Spectacular! - Edit
Staff was really lovely and made us very welcome and comfortable. Ordered the fully vegan and gluten free breakfast, my hubby the tofu burger. Also green smoothie and a Karma Cola. For dessert, the Ferrero pie. Everything was soooo tasty!!! Highly recommended!!! It is in a hidden spot, but so cool.

Cozy place with yummy food - Edit
Lovely place with a nice menu full of yummy vegan options, include juices and shakes. I would recommend it if you feel like you want to have dinner in a quiet and cozy vegan restaurant.

Disappointing - Edit
Been here twice and both times it was completely forgettable. Overpriced bland food and incredibly slow service. There are so many better places to eat nearby, I really don't understand why it's got such rave reviews.

Meh - Edit
I’ve been here several times across a few years and never really been impressed. It’s not bad but it’s very overrated on my opinion.
Read moreThe service is often incredibly slow. Most of the food is bland and it’s on the more expensive end of things for a cafe. I’ve had chocolate cheesecake that you wouldn’t know was chocolate flavoured or meant to be cheesecake if you were told and it costs a fiver. Inside is a bit cramped, it’s a basement and it’s got minimal decor so it’s not really got any atmosphere.
The best thing it has going for it is the location, it’s handy for getting food before getting a bus or train.

Sadly very disappointed - Edit
I was very excited to check out this place on our last day in Edinburgh, as it’s fully vegan and has great reviews.
Read moreUnfortunately me and my boyfriend were pretty disappointed. The place had a weird vibe to it (tables placed in a weird order, music too loud, pretty dark) and wasn’t very clean. The burger and sandwich very very fatty and the burger bun a little burnt, the fries were soggy and not crispy.
I’m happy that this place is fully vegan but I wouldn’t eat there again if I came back.

nope - Edit
the place is small. it was full so i waited for a table on my own for at least 20 minutes with the staff completely ignoring me as if i was a statue. other people who came later on were all greeted immediately and told their options. but the waiters were even hesitant to come to the table where i sat by myself ? i didnt get water like the others, the table wasnt wiped, i got the appetizer and main meal together and waited for a long time (because many others were seved before me who came after me). there were very little options actually that werent a salad, it was expensive and the food was just not good either.

I had a nice smoothie and the quaterpounder burger. The home made bun wouldn't hold together and the burger was quite stodgy, I couldn't eat it all as I found it too dry.

Fantastic little place - Edit
This was a brilliant find after a morning wandering the New Town. I decided to go for the soup (cauliflower and tahini) having seen the reviews on HC and was not disappointed. It was amazing and just what I needed to help me adjust to the chilly Scottish climate! Fresh toasted sourdough bread, too. The cakes looked excellent but I didn’t try this time. There are gluten-free options if you need this.
Read moreUpdate April 2023: Another visit to Edinburgh and another chance to drop in. This time, I had the family and we needed to get takeaway. This was not a problem for them. We got two different sandwiches (carrot lox and beetroot) which were brilliant. Lovely fresh bread which was gluten free by default.

Delicious dinner - Edit
I was a bit hesitant to come here after reading some of the more critical Happy Cow reviews, but I’m so happy that I had dinner at Holy Cow. Yes, the menu is short and consists of a few burgers, sandwiches and bowls. It’s not extensive, but I was impressed with the quality of my tofu burger and the fresh chips that accompanied it. The burger and fries were very filling and full of flavour. They definitely hit the spot. For dessert, I had a “grass cake”, an aggressively green cake coloured with spinach. It was very well made and delicious (and not at all spinachy). Service was friendly and quick. My meal worked out to be about £20. I thought it was a fair price.
Read moreThe restaurant is located in the lower level of a large commercial block, a quick walk from the shopping centre. There is a sign above the stairs going down, and while it’s not the most colourful or well lit, it’s still easy enough to locate the restaurant.

Very cozy, all-vegan place - Edit
The menu is fully vegan, but short, with a choice of several burgers and sandwiches. The oyster mushroom burger is quite nice, if you're a fan of the dill mayo. Large selection of kombuchas and cakes to choose from.

Cakes second to none - Edit
I regularly visit Holy Cow and the burgers are exceptional. It’s always so disappointing to go to other restaurants and the sole vegan option is a sad shop bought burger, this is never the case at Holy Cow. I have omni friends who like to eat here as well so the food really is fantastic. If I get any cravings for cake this place is my first choice.
