Good food - Edit
Vegan and vegetarian options. Food was good(not great). Might have been how late I was there but no vegan cheese was available. Ridiculously busy and loud but being a college area I guess that’s to be expected.

Continuously updating menu! - Edit
I’ve been here a handful of times now and am never disappointed with vegan options. I’m usually with Omnis and they also leave with a full belly. They offer at least one vegan item per menu section including the lunch box and dessert. They now have vegan parm which equals a very delicious vegan Caesar salad! Chili is yummy and spicy and green goddess sandwich was like an avocado and sprout salad on bread. I’ve never been to the bar but the menu says they have happy hour specials that include vegan cauliflower and seitan.

Good Appetizers! - Edit
The vegan nachos (added vegan sour cream) and vegan seitan wings (maple bbq) were both excellent! The nachos are a huge portion and could be a whole meal if not sharing. I would order both again. Non-vegan boyfriend really enjoyed the nachos as well.

Way way too salty - Edit
Nice vegan options - but everything has WAY too much salt. It seemed to be the only spice used. Most of the people were nice but waiter was clueless that we didn’t eat much of the food and we didn’t want takeout boxes. Really a bummer

Great vegan options - Edit
Really appreciate the vegan friendly menu and that the vegan dishes were purposely created and not just a token Beyond Burger.
Read moreAlong with our delicious entrées, we also had the Seitan Buffalo wings with vegan ranch sauce, which were awesome. I would definitely want to order them again.
The vegan carrot cake was a bit of a disappointment. It had too little carrots in it, that it tasted more of a spice cake instead, which is fine but not what I was expecting.
Pros: Has a variety of specific vegan options , Friendly service , Many items can be made vegan
Cons: Metered parking

Amazing Tofu Banh Mi - Edit
Went here with my non vegan friends and we all had a good time! The tofu Banh Mi was on fire (spicy, but not too spicy) and 14$ was a good price for it. Only thing we did not like is that while all the meals come with a side, you have to pay 3.5$ if you want regular fries as your side instead of salad or tortilla chips. Would visit again tho!!

Grilled Cheese! - Edit
So many vegan/gluten free choices (but be sure to let them know when ordering! A mistake I almost made, but we had the best server who ensured everything was prepared just as I needed!)... I settled for grilled cheese! So yummy! Jerk Tator Tots were also a hit!

Grew Up Here & Much Improved from Last Visit - Edit
I actually remember when this restaurant was a small clothing store that specialized in hemp clothing. Over the years, especially since becoming Vegan, I have stopped in when visiting my parents. This most recent visit was the best yet. They seem to have a new chef that has elevated the menu especially the Vegan options.
Read moreI had the brunch "egg" and "sausage" sandwich and I liked that they egg was housemade. The only downside was I wish the Vegan bread was as distinct as the croissant that the non-Vegan version of the sandwich comes on. My toddler had a grilled cheese that she enjoyed and my husband had the Bananas foster french toast (he is the non Vegan/Vegetarian in the family).
Finally, I definitely say stop by and try this restaurant. It is locally owned and has 22 years of history. I know I will be back especially with this new chef.
Pros: Many items are Vegan or have Vegan versions, Selection of craft beer, Kombucha on tap

I love that they can make almost any dish vegan. The food was delicious and fresh. This is a restaurant I can go to with family and friends and not have just buy a salad.

Lovely Tofu Bahn Mi - Edit
I had the Tofu Bahn Mi and Side Salad which I requested to be made Vegan. It was very flavorful and super filling. Plenty of options for Vegetarians and Vegans alike. Great atmosphere with lots of Pop Culture on the walls.

Meh - Edit
We like that there are many options available, and that everything is clearly marked on the menu, but we found the food itself to be somewhat underwhelming. The Pot O’ Fries was really cool, and the nachos were enjoyable. The falafel sandwich and the carrot cake were nothing special. The chickpea & pumpkin curry we straight up didn't finish - it was pretty bland, and the dry oyster mushrooms that were just tossed on top did not go with it at all. Service was comme ci, comme ça. If I am ever in the area again I might give it another shot but otherwise...

