Don't judge us by our skin color. They deserve 1 star - Edit
Honestly I love this place. I love the fact that they have a vegan friendly bar and restaurant but honestly tonight they strongly dissapoint me because I brought my friends over and they took long to take our order. They took other people's other instead of us even though we got there and sat down first with the menu. I thought racism was over but I guess not.

This restaurant is over the top amazing! - Edit
This place is a must try, and they have their own parking lot too! All food is amazing, and everything on the menu is VEGAN! They do sell some non vegan products in their attached market so please be aware of that. The owners and staff are all very friendly and everyone will feel welcome here.

Reluctant choice of others in party - Edit
Someone in our party wasn't sure about here because we had been driving all day from San Diego and was looking for something closer. Luckily we came here. I also didn't make the connection before looking at reviews that this was the Follow Your Heart that I but my smoked Gouda from at home in Norcal.
Read moreGreat choice. We got seated right away in a not so large cafe located off the regular market. Friendly service and attentiveness of the staff.
Food fantastic - got the mac and cheese appetizer to share. Best I've had even better than my previous choice from Homeroom (Oakland,CA) and much needed after a disappointing mac and cheese from Modern Sharman in Whittier.
I had the Reuben which was great, it had raw carrot slices as a side - skipped all the fried side option add on. Also, one had the chicken pot pie with sides of beets and kale which was great and I got to eat those leftovers for breakfast the next day - still tasted great. Also, one had the meatball sandwich but wanted lasagna - confusion in not wanting to duplicate orders.
Unlikely to get back here anytime in foreseeable future but huge thumbs up. Five starts because they also have a decent SOS menu which I normally try to adhere to at home. But this was vacation time so treated myself to some of the FYH regular menu.
Pros: Lots of variety, SOS free separate menu

Lots of options - Edit
Vegan heaven! The marketplace is super cool and has an eclectic stock of different products. We at in the restaurant for breakfast and enjoyed our meal. My husband got the special which was an chilli chilli omelet and it was very good. I ordered the tofu Benedict and wouldn't reccomend it as it was lacking in flavors and was just mediocre.

Excellent little cafe! - Edit
I really enjoyed Follow Your Heart's restaurant. It's a like a little home-style cafe in the back of their market. I'm a big fan of their cheese, so I wasn't surprised how much I liked their Mac and Cheese. It was really cheesy. I also had a pizza which was very good. It had a thick crust with pesto and cheese. I will definitely go back when I'm in town!

BEST vegan mac and cheese - Edit
Follow your heart has the best vegan Mac and cheese I’ve ever had. It’s very creamy, flavorful, and overall delicious! The dish is baked and has breadcrumbs on top! The side is kale and carrots sautéed in oil and garlic. Sooo good! But the kale and carrots are a hit or miss. The past few time I’ve gone they were not great but before they were the BEST kale and carrots I’ve had!
Read moreThis is a $15 meal though... so I just wish I didn’t have to guess to see if the side will be good or just oily.

Love FYH - Edit
The store is great. All your favorite FYH products under one roof! The restaurant is okay. The menu is hit or miss, but I'll always support them. The store/restaurant are always hot for some reason. Wish they would turn the air on once and awhile. The restaurant is also making vegan their default (they were mainly half veg, half vegan) which is a great step. Wish they would make the whole plave vegan.

How do you describe a place that’s been perfection for years? All I can say is that you must go if you haven’t already. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all not only delicious, but filling and fairly priced. Portions are huge, but the food is so good you’ll clear your plate. Trust me when I say you won’t be disappointed when you eat here.

Awesome restaurant, market and boutique! - Edit
We just recently discovered this place, and I am positive that we will become regulars. The breakfast and lunch that my husband and I enjoyed was off the charts delicious! And we had such a hard time choosing, because the HUGE menu is all vegan. The tempeh Reuben was unbelievably good. And the portions are huge. The little market and boutique are great too! We’ll be back for sure.

vegan omelet - Edit
Follow your heart’s vegan omelet stole mine. Not only is it delicious, but my BF even said it was better then the real thing. They use the FYH vegan egg, which can be used in any of their menu items, to create the fluffy and delicious omelet analog.

Homestyle Diner for Vegetarians and Vegans - Edit
I absolutely love this place and miss it since I moved away from L.A.
Read moreIf you're vegan, try the cottage tofu on a sandwich instead of a cheese slice, I was so impressed with the cottage tofu I went out on a mission to make my own.
My favorite dish though is the pot pie, which is totally vegan, and there was some kind of steamed kale and beet salad with it - just awesome.
Cozy atmosphere filled with crystals and other hippie stuff, with an original old-school diner counter that makes the eating experience even more pleasant.
When you're finished eating stop by the grocery store and stock up! I have a devotion now to FYH that I choose their products over some other vegan brands. I realized that Vegenaise actually tastes better than Just Mayo and I put it on everything!
Pros: Home-style Diner Food, Cozy Atmosphere, L.A. vegetarian history
Cons: There are eggs and dairy in the building

