This restaurant was fantastic, truly a very good meal and we tried everything. - Edit
Really the food was great and it was the first time in over two years that I had any type of cheese, cheese plate was really great and fun.

Nice Cafe - Edit
Chose this place for the GF options for my daughter. The cafe was low on inventory after being closed for Christmas weekend. She would have liked her breakfast sandwich better if it wasn’t on the nut and seed bread. Definitely recommend checking this place out. Should be great when open for regular business hours. #Veganuary

Worse vegan food I had - Edit
We cane here for breakfast. Had the breakfast sandwich and the quiche.
Read moreThe sandwich was so dry and hard to chew, without any dressing, the meat, egg and cheese where overmichowaved, made McDonald's sandwiches look like 5 start. Quiche tasted bad and took a long time to come out. Also the latte was cold.
Don't like writing bad reviews for vegan restaurants, but they need to do much better than this.
Cons: Microwaved food, dry.

Disappointing - Edit
I was excited to try this spot and really gave it a real chance but it was not a good experience. To start, the cafe said it was open online but when we showed up it had a sign that said it was closed and to join them at the restaurant. Annoying but determined, we went to the Fullerton location. The location does not yet seem finished? We didn't mind though and ordered to sit outside. I got the bagel and carrot lox with the house made cream cheese. The bagel was stale and not toasted. I was really surprised that they didn't toast the bagel whatsoever. There was barely any cream cheese on it, i couldn't taste it when eating the bagel. The breakfast burrito was okay but bland. The avocado toast was surprisingly the best thing as the bread they used was great. They also forgot the quiche which ended up being pretty good, but there was no crust. Overall would NOT go here over all the other vegan spots in town.

Small menu, bland food - Edit
Spent a couple days in Chicago so I figured I could try each meal at a different place. I was looking forward to Fancy Plates but when I got there, the menu was small and the food was bland. After touching parts of the subway and such to get there, I wanted to wash my hands but they won't let customers access the restroom so hand sanitizer had to suffice. Decided on the breakfast burrito when my first choice wasn't available. The salsa helped but there wasn't much given. No napkins on the tables so I would have had to leave my table to go back inside to ask for one and when you dine alone, the risk is always someone will take your table (it was tight that day) or someone will bus your table so I decided to go napkin-less. Overall, I wish I had went somewhere else.

Great neighborhood place - Edit
Dinners are gourmet, mid-price, but really special, experimental food. Cafe service much homier, quieter, and simpler. Carrot lox is good. Their nut cheeses are excellent. Recommended. Follow on Instagram for supper clubs. Great place!

Try their croissants! - Edit
The croissants are flaky and crispy outside, the interior is layered and soft! I had the pleasure to try all three flavors: classic, almond, chocolate. I have to say the baker knows what is a proper croissant and tries his/her best to make it vegan.

Cozy, friendly & quality - Edit
Prices are so reasonable that we each treated ourselves to the breakfast sandwich & a quiche. While both tasted really good, the sandwich was incredibly tasty & satisfying. It was practically perfect in it's simplicity. We had brunch at noon and felt satisfied & energized until dinner, even after spending the afternoon enjoying holiday windows on Michigan Ave. The cafe was small & cozy, filled with friendly staff & customers. The ambiance was similar to a quaint European bistro. We are going to keep an eye on their special reservation-only dinner menus!

Fabulous Greek “family style” meal! - Edit
We didn’t order from the menu, but went to one of Kevin’s special weekend meals. It was awesome! A mezze platter with freshly baked pita, saganaki (flaming vegan mozzarella), and a spanokopita—followed by a chocolate-raspberry torte. All of it amazing!

Try Chef Kevin’s weekend evening dinners - Edit
Chef Kevin owns this place. The cafe food is fine. But the really special part of this place is the multi course gourmet weekend dinners that he prepares. He is a master of many cuisines and has interpreted them for vegans. Also, he makes his own gourmet cheeses. Delicious!

Tiny menu - Edit
The breakfast menu consists of like 3 sandwiches and one or two other items. However the breakfast sandwich was amazing. The sausage on it was so flavorful and had a good texture and they managed to make just egg actually taste like eggs instead of beans. If I lived nearby it would definitely become a quick stop on my way to work in the morning for a cup of coffee and breakfast sandwich to go pretty often.

We stopped here after touring most of Chicago and were hungering for some delicious plant based fare.

Fancy plants cafe has a very homey small town vibe with a hint of elegance and is quite well received by a self proclaimed 5 year vegan foodie snob😉
Let’s talk about the food!
Ok so we grabbed two coffees, one of their bloodied... to...die...for... and a churro donut! Boom! AND, and. We got the vegan carrot lox with a probiotic cashew cheese and the vegan spanakopita. Wow, so soft and flaky it’s simply delish.
The vegan lox was simply to die for. We loved it.
The carrots were super soft and barely even noticeable as carrots. If you didn’t know it was vegan you might have assumed it was actual lox for the bagel.
All in all, great food, friendly staff, and a really cool vibe. Def recommend.
Pros: All vegan menu, Lots of flavor, Friendly staff
Cons: Little far from china town😉, Wish we knew about it earlier, None other

Worth the trip! - Edit
I was staying in the South Loop so this was by no means a convenient place to go for breakfast, but boy am I glad I made the trip! I had a bagel with cashew cream cheese and smoked carrot lox, which was all the right combinations of textures and flavors. It was also pretty filling. I also had a donut, which was just ok (baked, not fried, and a little stale) and the Breakfast Club latte on the server’s recommendation. I’m not usually a latte person but this was very good and complemented the bagel well. I hope I can make it here the next time I’m in Chicago, what a lovely place!

Cozy and warm - Edit
I went here for my birthday. A tradition I have is to "tourture" my dad as they take me to a vegan restaurant. My mom comes willingly. It's the only time he eats vegan the whole year. So Intel him I've added an extra year to his life. Anyways so this year I had him pick between 3 places and he liked the parking potential for here best ( we are from the burbs). I wish I could have taken part of their special 4 course dinner but that was Sunday. They had lots of gluten free options which was great.the menu was small which was nice. Because what they made they did a great job. I had the sunchoke salad and artichoke with lentils. Both were amazing. My mom got the pate and rice balls. That's not what they are called and my Italian mom would be very disappointed that I can't remember the name. She loved it and said the pate tasted almost like real pate. I've never had real pate. The balls were delicious. My dad got the pasta because it looked the most normal. It was just ok. I saw the had macaroons but they were for the dinner tomorrow. But since it was my birthday the waitress Kate ( I only remembered that because she said it 3 times) was super sweet and made me a plate with 2 of them, roasted strawberries and chocolate sauce. They were delicious. I believe the owner came out or maybe it was just the chef and he was also very friendly. I felt like we were regulars. My dad always makes lame jokes that confuses waitresses. And at one point Kate had said I feel like there is a joke coming. She was a treat!

Outstanding - Edit
This restaurant and chef is amazing. I came for lunch and will definitely be back for dinner. Had the breakfast bland coffee that was amazing and the spanakopita which was OMG. Got my son the carrot “lox” bagel and he only got one bite because I finished it. Everything is made from scratch.
