Immersive experience - Edit
This was a real treat. We had the early menu. I thought it was expensive but there were more items than I had expected. I was sure I had read 5 courses but including the canapés and sweet treats with the bill I’m sure it was closer to 10 items and therefore decent value considering the number of staff, location etc. I couldn’t bring myself to spend nearly double by having wine pairings although that would have been lovely and even a glass of wine was so dear that I stuck to water. Having said that, the flavours were so strong and amazing I think that tap water between courses was probably spot on for the gastronomic experience. The timing was perfect. Not too long between courses as we had a performance to get to but never rushed either. Glad I went. Might try larger menu or wine pairings in the future now I know what to expect.

Fantastic food and service! - Edit
I had been dreaming about going back since Alexis Gauthier went fully vegan. It didn't disappoint!
Read moreEvery dish was excellent, refined and flavoursome (the brioche and wild garlic pesto and the asparagus with the morel and dashi sauce were exceptional), and the wine pairing was superb!
Not in the photos but the canapés and the sweets accompanying coffee were lovely. The service was on point too, as expected.
Pros: Every dish , The wine pairing , The service

I have waited such a long time to visit and I absolutely loved it. A nine course gastronomic journey. The food is just incredible. It is pricey but so worth it for a special treat.

Average & overpriced - Edit
I'd been excited to visit Gauthier for a long time but was left disappointed after the 5 course early evening menu. The portions were tiny, and I know vegan can be about showcasing good veg but I was expecting a bit more excitement, interesting or different ingredients, and at least some decent protein somewhere. This was all lacking. A course of 2 pieces of asparagus was a bit of a joke, and the desserts were minute, a 5p size circle of sorbet and a single strawberry cut into 4. Felt very overpriced and this was sadly our worst vegan meal we had all weekend.

A mixed experience - Edit
This was my first time at Gauthier, and it's possible we were there on a bad night. The service was not great (there was a mini-disaster early on, involving a bright green sauce and a diner's clothes - we didn't see the waiter again that evening, but these things happen - it was more that the waiting staff had learned their lines but couldn't move beyond them...) and the food, while good - especially the pastry which was superb - was not exceptional. I really appreciate that this is a place leading the way in central London for vegan fine-dining, but I can't help thinking that other places are catching up fast - or even over-taking. Also...it's very very expensive! (Even for the 'cheap' early evening menu...)

Delicious vegan fine dining - Edit
I love the fact that this restaurant took a risk and went fully vegan. So I persuaded my husband and a couple of friends to come and give it a try. They have 2 sittings, one at 5pm and one from 7.30pm. We had the smaller 5 course tasting menu at 5pm. It was £55 per person for the food, and if you wanted the wine flight, that was an extra £45. The restaurant is in an old town house in Soho so each room is quite small, it is simply decorated but feels inviting. The food was delicious, 5 courses including a lovely flakey roll (a bit like a vegan croissant) with pesto, asparagus with morel mushrooms, a pea risotto, and a couple of lovely sweet courses. The wine was all really good. The staff were efficient and explained what we were eating and drinking. My only tiny criticism was that because we can booked the early sitting we had to be out quite early, it would have been nice to have more of a break between courses.

Went here for dinner before the theatre on a Tuesday, the dishes somehow just kept getting better and better. My Omni partner was also really impressed, pineapple dessert was beyond amazing!! We will be back!

Very disappointing experience - Edit
We sat in the upstairs room which was pleasant. Our waitress was nice but showed no passion and spoke so quietly we like others close by had to check the menu to confirm our dish. We had the 95 pounds dinner menu ând were served a succession of dishes that were just average. The only dishes worth a mention were the cauliflower soup, the brioche and the ravioli truffe dish. At the end of the meal, a fairly unpleasant gentleman plopped a couple of mignardises on our table without any politesse with the bill just shy of 300 pounds that included a service charge of 15% which was not optional.
Read moreWe had hoped to live a gastronomic expérience, however, sadly we left with heavy heàrts ând would not recommend this restaurant. Over priced and passionless food.
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Thé whole expérience , Over priced , Poor service

I think they are really going downhill lately. I had a similar service experience where, shockingly, they took food away before we were even finished! I do have to say, the new mushroom-based meat entrée was absolutely terrible and tasted like soap.

