Spectacular! - Edit
Staff was really lovely and made us very welcome and comfortable. Ordered the fully vegan and gluten free breakfast, my hubby the tofu burger. Also green smoothie and a Karma Cola. For dessert, the Ferrero pie. Everything was soooo tasty!!! Highly recommended!!! It is in a hidden spot, but so cool.

Very cool spot. Almost missed it as it’s below street level, but it’s a very cool place with a cute open air patio out back. I got the green smoothie which was a great pick-me-up. The cakes in the fridge also looked delicious.

Huge portions - Edit
Holy cow is a central restaurant that is very hidden, I didn’t know it was there until it was suggested to me.
Read moreThe portions are huge and the nori fish burger was very tasty. The smoothies are also fab!
There is also a cake selection however I was far too full to even think about cake.

I had the delicious vegan cream cheese and carrot lox sandwich. The flavours were lovely. The waitress was extremely friendly and very nice when I explained my mask had just blown into a puddle!

Fantastic burgers & cake - Edit
Whenever we are thinking of eating out, Holy Cow is always the first restaurant to cross our minds. It is a lovely space, and the food is always fantastic. A special mention has to be given to the ever changing cake options, which always provide an agonising decision when it comes to ordering desert. Be warned though, it can get very busy at meal times.

I had the carrot lox and it was really delicious, I bought along my non vegan friend who had the pulled jackfruit burger and was fascinated by how it was done and how good it was. We also shared a doughnut which was lovely. Staff were really nice too

Open sandwich - Edit
I had what was called a vegan CBLT on the menu, with false cheese, seitan for bacon, lettuce, and tomato, on sourdough bread, and a pot of tea. It was spot on, but the sarnie was left open as it were; it was bread at the bottom but none on top. Not a criticism as such, just notably odd for me. I also took a slice of cake away with me and had it on the train, based on a review on this very website, and it was also spot on. Decor's very cute and there's a corner with bits for kids to do and a bookshelf.

Disappointing burger - Edit
To be fair I had excellent service and a lovely turmeric latte. But I ordered the quarter pounder and was a bit disappointed - just a mushy bean burger really, small and fell apart quickly. Cheese sauce was cold and not especially cheesy. Few bits of salad but nothing great, raw red onion and tomato, no pickle. Overall a pretty amateur veggie burger which for the price wasn't good. The other menu options looked interesting but assumed the quarter pounder would be the substantial option, maybe the others are better and I do remember coming a couple years ago and being more impressed so could have been an off night. Chips were also cut completely ununiform. It's a nice restaurant with great service but with the quality of vegan burgers abut these days this one in particular needs stepped up!

After a short wait for others to finish and leave we enjoyed a lovely lunch. It’s great to see a vegan place so busy and after eating there I can see why. Our food was spot on and the service friendly. Next time we visit we’ll be back.

Holy cow on Happy Cow - Edit
Desert heaven! What a cake I had there. But first thing first. I came to full restaurant. Service was amazing and seated me kindly to waiting sofas. After I was seated I got free water (I know it is not everywhere in UK) and menu. I wasn't sure what I exactly want, so I asked for help from service. She offered me Quater pounder burger. I said yes. Quater pounder is automatically with fries. Fries were amazing. But I had better burger. I wasn't bad, but I didn't enjoy it. What came after burger was perfect. I ordered cake with peanut butter and chocolate. Heaven in my mouth! I also had Capucino where you can choose what kind of milk you want. My overall feelings about Holy cow are positive and recommend them for visit.

Cosy cafe - Edit
Very welcoming and cozy vegan cafe with a nice chilled vibe. We ordered the banoffee pie to share with a hot chocolate and refreshing energiser smoothie. The banoffee pie was very indulgent but personally I wasn't too keen on the gf base. It was also a tad expensive at £4.50 but 'hey!' we were on holiday so what the heck. Hot chocolate lacked sweetness too. We would probably visit again but we weren't completely blown away and did visit better vegan cafes on our recent trip. Accessibility is also a major issue due to steps.

Not bad for burgers and fries - Edit
This is a small little place, with sandwiches and salads, a soup of the day, and some desserts. The burger I had was good, the fries were good, and the chocolate cake I had was good. I haven’t been anywhere else in Edinburgh, so I can’t say how it stacks up. I’ll hit up some other places and come back and edit this.