Very disappointed!!! - Edit
If I could, I would have given this one star. We were so excited to get some food from Follow Your Heart by looking at their on-line menu. We ordered to go and I quickly checked to make sure we received the right items but I should have looked closer.
Read moreWe ordered the vegan tofu omelette, vegan gf french toast, and vegan gf tofu Benedict.
The French toast was dry and didn't come with syrup or vegan butter. The french toast itself was ok...not very flavorful.
The tofu benedict was terrible. There was a slab of raw tofu on a piece of dry gf bread. The bread should have been toasted and the tofu should have been crispy or at least cooked.
The food might have been ok if we ate there but considering we got it to go, we probably won't be back. Plus the food was terribly overpriced!
Pros: vegan options , gluten free options
Cons: bland, over priced , to go tasted terrible

reliable food - nothing fancy, with an associated store - Edit
Cozy, no-frills restaurant with a counter. Everything I've had over the years is good and I love the store. I was there yesterday and had the "eggwich" sandwich, which was tasty. In the store I asked if they had Bee Fee Honee and the assistant said he'd never heard of it. They have their own wonderful products and also Gardein and Miyoko's nut cheeses.

Meh - Edit
Lots of vegan options but there are a few sneaky dairy options that vegans need to beware of. The soup here is thick and flavorful but I often find the main dishes lacking. Perhaps I haven't ordered the right thing yet but so far I have tried the chicken curry dish, enchiladas, burrito, tamales, chicken pot pie and lasagna. Aside from the burrito and soup, everything tasted pretty bland. However, I do tend to prefer food with a little more kick. People really do hype it up a bit too much.

Pros: vegan options, vegetarian friendly, Soup samples
Cons: sneaky dairy food, HUGE WAIT TIME, slow service

The dairy is not "sneaky" it's clearly labeled on their soup of the day board, and on the menu items are listed as vegan, having a vegan option, or neither. They have a copy of their 1970 menu on the wall near the rest room, it's not a secret that they're a vegetarian not a vegan restaurant.

Big disappointment - Edit
This is a little market that has a decent size restaurant inside. There's an indoor seating location and a patio seating space. Few tables on both of them but there's also a bar section for those who prefer eating alone.
Read moreThe restaurant has a decent size menu with variety of foods from mac and cheese, to Indian food. They have sandwiches, pizzas, salads, bowls, soups, etc. They also have natural juices and desserts. The market is pretty nice too, it has loads of health food stuff, vegan food galore, but that's where the problem is. As far as I knew, Follow your heart was a Vegan brand. When I became a Vegan, 11 years ago, Follow your heart was one of the few vegan cheeses, vegan mayo, vegan sour cream. I have to admit I never followed their story. When I came to this restaurant, I was asked if dairy was ok in my food? :( No is not ok!! Why would it be ok? Because this is a vegetarian / vegan restaurant! :( you have to specify you want your meal Vegan because they serve dairy and eggs! That was so awful! They also had dairy products and eggs in the store :( Oh honey too. The food was ok. Some of the portions seemed kind of small but once you start eating, you realize it is actually a lot. I did like my food and so did my friends but I am just disappointed at the fact that I was expecting a Vegan restaurant. If that doesn't disappoint you, then you should go right ahead and try this restaurant because it is actually not that bad. They also have their own parking on the side so you don't have to worry about looking for parking. Be warned that the space is limited so you might have to wait quite a bit during rush hour.

Pros: tasty food, Parking, Varied
Cons: Not Vegan, Prices

Honestly I think people from L.A. are spoiled. I only say that because many states outside of California, Oregon or Colorado don't even have vegetarian restaurants let alone vegan restaurants. I live in Northern California now and we actually have more access to organic, local and vegan food than the average shopper in L.A. but since it's a smaller town, we only have vegetarian not vegan restaurants. Yes it would be nice if the world was vegan and I pray someday it will be, but when I choose to eat outside of my home, I accept that I am not necessarily walking into a vegan zone, and I will support vegetarian restaurants who are ethical because they still do not serve flesh, "bone broths" or gelatin.

Heaven on Earth! - Edit
I love this restaurant and the joining food market.
Read moreSo many of my favourite food items are available for purchase in the store its hard to decide what to buy.
The small but busy adjoining restaurant has a extensive menu and we couldnt decide what to eat! I ended up going for the Nutburger Supreme and my boyf went with the Zorro Burrito that came with a soup of the day (lentil and vege). Both meals were massive and so tasty! Our waitress was very friendly and assumed we wanted vegan(which was wonderful to hear). Both meals could have been made non vegan (with cow cheese), so be sure to confirm vegan, however most everything is easily vegan - and many Gluten Free options!
If this restaurant and food market was completely vegan I'd give it 5 stars but I give it 4 because its not.
