Spectacular! - Edit
Staff was really lovely and made us very welcome and comfortable. Ordered the fully vegan and gluten free breakfast, my hubby the tofu burger. Also green smoothie and a Karma Cola. For dessert, the Ferrero pie. Everything was soooo tasty!!! Highly recommended!!! It is in a hidden spot, but so cool.

Ok but overpriced. - Edit
I used to go here alot in the past until more reasonable and better competition started to appear. The burgers are nice, if not a little average for the price (£12). Cakes are probably the highlight of my visits which is a shame.

Very nice small vegan Restauran - Edit
Definitely the best place to go for vegan food in Edinburgh. It is a little bit hard to find, although near to the City center. Delicious food as well as desserts and very friendly staff.

Food should improve - Edit
Lovely decorations and of course I love that it's fully vegan, but sadly the food isn't that convincing. The chips were almost burnt one time (I went twice).
Read moreI didn't try the cake though. They have a big selection, maybe that's where their strength is.
Pros: Fully vegan, big selection of cakes
Cons: Savoury food is not that great

Scottish vegan food is like McDonald food - Edit
I like the interior of the place, and the staff but that would be it. If I'm not vegan and couldn't really cook I would think vegan food is horrible. Burger was not nice, boring, and I could easly make better at home. The special tea with ginger and lemon was nothing but hot water with lemon for 3 gbp. You can't just cut ginger in peaces and expect the flavor to get out. My bf sandwich had dry and not tasty bread. The only tasty part was ketchup and chips that comes with the burger. Hot cacao was also not good. But I guess it's UK problem- restaurants serving food like 'I bought it convinience store and microwaved it'. I hope with time it will change :)

Getting a bit bored - Edit
Have been going regularly for a couple years but recently seems to have gone downhill a bit. Toilet door bolt loose and about to drop, tap sticks in on position, and price for cake is very high as in £4.50 a slice. Asked for carryout small veg soup, they rang till at £5 but asked for £6. Steps down are very worn and slightly hazardous. Still a good place if you want a home made veg burger and chips, but otherwise there are better places to go.

So yum! Do not miss this one! - Edit
Food here is just incredibly good! Great choices, too. The restaurant is lower level so you tale stairs down from the street, but easy to find if you look for the signs which are at street level. Staff in wonderful here, very friendly.

Amazing takeaway feast! - Edit
We called in for a picnic to eat on the train: 2 delicious open sandwiches - chickpea/smoked almond and carrot lox - on chunky homemade bread, both were delicious and filling. Halfway through our journey we were ready for our desserts: chocolate brownie with a caramel glaze and a slice of Bakewell tart. Best train picnic ever - probably cost us twice as much as a 'chain' sandwich/cake but it was 10 times yummier!

Yum - Edit
You get a real sense of community at Holy Cow. Food is locally sourced and so fresh. Feels like you’re visiting a friends home for meal. I ordered a chickpea and smoked almond salad sandwich and a delicious oat milk cappuccino. I was not disappointed. It was very yummy. I hope to be able to return again.

Great food and service - Edit
Tucked away just below street level, this vegan cafe/restaurant has a great selection - mainly burgers and sandwiches, couple of salads and a soup of the day. We visited twice in our five day trip to Edinburgh and thoroughly enjoyed it. All vegan, choice of 4 plant milks 👌

Kitchen closes BEFORE 21. We gave it a second try since kitchen already was closed the first night we tried, at 20.50. Worth it!

Wonderful hidden gem! - Edit
Completely vegan (although they don't shove it in your face so would be comfortable bringing my omni family members who wouldn't always consider a fully vegan place), exquisite menu with a select choice of unique dishes but still plenty of choice, can vary from coffee and cake, just a light bite or full meal.

Wonderful - Edit
This little gem is definitely worth going to. Huge portions of delicious vegan food. Menu changes seasonally. Staff are friendly and knowledgable and portions are huuuuuuge (so maybe order but by bit). My eyes were definitely hungrier than my stomach, but if you have any leftovers they will pack it up for you.

Nestled in beside the central Bus Station, Holy Cow is a well hidden gem. I've been coming here since it opened, and I'm soooo happy to see more people have caught on to its location and wonderful menu.

Lovely cafe and amazing cakes - Edit
I had a fantastic oat latte served in a large cup with a slice of baked cheesecake. It was one of the best vegan cheesecakes I've ever had, and I've eaten quite a few 😏 It was a tough choice from all the other amazing-looking cakes there. Service was lovely.

Delicious veggie burgers! - Edit
This place has delicious veggie burgers! It’s tucked away from a popular area, with an intimate, cozy design. The staff was so lovely and patient with me as I coordinated a to-go order from the phone. Sure, their desserts are a little pricey, but standard for Edinburgh. You’ll love this place!

Hard to find, overpriced. - Edit
This cafe was the first I had decided to visit in Edinburgh.
Read moreWe , two of us, set off, found the street near the bus station, only to find Halo coffee written outside.
Only on going down some stairs can you enter, and its's only then you see
Holy Cow behind the counter.
Why?
I had a celeriac fish burger, made from celeriac, very tasty, not quite hot enough temperature wise.
My OH had another burger, very tasty, seitan probably.
12 pounds for a burger is dreadful value though.
Dessert was magnificent, a vegan cheesecake I think.
Overpriced all told.
