Bland food, stale chips, and rude/condescening service - Edit
I was so excited to try vegan fish and chips, but the staff member who served me was so condescending and rude from the moment I entered the store that it ended up being one of the worst experiences I had in Edinburgh.
Read moreShe was almost hostile in her passive aggressive tone, not wanting to explain what some of the options were (like when I wanted to clarify whether 'supper' meant chips were included) and rolling her eyes when I ordered a meal deal (telling me with annoyance "We don't hAvE a meal deal"... when it was listed on their board).
Service and food are two separate things, so I still had hope – but to no avail. The option I wanted (vegan fish) wasn't available, so I got the vegan calamari. That was ok, but it was just deep-fried mushrooms, and needed more nori in the batter to give it a touch of oceanic flavour.
The chips, however, were outright bad, which was very surprising. A few reviewers on Google Maps have mentioned they don't taste fresh, and even though they had just been cooked, they didn't – they tasted stale somehow, and were kind of dry and powdery.
The drink I got, which was advertised as a thyme, rosemary, and lavender blend, was actually mostly cinnamon, and not tasty in the slightest. The chocolate had been left out in the heat and had gone white in parts. And although I ordered vegan tartar sauce, none was provided – and neither was the vinegar I'd asked for on the chips – meaning I had to make my way through the stale chips without any flavour (and also not enough salt).
For the amount I paid, absolutely none of it was worth it, and I unfortunately wouldn't go back to give it another go.
Pros: Vegan options in a traditionally non-vegan setting
Cons: Some vegan options not actually available , rude and condescending staff member, not the best food, pretty pricey for what it is

Well served vegan fish - Edit
Ordered vegan fish, it consists on two blocks of tofu marinated and fried. I found them tasty and it was also great that they had vegan sauce options. It was very nice to enjoy a chippy. I would just suggest moving the chocolates to a fridge because inside is very hot and that is why some people complain about the chocolate.

Comfy vegan food - Edit
I ordered vegan fish & chips and a vegan burger through the app Foodstuff. The fish and chips was delicious and really well served (the chips could have been more cooked though). The burger (UnbelievaBurguer) was good but pretty basic and without fries so I ordered sweet potato fries which were really nice. The service was fast and everything had good presentation and was served in sustainable materials.

Good side of average - Edit
Lots of vegan options which is great. Tofish was ok but needed more nori and scampi was really lovely texture and well cooked but quite flavourless. Chips were grand but it was all a bit cold.

Really nice to have a vegan menu at a chippy - Edit
Direct opposite Haymarket station, I would strongly recommend to any vegan looking to grab a meal while waiting 30 minutes for a train. I had the tofish and garden burger, which were both tasty and reasonably priced.

Solid food - Edit
I had a connection to make at Haymarket station, and not a lot of time to grab some food. I ordered via their ChatFood on my first train, and it was ready right on time for me to drop by and pick it up. I had the vegan chicken burger and chips and it was good!

Delicious takeaway for a good price - Edit
I had ordered online from the Marchmont shop but went into this one for takeaway. There's lots of vegan options and vegan desserts. The food is very good and the prices are very reasonable. The staff were great even though they were extremely busy. I got some free vegan fruit pastilles with my takeaway too.

Amazing Tofish! - Edit
I am regular at this restaurant. I am always amazed by the growing amount of options. My favourite is the Tofish and chips, followed closely by the vegan Battered Sausage. There is always a vegan option on the specials board. Gluten Free options are available too.

Separate vegan menu - Edit
We ordered via website and picked it up from the shop. It came very handy during the lockdown. Interesting options like crab cakes or calamari (all vegan of course).
