HipCityVeg is always a good decision! - Edit
I’m a huge fan from working often in Philly so when I came to DC on business and saw that there was a HipCityVeg here I had to go! Sweet potato fries with siracha aioli and curry tofu wrap for the dinner win!! Excellent food, excellent experience.

HipCityVeg takes all the egregious hallmarks of cheap nasty takeaway dining and veganises them, flipping them into a simple healthy delicious package of options. The dining floor area is small and it quickly gets overwhelming when demand surges but it's worth the swim. They fixed us a choc-chip banana milkshake as a variation on their menu which was DELISH. The tempeh burger was great.

Pros: simple easy menu containing excellent sophisticate, great service, great location
Cons: small dining area, slightly more expensive than u think a vegan place

This place had a line out the door and only about 4 tables. The rushed us through ordering because they were so busy.

get the philly!! - Edit
it’s a shame this place is so expensive because the food is really good. i guess the area it’s in explains why it’s overpriced though. we got the philly which was one of the best sandwiches i’ve ever had & the curry tofu wrap which was the first vegan sandwich that i was full mid-way through. the sweet potato fries are just excellent & the vanilla milkshake is good, but there’s an aftertaste that’s not bad, but makes you realize it’s fake. i’ve had shakes before (like harlem’s seasoned vegan) that are so good you question if you’d been had. if you don’t mind spending over 10$ on a vegan sandwich, then please go! the food is great!!

Great Spot - Popular, Limited Seating - Edit
Do you ever have this conundrum when you are at a vegan eatery and it is so crowded and you are a bit hangry and don’t want to wait but also happy because loads of people are there eating vegan food? I also have this conflicted feeling when there is no more Field Roast left at the store - sad for me, happy for the world. This is how I felt at HipCity Veg.
Read moreThis place was crazy crowded but worth the wait. I ordered the Bistro Bella burger with tapenade and Dijon mustard - amazing. My husband tried out their Curried Tofu wrap and said it was good (and it kept him full for a while as we trekked around DC) and my kid loved their chik’n nuggets. We also got an Orange Milkshake and despite it being freezing out, we carried that around in our frozen fingers and drank it over the course of the day. (Perks of frozen drinks in cold weather, they last longer!) This shake was off the charts, crazy good- a dreamsicle concoction that tasted like real orange. I highly recommend stopping by here. The seating is extremely limited so be prepared to stand or take it to go and have a picnic on the steps of the Portrait Gallery like we did!
Pros: Great Sandwiches, Close to Capital One Arena
Cons: Limited Seating

Unpleasant Customer Service Experience - Edit
My one star review doesn’t pertain to the food at all. The menu looked great and we were so excited to eat here. Unfortunately, the gal at the counter was so rude that we left almost as soon as we got there. She didn’t greet us, didn’t smile once, and seemed annoyed at our questions. We asked about the specials and instead of explaining the ingredients, she pointed at the menu. When we asked what the “chicken” was made out of she just said “soy protein”- not very descriptive and very blunt in delivery. It’s really unfortunate that her very poor customer service is the reason we chose not to eat here. We came to Fare Well instead and loved it :)

Vegan fast food - Edit
Hip City Veg is one of a few well-known Philly restaurants that have made their way to DC. HCV serves burgers, sandwiches, salads, wraps, and shakes that are all vegan, with the occasional rotating special (such as the yummy Wizard BBQ "Chicken" or special flavors of shakes). The food is pretty good; I've enjoyed most of my meals there. The staff is usually very friendly, greeting people as they come in and enthusiastically telling newbies that everything is plant based. However, it doesn't have much seating and can get crowded; it's probably best for you to eat and go. I'm not a fan of the tendency to not have sides with sandwiches and then sell large portions of sides. Why not include a small amount of fries or have a small side option available? And the drinks, while tasty, are a bit expensive, especially when you get a bit too much ice in your kale lemonade (which is pretty good). That said, if you're going to an event at Capital One Arena, skip the terrible concessions and get a bite at Hip City Veg instead.

As a part of our quick trip to DC, we made a point to stop at HipCityVeg! It did not disappoint. The Crispy Chickn sandwich and sweet potato fries were delicious! Make sure to get the matcha mint milkshake. Service was fast and hospitable!

Great Food! Subpar service... - Edit
Cute and clean place to find phenomenal vegan quick bites, saw the menu online and was super excited to try it. The girl behind the counter seemed to be having a bad day, never greeted us or asked to take our order, I stood there with my workmate, while no one else was in line. The girl looked at us and moved away from the register and started cleaning a machine. We waited patiently, then a man walked in and walked up to where we were and told the girl his order, she took his order and then returned to the machine. After a few minutes, she asked if we were ready to order.... It's a pet peeve of mine to not be greeted in a business environment, that's why we waited for her. Once we placed our order, we waiting anxiously for our food. It was well worth the wait... Everything was was deliciously ah-mazing!!! 😍 Thinking of going back tonight with the work crew tonight, hope it's that girls day off... 😒

FOOD IS SO GOOD - but maybe plan to order to-go - Edit
Food was so, so good. I got the fried "chikn" sandwich and I wish I could have ordered 100 to go. However, the place is small with VERY limited seating and is very popular (because the food is so good) so we ended up standing up to eat at a counter.

delicious greasy American food - Edit
We love this place. I love their Disco Chik'n (which has Gardein chicken AND tempeh), as a wrap and buffalo style. They charge extra for everything here, which sucks. And I've found the dishes to not be very consistent. Sometimes the Disco Chik'n is crazy spicy, sometimes there's only 1 pickle, sometimes it's breaded and sometimes it isn't. Service is generally friendly. Space is pretty small and tight. We always go at an "off" time so we'll be able to find a place to sit. Tend to avoid if it's peak hours, because if you don't get a seat it's hard to find a place to sit outside in Chinatown. But HipCityVeg will still always be one of my favorite vegan places in DC! A great place to bring guests and non-vegans.

The stuff is also extremely nice, you can see they just love their job.

AWESOME - Edit
My adventure into the city on a Snowy Saturday afternoon brought me across the doorstep of this tantalizing restaurant. The mint chocolate vegan shake completely took my mind off of the 20 minutes it took to find parking. The sweet potato fries in one word....... Yummy!!!! The chili.....OMG!! The Asian salad... tasty! Then, I bit into my stake and cheese!!!!! (Please wait while I wipe the drool from my mouth.) the texture, seasoning, EVERYTHING about this sandwich was satisfying. I don’t miss the carry out steak and cheese one bit!!!! My taste buds send kudos to the chef!!
