried meat) (17,50€). For drinks I had a Helles (5,20€) and she had an Eizbach cola (a local Munich soft-drink brand) (€4). Both the food and drinks arrived swiftly.
We both agreed that the curry dish was the best. The deep fried fake meat Gyukatsu Motomura combined with the curry sauce really stole the show. It is, however, perhaps not the most exciting dish, since it only contains deep fried fake meat, sauce and rice. My sushi set on the other hand had tons of variation. It was a good meal, but I've had better vegan sushi sets before. I think it lacked a bit of flavor. We had read some reviews saying that the portions are small but we both agreed that our portions were adequately large.
All in all I would say I am very pleased with my visit to Kansha. I'm deliberating between a four and a five star rating, but I think I have to settle for a four due to the fact that the sushi set could've been better, and that I think there could be more options in the menu. I'd love to come back one day!😄
4/5
UPDATE:
Went here a second time and had the Yakisoba Nudels 4/5 as main course and Tiramisu for dessert 5/5. They both tasted great and I am now increasing my rating to 5/5. I am really happy that this place exists!

Didn‘t live up to the hype.. at all. - Edit
The waiter was very nice and the house mocktail with ginger was awesome. BUT the food was bland and did not seem very authentic. Very cheap ingredients and small portions for a big price. Personally I wouldn‘t go back.

The best vegan sushi ever with the best service - Edit
We must have eaten here 30 times during our stay in Munich because the food and service were absolutely fantastic! I highly recommend getting the chefs special selection menus because you get to try so many fantastic dishes. The sushi was the best vegan sushi I have had anywhere in the world. The lovely lady who served us was so friendly and great with our little kids- she really went out of her way to be helpful and accommodating! Our favorite place to eat in Munich!

Nice but not great - Edit
Had the Vegan Katsu Curry (€17.50), Vegan cheesecake (€6.50), and green tea (€4.00). Staff were pleasant and service was very quick.
Read moreRather bland Katsu Curry with soggy overcooked rice and only 3 thin slices of aubergine. The aubergine itself was delicious but the curry sauce was soupy, thick, and had little flavour.
Dessert was very tasty, creamy and with a nice fresh berry taste, but a bit small for the cost.
Green tea had a pleasant fresh slightly smoky flavour and served in a fun small teapot with fresh leaves. It is rather small though and only filled one very small cup for the price.
Pros: All vegan, friendly staff, great dessert
Cons: Surprisingly bland food, low value for money

Didn't live up to the hype - Edit
Went here with a vegan friend cause we were both excited to try it out.
Read moreI love the idea of the changing menu according to the seasonally available products but it would be nice if it were up online in time cause my friend was very disappointed that she couldn't try an item as that wasn't on the new menu (which was not online yet).
The price was also a bit high for the portions you get (especially the dessert was not much) and it feels like you pay more for the looks of the food than for the food itself.
The food was good but not so good that I'll come back anytime soon.
Pros: Lovely interior, Seasonal products
Cons: Expensive , Small portions

Nice Japanese fusion. Small portions. - Edit
We just ordered and shared the two set meals to keep it simple. The food was Japanese fusion and tasted good. The hint of lemon in the miso soup and the use of miso paste in the carrot cake frosting were, among other things, interesting and worked well. If only there was more food... I felt like the quantity would be better balanced if they cut down the number of small plates in exchange for a main rice or noodle dish. As it stands, the price is not cheap for what you get and you may leave hungry. That said, I'd still recommend this place as vegan Japanese food is not easy to come by. They're doing a pretty good job and I commend them for their efforts.

Dinner with friends - Edit
We went there on a Thursday evening at the place was half full. We ordered some appetisers, miso soups and edamame. Tasty, nothing exceptional.
Read moreFor the main dishes we ordered the two sets they had, and some a la carte dishes. When everything came, it was looking very well. 5 stars for presentation. The taste was also very good. Our favourite dishes were: a la carte (kushiyaki) tofu dish and tempura futomaki. Also the chocolate mousse for dessert was perfect.
The food overall was very tasty, we left nothing in our plates and we definitely would recommend the place. It is not cheap, but it is worth the money, for their food quality and service it can't be cheap.
Pros: tasty, chocolate mousse

Really good - Edit
Very nice place, friendly and welcoming service.
Read moreVery well presented, authentic Japanese food. Taste, delicious.
Prices are fairly reasonable - at the high end of average - but well worth it for the quality of the offering and good service.
Wine selection could be better but hey-ho, this is Germany, where - for reasons unknown - they refuse to look very far for good wine!
Overall, highly recommend and certainly one of the best vegan options in Munich.
Pros: All vegan, Great service, High quality food
Cons: Wine selection needs improved

Stylish for a date, too expensive in case of hunger - Edit
As i love japanese food, me and my friend had to try this one very soon after opening. We sat outside in lively Schwabing, at it was summer but inside the restaurant is very stylish. There are two different menues offered, each one of us chose one of them.
Read moreThe menue was really impressive, almost 8 or 9 different tiny pieces of sushi or pickle. It was enough for me (girl) but not enough for my friend (big man), while at the same time at the pain threshold considering the price.
For the food, i'm almost ok with the expensive price. All the beautyful tiny pieces take a lot of work, all the little plates have to be arranged and cleaned up again... But what really annoyed me where the price for drinks. These are definitely too high and at the same time there are not many choices without alcohol.
We are living in munich and love japanese food, but we're not going to go there again soon, because it's just too expensive.
Pros: Japanese vegan food!, japanese, vegan
Cons: expensive, too few drinks without alcohol

Authentic taste - Edit
What food do you think of when thinking of Japan? Most likely it's sushi. And although it's true that sushi is very popular in Japan, it's pretty hard (if not impossible!) to find vegan sushi in Japan. However, while staying in Munich vegan sushi was the first thing the Happy Cow app advised.
Read moreKansha restaurant is a 2 or 3 minute walk to Munchener Freiheit station, in the cozy city centre. The restaurant itself doesn't mention the word "vegan" anywhere. Not on the building, not in the menu, not on the walls. Nowhere. The menu simply says "European style Japanese food, influenced by Buddhist kitchen". The menu is available in German and English, and the staff speaks
both German and English as well.
I ordered set menu number 1, which was absolutely delightful. In true Japanese style the ingredients aren't drowned in sauce or oil, but the real taste of the vegetables and mushrooms has been preserved. In true Japanese style even the presentation is spot on, with great attention to detail. The food is pure, light and very close to true Japanese taste. The set menu had a lot of variety in tastes, structure and nutrition. Tasty cauliflower tempura, energetic tofu and healthy vegetables. Excellent!
The set menu cost 23 euro's, which is a very fair price for the amount of food and the quality of the ingredients. The only reason not to give Kansha restaurant the full five stars was the long waiting time. Although the restaurant was only 1/3rd full, it took about 20 minutes for the food to be prepared and that's just too long.
Pros: great taste, healthy food, nice atmosphere
Cons: long wait until the food arrives

Good concept but.. - Edit
This new restaurant was high on our got to list in Munich. It serves Traditional Budhist Temple vegan food. My partner and I have travelled and lived in Japan so we know traditional Budhist food.
Read moreIt is located in a really attractive location. We ordered the avocado eggplant cake which we liked but the portion is so small for that price. Then we tried the tasting menu 1 & 2 which they said could be for 4 people. Platting was really nice just like in Japan. Portions are really small and flavour is pretty bland/plain. It was a nice visual experience.
Pros: platting and colours
Cons: expensive and lacks flavour
