Not very vegan-friendly anymore - Edit
I used to love to go to Frø, sometimes several times a week. However, after they changed their menu in the beginning of May 2023, I cannot recommend it anymore to vegans or persons that like plant-based food. It went from a very vegan-friendly café with a lot of options to a regular café. Honestly, I don't understand this step but now it seems like they never really cared about veganism or plant-based food.
Read moreThey removed most of the vegan dishes on their menu; no pancakes during the week, cake is not vegan anymore, the avocado toast got replaced with an egg alternative, minestrone soup not vegan by default, baguette not vegan, muffins not vegan. The worst is probably, that their special pancakes (level 2 and 3) are not vegan anymore. They used to only offer vegan pancake variations. At least the cinnamon buns are still vegan (I hope) but they don't offer them that often anymore. All in all it's definitely not the go-to café for vegan people in Tromsø anymore.
The coffee quality varies from good to okay, dependent on the barista. But the coffee is by default with cow milk, so pay attention there.

My favorite place in Tromsø - Edit
Nearly everything is vegan and DELICIOUS. We've stopped in a couple of times, and the staff is always friendly. The environment is really nice, as well, with lots of space. We loved it! The cinnamon buns are our favorite 🤤

Tasty but not many options - Edit
There are several dessert options like pancakes, rolls and brownies. However if you want to have lunch, then the only option is the avocado bread. I tried it and it was tasty and I liked all the flavors and the combination.

The avocado toast was a good size with the right avocado ratio.
Hot chocolates were also very nice.
Do feel it could do with more options like a burger or hummus, for picky eaters as I was stuck with the pancakes.

We had a chai latte and hot chocolate with oat milk. Really tasty and creamy
Pancakes were really good. Toppings change however I had blueberries
My OH had avocado toast - this was really tasty
To top it off we took some sun buns (a large iced bun with a vanilla cream)
We paid around £40 for our food which is expensive for breakfast however for Tromso it seems to be fairly priced
We'll def be visiting again #Veganuary

Everything is vegan, except that they offer cow's milk alongside plant milks. We had a pistachio bun, a cinnamon bun and a chocolate pie, along with hot chocolate, and everything was great! The space itself is lovely (love the Baby Yoda display!), with a cozy atmosphere, and the staff is friendly. Highly recommended!

Amazing pancakes - Edit
I had pancakes and a pistachio bun and they were so delicious. Really wish I could have tried more of the savoury options as they also looked very tasty. Everything is vegan apart from the option of cow milk.

The only place to go in Tromso - Edit
The city of Tromso has exactly zero vegan restaurants. It does however have two vegetarian lunch rooms (read: not open for dinner). One of them is "Fro" (meaning "seed" in Norwegian): located in the city centre, at the main shopping street.
Read moreThe menu changes by the day and when I first visited (Saturday) there were pancakes on the menu. Only pancakes. The only choice was between blueberries, blueberries and some other fruit, blueberries and vanilla. The staff assured me that the pancake batter was vegan, so I ordered the blueberries. The pancakes were fluffy, warm and delicious. The berries made them even better.
However: pancakes are not "food". As to their nutritional value they're sweets, cookies or kind of cakes at best. Thus I felt hungry again less than 2 hours later.
On my next visit I recommended the avocado sandwich to go. When I opened the box at the airport I found writing from the staff inside. So kind! The taste of the sandwich was very good, but because of the box the chef couldn't present the meal as it was meant to be. Still, the lunch was infinitesimally better than any vegan airport lunch could ever be. Thanks Fro!

Everything is plant-based with few exceptions, such as dairy milk if requested. On Saturdays the staff said they have an option of 3 pancake toppings but on a regular day they have one option. We had pancakes with blueberry jam, would highly recommend!

Frø has several vegan options, and is mainly plant based, with a few exeptions. I highly reccomend going here for "Pancake Saturday", when they have more vegan pancake options.

Må bare advare de som glemmer headsett eller om dere treffer eieren i en av hannes dårlige dager, at man kan bli kastet ut fra en café av bare å snakke.
Kan bare tenkte meg ny-foreldre med barn eller om du er en av de som snakker høyere enn vanlig = da er ikke dette stedet for deg, desverre.
Jeg hadde forreste kjøpt varer av frø og satt og spiste maten og drikke under møtet.

We came here for breakfast and were very satisfied. I was a little worried because someone mentioned the avocadotoast is a little small but well I don’t think so. Nice staff and delicious food. It’s a little pricy but I think it’s Ordinary for Norway. #Veganuary

Sehr lecker aber sehr kleine Portionen - Edit
Wir hatten das Avocado Toast und die pancakes, die beide wirklich sehr sehr lecker waren. Allerdings kamen wir mit Hunger und sind nicht annähernd satt geworden. Das Avocadotoast ist tatsächlich nur eins und die mini Suppe die man dazu bekommt sättigt auch nicht weiter. Dafür sind die Preise dann doch recht happig. Café und heiße Schokolade waren auch gut. Als wir da waren gab es auch nur drei Optionen zum Essen und an Gebäck nur die Pistazien Schnecken.