Mr Gauthier emailed us and promised a refund for our meal, we sent him our banks details and one month later, we are still waiting for it. He is the one that offered the refund, we did not ask, but as he offered, we accepted. Just emailed him again, probably blocked us. Disappointed and not of good faith

Mr. - Edit
The visit to Gauthier Soho restaurant was planned at the last minute for 27.12.2023, for which I am very grateful to the willingness of the staff for several exchanged emails. Since my girlfriend Zuzana and I have been vegans for quite some time, we wanted to treat ourselves to something special. What the team from the restaurant did perfectly and proved that even vegan food can be simple to look at and at the same time luxurious full of perfect taste. After arriving at the restaurant at the reception, the waiter took care of us and seated us at the table. Individual courses were served at a very professional level with short breaks of 10-15 minutes. Individual dishes were balanced by excellent taste and perfect service. We had a ten-course dinner, seven of which were from appetizer to main course. Three courses were sweet desserts. Before each course, we were explained what food will be served and what components are in the food. At the end of the dinner, we were surprised with a special bonus dessert. During the dinner, the drinks were served by a sommelier. This dinner was and will be an unforgettable experience for a lifetime for me and my girlfriend. Thank you very much to the staff. We wish you much luck, success and energy in the promotion of plant-based food.

An amazing experience - Edit
We were looking for a restaurant to celebrate Valentine's Day last year. I saw they were offering a special 10-course menu for the occasion but most of the menu wasn't gluten-free. I really wanted to try their food so I contacted them to find out if they could tailor the menu for us. They said it wouldn’t be a problem as they always prepare alternative dishes, we just had to indicate it clearly when booking.
Read moreWe must have stayed nearly 4 hours in the restaurant: needless to say it was a culinary experience, way more than just a dinner. This slow pace gave us time to enjoy the moment in a very calm & quiet environment (not the place to have loud conversations). It's quite expensive (we paid £145 per person without the drinks) but I actually think it was good value for money.
A few of my observations:
*They managed to make me like ingredients I usually don't like (e.g. mushrooms or olives, for example).
*I didn't even know vegan caviar existed until then.
*It’s always a good idea to ask the restaurant if they can tailor your needs beforehand, it’s not always indicated on their website and you could be positively surprised.
Pros: Fully vegan, Michelin starred Chef Alexis Gauthier, Vegan caviar available online

Classical fine dining in a soho townhouse with fully vegan menu - Edit
We were unavoidably delayed for our reservation but the amazing team managed to get us seated and fed before the second sitting. The restaurant was cosy and pretty with oil lamps on the table and low level lighting. The food was needless to say, excellent and very good value for money at £55 for seven courses. Very nice to dine in a fully vegan restaurant that shows what is possible with top quality ingredients and a chef committed to not killing animals.

The best food I have EVER had, unforgettable - Edit
Listen, I love junky vegan burgers and Chinese take-out, so I wasn’t sure this high-end fancy food with a set menu would be for me. I was utterly blown away. A MUST-DO for vegans in London in my opinion!
Read moreThe chef is just absolutely incredible, and has clearly made his cooking into an art-form. There are a couple duds in the menu, those being the clarified butter crudité thing and the savory cheesecake, but that is mostly down to individual taste. Everything else though, the bar just kept getting raised! Each time, after eating the most flavorful and complex little plate of food of my life, the next plate would come out and its flavors would be unlike anything I have ever had. The BEST croissant I have ever tried, vegan or not. The most incredible black garlic tortellini accompanied by a heavenly sun-dried tomato ravioli. A potato ROSE covered in a savory dashi broth. Heck, this is the only time I have ever liked beets! They were cooked to perfection.
Utterly masterful cooking, and a meal I will never forget! Your tastebuds will be challenged and delighted. For me, this was an experience worth every penny.

We had the Grand Dîner, and every single dish was beautifully presented. The ravioli was definitely my favourite (though the brioche and the strawberry are not far behind), and the only dish I did not like was the olive cheesecake. Every dish was intriguing and unlike anything I’ve had before.
