Slovenian typical food made vegan

I had vegan borac (seitan with spices, soy cubes, potatoes, onions, garlic) and it was very tasty.
A bit pricy but still worth it. I like the idea of having typical local dishes made vegan.
There is a menu only for vegan and vegetarian dishes, in which the vegan ones are clearly marked.
Staff speaks good English.
Central location.

Great traditional slovenian food

We tried almost every vegan option of the slovenian dishes and loved it. Even tough it was a busy Saturday night the service was quick and friendly.
We had to ask for the vegan menu bc the dishes are not on the regular menu.

Pros: Separate vegetarian menu, Vegan options clearly marked, budget friendly

Traditional Slovenian dishes veganized

It was absolutely a good choice to visit this place. Thank you guys here for recommendations!
I was craving for some traditional gulash and finnaly had the chance to have it.
You have to ask for the vegan menu, but once you receive it, you won't be disappointed!
Highly recommended!

Pros: Vegan meals, Nice waiter , Not the usual burger, pizza, hotdog etc.

The best vegan food I’ve had in Europe

This place has a whole vegan/vegetarian menu with adapted traditional dishes using seitan etc. Absolutely the BEST vegan food I’ve had in all my travels all over Europe. We ordered the goulash with a side of traditional flour potatoes and the combination was phenomenal. We went back twice in two weeks as the food was insane. Vegans visiting Ljubljana absolutely must come here. They don’t advertise vegan options on the outside of the restaurant at all so you have to ask for the menu.

Pros: Delicious food, Staff understand vegan meaning

Cons: Vegan food not outwardly advertised

So many vegan options, traditional food

Lovely outdoor seating area and whole separate vegetarian menu that you can ask for with lots of vegan options clearly labeled. Includes vegan meat sampler plate and vegan steaks, pastas, salads. The "side dish" that accompanied our steak turned out to be potato dumplings so if you want veggies order them separately. Homemade pumpkin seed oil at this place seems to be a thing so we got a salad with that. Ask for vegan dessert of the day.

Absolutely delicious

Had the bograč, served in a small hanging pot. Perfectly instagrammable and tasty. 1 point missing for a bit unfriendly service.

Amazing food, good service, lovely traditional Slovenian food

So nice to be able to try traditional Slovenian food, ordered off a separate vegan/vegetarian menu- just ask the waiters for it. So many great choices, we came back a second time during our short stay. Highly recommend vegan steak and doddles (dumplings). Nice location too in the shopping street near castle

Pros: Seperate vegan menu for ordering with confidence, Staff know what vegan is, Lots of options

Cons: None

The best in Ljubljana

Oh my god. This place is amazing. Separate vegetarian/vegan menu that you just have to ask for. After our first meal we came back 2 days later as it was the best food in Ljubljana. Had the Bograc and doddelles first time and second time we had the white and dark seitan steaks. Both were amazing but for me the Bograc was the best.

Pros: Lots of veg/vegan options, Great waiters, Nice location and cheap for a nice meal

Cons: None

Ask for the vegan menu !

This is a traditional Slovenian restaurant that serves meat, but has an entire vegetarian and vegan menu. The only problem is that you have to ask for this second menu because it is not indicated anywhere that they have vegan options.

I suggested to the waiter to put something in the front of the restaurant or to add the vegan dishes directly to the first menu and he agreed with me, but told me that the owner doesn't want to. I guess she probably thinks that being labelled vegan wouldn't be a good a advertising... but still decides to offer so many vegan options... I remain puzzled about this behaviour.

Anyway, the food was good. And it's a nice opportunity to try a vegan version of traditional Slovenian food

Pros: A lot of vegan options, Traditional slovenian food, Nice staff and good location

Cons: The vegan dishes are hidden..., You have to ask for the vegan menu

Mostly great

Service was wonderful, full menu of just vegetarian/vegan options but you need to ask for it! I was with someone who has life threatening but allergies and the accommodation was no issue - all allergens are listed on all entrees. They seemed to be very careful about cross-contamination. This place is all about pumpkin seeds which is fun. I loved how it was traditional but also accommodating.

I ordered a soup which was fantastic. then a vegan steak which was so-so. It’s the reason I did not give five stars, the plum sauce I had with it just wasn’t good. It came with a potato dumpling side which was the best part of the meal.

Pros: Lots of vegetarian options, Excellent handling of allergens, Great place to take a carnivorous family

Cons: Not a lot of vegan options, Meat substitute was ok

Wish I could give 5 stars

Just off the river, this place has a separate veggie/vegan menu that you can ask for. All traditional Slovenian food made with buckwheat/seitan/soya instead of meat. We had potato dumplings, seitan steak and a 'meat' and potato stew which were all delicious.

Pros: Separate veggie/vegan menu

Great vegan options

On arrival you are given a special menu with only vegetarian and vegan choices. I have tried their seitan steak in pepper sauce (amazing), dodoli (a traditional dish from Prekmurje made from potatoes) and goulash (with soy meat). Everything was really delicious. The only disadvantage is the price, really (I think the steak was about 15 euros). No dessert options, sadly.

Pros: really tasty food, location

Cons: price (expensive), no dessert options, problems with online reservation
