Spectacular! - Edit
Staff was really lovely and made us very welcome and comfortable. Ordered the fully vegan and gluten free breakfast, my hubby the tofu burger. Also green smoothie and a Karma Cola. For dessert, the Ferrero pie. Everything was soooo tasty!!! Highly recommended!!! It is in a hidden spot, but so cool.

Restaurant quality food in a tranquil cafe atmosphere - Edit
A 90% organic, 100% vegan place, that bakes all its own bread and cakes on site. The menu seems like typical cafe fare like sandwiches and burgers at first glance, which gives the impression that its overpriced. It's top-end stuff, though, for people who don't mind paying extra for good quality, strong ethics and close attention to detail. My beetroot and orange soup was wonderful and of the kind of quality and depth of flavour that I'd expect from somewhere like Manna or The Gate in London. A brilliant addition to Edinburgh's vegan scene.
Read morePros: The well-cooked, flavoursome food, It's all vegan, It's almost all organic
Cons: There's only about 12 tables, Typical Edinburgh flight of steps to the door, Can get very busy at weekends

Okay BLT - Edit
I went here twice and had 1 really good dessert, 1 mediocre dessert, and 1 okay BLT. Unfortunately, I forget the name of the first dessert but it was on the top shelf of their pie case both times. Excellent! The second was a peanut butter/chocolate brownie with some sauce, but it was pretty dry. With the BLT, I've just had way better tempeh bacon. It needed liquid smoke or something. Just didn't have a real bacon flavor. I'd definitely go back for the first dessert but try something else for dinner.

Fully vegan, tasty, but small - Edit
Great to be in a fully vegan place, with seven (7) cakes. Main menu is burgers, sandwiches, salads or soup. I had the soup and bread which was lovely, and left room for gorgeous cake.
Read moreSmall inside, and hard to find in that there is no sign outside, or in the window, which says 'Holy Cow'. Go down the steps to the cafe. Friendly staff. Possibly a bit overpriced, even for city. (Burgers & chips £12, salads £9, soup £6 and cake £4.50).
Pros: Vegan, Tasty, Cakes
Cons: Expensive, Small, Hard to know it was the right cafe

Spot on Alyson.

It takes ages to get planning permission to put new signs on buildings in Edinburgh, so they had a sign tied to the railings outside. Someone stole it a week or so ago.

Halo Coffe - Edit
Hidden in the lower street level the street sign is labeled "Halo Coffee" which was a bit misleading and led to a minor tiff between me and my fiance. Once we got inside it was a great experience.

Good all-rounder - Edit
Pleasant decor and ambience, central location, good food and friendly and accommodating staff. I particularly liked the fresh ginger/lemon tea. The mushroom soup, Thai burger with chips and choc cheezecake were all fine.

The Best - Edit
If I had to chose a place to have my last supper at, that would be Holy Cow. I go there almost twice a month and I am never disappointed. So, now that I am on happy cow I can tell how much I love this place here as well!

Organic, vegan and delicious! - Edit
I love coming here on a regular basis. The food is always fresh and delicious. I had the soup of the day today which was roast pepper, lentil and herb. It was excellent, served with 2 slabs of homemade buckwheat bread. For desert I had the chocolate and peanut cake with chocolate sauce and soya cream- wish I had someone to share it with!

Friendly, bright, enjoyed - Edit
Quick visit for a couple of cakes and a smoothie. All great and fairly priced. The café is lovely and bright, superbly clean and friendly. Nicely tucked off the round down a set of outdoor stairs, it still has natural light coming. Definitely somewhere to return to. Very much recommended.
