My fav dining out vegan spot so far! - Edit
Gracias Madre hardly needs my review. The restaurant is busy and for very good reason--the food is out of this world!
Read moreI've had a few things, but the nachos is standout for me. My wife and I go and split the nachos and a pitcher of excellent margaritas. 'nuf said.
Pros: Beautiful patio with beautiful people, The omnivores will be happy here too, Lots of tequilla
Cons: Hard to get a table, Parking in Weho can be challenging

Ambient perfection with excellent service - Edit
There is a lot to love about Gracias Madre, and only a couple minor detractors. So, what makes this vegan restaurant one you’ll want to visit?
Read moreTLDR:
Ambiance - 5/5
Service - 5/5
Food & Drink- 4/5
Value - 4/5
Total - 18/20
The restaurant itself is stunning, particularly the courtyard, which has heaters that were welcome. A large tree adorns the center back of the area, slightly obscuring the bar behind it. A fireplace was going strong, and everyone around me in the restaurant seemed to really be enjoying themselves. 5/5
Service was stellar. My waiter was personable, friendly, and her visit cadence was spot-on. The two hostesses were pleasant and quickly led me to my table. I went around 8:45 on a Tuesday evening. It was still busy, but I didn’t have to wait for a table. I expect that’s very different on the weekends, when you’d probably want to make a reservation to ensure a time that works for you. 5/5
The food, while delicious, had just a couple minor flaws, which I’ll cover. I had:
-Calabacitas Rellenas (main)
-Nolonche (mocktail)
Calabacitas Rellenas translates to stuffed zucchini. There were three zucchini halves on a plate. The insides had been mostly scooped out, filled with soy chorizo, garbanzo beans, and cashew mozzarella, amongst others. These were then roasted and served atop a small amount of potato mash and mole.
Most of the dish was perfect, particularly the flavor and skill with which the zucchini was roasted (cooked, but still firm). However, for $27.50, it needed to be a little better. These are minor complaints, but for the price, I’m going to list them.
1. The zucchini itself wasn’t properly seasoned. The filling was delicious, but the zucchini should shine as well. The firm texture was there (thank goodness, as I dislike overcooked zucchini), but a tad more salt would have gone a long way.
2. The textures weren’t varied enough. The dish would have benefited from more crunch, even if it was just a garnish. The dish advertised pepitas. Those were technically there, but the dish could have used more.
3. Similarly, the colors all had very similar tones. The dish needed more color. A few pomegranate seeds would have been a perfect bit of flair.
The drink (Nolonche) was refreshing with a zing. It consisted of flavors of hibiscus and prickly pear. I really enjoyed it (even for $12). That said, it was a little unbalanced, leaning heavily towards the hibiscus. I would have preferred it to be slightly sweeter. 4/5

Quite good! - Edit
Everything was pretty good, but felt a bit too heavy for my taste! Great to see that everything is also organic too. The prices are just ridiculous and might make people think that going vegan is expensive 😓

A must-visit vegan hotspot - Edit
We visited Gracias Madre and it was a really great evening meal - date night! - with a fun vibe, upmarket surrounds and friendly staff.
Read moreThe food was on the upper end of the budget but the flavours were good.
The nachos were fantastic and I really recommend them.
We had two different bowls and was a little underwhelmed. The price was pretty high and the two bowls were basically the same (both had pesto in abundance.) they were tasty but… for $22 you’d expect more OOMPH.
Overall I’d still visit again and have something else from the menu.
Pros: Totally vegan menu!, Great vibe
Cons: Expensive

Never Disappoints - Edit
Have been to this place twice this week - food is stellar. Big surprise was Monday night when we went on the early side. There's a Happy Hour. The food is about half price, as are the drinks. Margaritas and a bunch of small plates from Gracias Madre is about as perfect a meal as you can get. EVERY dish was amazing - no recommendations because no matter what you choose will be the right choice.

Thought it was ok - Edit
This place definitely certainly gets a lot of hype. I thought some items were better than others. I really enjoyed most of the entrees, including the queso fundido and the empanadas. Chips and guac/salsa was good as well. I however did not enjoy the taco trio that I got. The tortillas, in my opinion, just were not good.

Incredible! - Edit
I just cannot describe how wonderful is this place. The cocktails are incredible, the food is super tasty and the staff is amazing. The atmosphere is great and i would suggest to go in the evening and have a pre drink in the bar (you don’t need to book the bar) you do have to reserve in advance for the main restaurant.

The patio and ambience are as good as the food. “Crab” cakes are a must, as is the guacamole and burrito. Great cocktails and wine choice.

My Favourite Vegan Restaurant in the World - Edit
Even if my HappyCow reviews don't reflect it (I'm working on it now though) I've been to most highly rated Vegan restaurants in "big cities".. While there are many amazing 5 star restaurants with amazing food, Gracias Madre is definitely my favorite. The food is simply amazing, and the venue itself is also great (I've also been to the SF one, and the location is not at nice as the WeHo one).
Read moreThey have the best green juice, the nachos are also top #2 (along with Jajaja in NYC) and the Caesar salad is to die for.. and so are the Tacos. I've been to the restaurant 3 times since 2017 and all were absolutely amazing.
I can't forget to also mention the crab cakes or the flan.... they are so damn good.
Pros: BEST FOOD EVER
Cons: The fact that I have to fly 15 hours to eat it :)

Best restaurant or my life - Edit
Went there September 2018 and didn't have HappyCow back then. Still think about this restaurant so thought I would leave a review. The tastiest, most amazing food I've had in my life. Much better than other "fancier" vegan in the city. Please go.

100% organic vegan YAY!!! - Edit
Probably the best guacamole and tacos I’ve ever had! The tortillas were soft and fresh. The drinks were also great and so was the tres leches cake. The atmosphere is pretty fun too.I recommend you make a reservation, it was nice to walk in and be taken directly to a table instead of standing around and waiting like several people were 😬

Disappointed - Edit
The place is absolutely beautiful, the service was very friendly and the menu looked great. But from the 4 items we’ve ordered, I only liked one - the tortilla soup (it was really good!). The rest just didn’t have much flavor at all (maybe we’ve ordered the wrong items?) and for $20-$22 a dish, it had absolutely nothing special about it. The Brussels sprouts and the cauliflower we ordered almost had no seasoning at all. I really loved the place itself but would not come back for food, unfortunately.

Very bland - Edit
Super confused by all the positive ratings. The atmosphere is cute so maybe that’s why people like it? I appreciate what the restaurant is trying to be but couldn’t believe how dull the food was. My table had the nachos and wet burrito, things that typically are not difficult to make taste good and these tasted like nothing.

Yummy vegan Mexican food- but pricey - Edit
We enjoyed our meals at Gracias Madre, especially the overall vibe and the tres leches cake. The entrees and drinks were good, but felt a little overpriced for what we actually got. We loved the outdoor patio and how many choices there are on the menu.

The food was well worth the money. We got the Wet Burrito and the Uno Bowl. The wet burrito comes with jack fruit, guacamole and an assortment of veggies. It was absolutely delicious. You have to eat it with a fork because it’s a bit messy! The uno bowl came with soy chorizo and was delectable. Both dishes were equally as tasty.
Service****
Quick and friendly service. We were approached right away and given a bottle of water. Our service never lagged and the waitress was very friendly.
Atmosphere****
Cute and cozy atmosphere. There is metered street parking and a few lots nearby. The tables are appropriately distanced. It’s required to show vaccine card when entering.
