Good food

The atmosphere here is cozy, service was fast and food tasted good.
Unfortunately, vegan items aren't labeled on the menu and even though they say they're a vegetarian cafe they serve fish.
Given that I'm Georgian and familiar with the local cuisine, I could easily tell which items would be vegan friendly so I had no problem ordering, but those who aren't familiar might need help.
We ordered hummus, vegetarian bazhe with gomi, and falafel with couscous. We also got some blackberry compote and homemade herbal lemonade. Everything tastes great and overal I'm satisfied with the experience.

Pros: fast service , delicious food, many options

Cons: vegan items not labeled

A favourite

I visited in December 2016 with my sister who is not vegan or vegetarian (and she loved the food!). We shared the pumpkin soup (you can ask them to split one portion into two bowls) and lobio (spicy beans) for mains. The fresh lemonade is also delicious.

Pros: Several options, beautiful interior

Cosy vegetarian cafe in the old town of Tbilisi

Cafe Laila is a cosy place where you can enjoy yummy food. The interior is Persian style and really extraordinary. They also have nice outdoor seating.
The food is very good – we tried the dish with mushrooms in a walnut/pomegranate-sauce and the ajapsandali (stewed vegetables, similar to ratatouille). You have to try the homemade lemonade with lots of local herbs!

Vegan items are not marked - so you have to ask, which dishes are vegan. There aren't any vegan desserts. They claim to be a vegetarian cafe, but also offer fish.

Georgia is a great place for vegans. Many Georgians are very religious, and the Georgian-orthodox church has very strict fasting rules. During fasting times people should not eat any meat, eggs and dairy. And there are many fasting occasions per year, e.g. every Wednesday and Friday, before Easter, before Christmas, when someone has died…. So it is very easy to get vegan food in every restaurant that offers Georgian cuisine, not only in the places listed on Happy Cow. Many dishes rely on grounded walnuts instead of cream. Popular vegan dishes are ajapsandali (stewed vegetables, mostly eggplant), sweet peppers or eggplant with walnuts and spices (badridjani nigvzit), lobio (spicy beans). Mushroom dishes are also very common, salads are always on offer (tomato and cucumber, beetroot…). Georgians use lots of herbs and spices, so that even seemingly simple salads and vegetable dishes taste great!

Pros: Great atmosphere, Nice food, Friendly staff

Cons: Not so many choices for vegans (esp. dessert)

Calm relaxed atmosphere & great food

We ate here on two different occasions late July 2016 and really enjoyed ourselves. The first time was a snack lunch and the second visit was for a full meal. We went for Vegan options for the mains and found a fair choice (5 or six different dishes) but vegetarian for deserts. All were good and tasty - my favourite being the sautéed mushroom salad followed by apple pie. This isn't a fast food establishment and if that is what you need then there are many such restaurants nearby with vegetarian options, but if you want a slightly more relaxed meal and have a little time to spare then give it a try.

Pros: Good selection of vegetarian & vegan dishes, Lovely outside tables, if it isn't too hot, and, Cool air-conditioned room inside if it is.

Delicious food.

We ate here and had a range of vegan food and it was all excellent. The standout dish for me was some kind of mushroom salad - delicious!

Service was reasonably fast when we went (I'm just adding that because the initial description says service was slow).

Pros: Good food., Nice atmosphere., Reasonable cost.