The most vegan friendly place around, especially for brunch items. Their vegan eggs are amazing. So many menu items can be made vegan. Menu is well marked and servers are knowledgeable about swaps.

Surprisingly delicious - Edit
Went to this place with a carnivore friend because he "thought they might have something vegan" and boy did they. Most of the menu can be easily made vegan. We split the hummus appetizer, which was great, and I got the super delicous tofu banh mi. I would def recommend.

Overall wonderful experience would highly recommend. Great for eating out with non-vegans, as they have options for everyone (vegan, vegetarian , GF, etc). The food you could tell was fresh and high quality. I would recommend the cauliflower wings, even the carnivores enjoyed it. Prices are moderate.

Great food friendly service. We stopped by for dinner. The waitress said almost everything can be vegan and we took her up on that. The seitan was nicely spicy and the risotto with tofu and local mushrooms was delicious. Finished off with vegan carrot cake.

My go-to for vegan cuisine - Edit
I have dined at HG many times, so many I can't remember. Most recent for my birthday. I am the only vegan, so it is great to have a place we all can have a good meal that fulfills everyone's tastes. Love the Buffalo Veggie Burger, made in house and tasty. Good beer list also!

One of the top places I take non vegans to - Edit
Homegrown is one of the few better places in town for a vegan diet. They have really good options available, and the best part is that you actually have variety. My personal favorites are the nachos, cauliflower wings, falafel wrap, and omelets. Yes my happy cow friends, they have mouth watering vegan omelets and I'm always sad that they don't have it on the dinner menu. Hopefully they will understand my personal needs for late night omelets sometime in the future. At least they regain my love with creative cocktails and a good selection on craft beers. Service is usually good, some of the servers can be a little slow. My only real complaint is price. It is pricey, and for that reason it takes some extra convincing to get my friends to eat there. But if you do go in, I advise trying the Vegan carrot cake, top with buttercream dressing and candied carrot pieces. So. Delicious.

Not impressed - Edit
I've been a couple of times when in Newark and have never been terribly impressed. The seitan in particular has not been very good. It's also a rather pricey place.

not impressed - Edit
I'm not impressed but I would consider giving it another shot. My main complaint is the lack of knowledge the server had regarding the vegan options. He couldn't answer the two questions we had and had to check with the chef after our food arrived. The mexibowl was so overwhelmingly spicy that I couldn't eat it. I waited to ask for vegan ranch to cool it down, but by the time I received it, my family was finished eating.

Would give 5 stars if I could - Edit
I love this place, it is my go to, please-all restaurant. I've been here many times because it is my closest, local vegan-friendly restaurant and I never feel tired of their menu. It's so flexible, many dishes can be made vegan or vegetarian and they've even switched up their menu recently so there's even more variety. You need to specify if you want it vegan while ordering, because you may not always know- some staff members are more sensitive to letting you know than others so always specify to be sure. It's a great place with a great atmosphere and all of my non-vegan and non-vegetarian friends will come here with me too because their food is all around good, apparently even the meat. They also have a bar area inside if all you're looking for is a drink or just a light meal!

Longtime go to vegan spot on Main St - Edit
I agree with the other reviews that it is important to confirm that everything you order is vegan.
Read moreThe great news, at least in my experience, is not only will they do this, the food is exceptional. I'll eat a powerhouse salad (kale, brussel sprouts, and pumpkin seeds etc) with a delicious beet burger on top and vegan fig balsamic dressing on the side. It is a lunch I never tire from because it is NOT a lifeless, mushy, barely flavorful salad.
Flavor and texture is something the chef takes seriously, including for vegans, and has done it for 20 some odd years on a major college main street where restaurant turnover is very high.
The seitan, wonderful homemade veggie beet burger, falafel, and tofu options are wonderfully done by the chef - all made in house and always nicely seasoned.
The flexibility in the menu is KEY to this place. If you make it clear to your sever nearly any salad (and many sandwiches and entrees) can be veganized by substituting meats for any of the above options. Unfortunately, the terrific polenta fries are no longer on the menu.
And if your in the mood for a craft beer - they always have a great selection.
