Disappointing - Edit
The restaurant is beautiful. The wait staff were attentive and enthusiastic about the food. And the food was creatively and beautifully presented. Unfortunately, the flavors were not consistently good. We did the tasting menu and enjoyed some things, but other items/plates were just bland and overall our experience was very disappointing. In our 8 days in Portugal (Porto and Lisbon) we had much better meals for half the price.

I’m really surprised this place has such good reviews. The atmosphere is very nice, and the service is good. But the food we had was un-enjoyable albeit very pretty.

The three purées that came with the sausage dish were very bland, and the sausage itself wasn’t great and was very small.
The tofu fish dish was very very bland and smothered in olive oil (literally poured over it like gravy). Admittedly the vegetables were nicely cooked but still way too much oil.
We were also hoping to sit in the garden but weren’t able to.
We were so disappointed in the food, and were very glad we hadn’t paid €50 each for the tasting menu.
I would not recommend this to anyone.

A splendid, personal experience - Edit
One of the best vegan tasting menus that I've had; and I've had a quite a few and paid serious money for them. The service was excellent: attentive but not intrusive, and given how small the operation is, it was possible to have a proper chat. Every one of the tasting menu dishes were great and the portions were just right. Unusually, I'd say that the desserts may even have been the highlight, but all in all it was an excellent experience. I tried two of the wines available as well (a local white and red), and they did not disappoint. To finish, we were served a complimentary glass of port on the occasion of my birthday. Perfect!

A very mixed experience - Edit
This is a lovely restaurant and the service is attentive and friendly. We opted for the tasting menu. We also had the small bread roll which was seriously undercooked and reverted to dough at the slightest pressure. The savoury dishes were mixed - some tasty, although missed a key element (e.g. the tofu dish would really have benefitted from some capers) and some quite poor in my view. Some of the textures were really awful and badly considered. The desserts were both very tasty, although the chocolate mousse was gritty and overly sweet. The absolute star of the show was the "caipirinha" dessert with lime ice cream. It was genuinely one of the nicest desserts I've ever tasted.

Beautiful food, space, and service - Edit
Innovative and delicious food, with incredible white-glove service to match. Everything was delicious! The couple that runs the space clearly loves food and has poured their hearts into this restaurant. While this is a ~nicer~ night out, I would have happily spent more than we paid considering the quality of everything!

This place is seriously amazing. I cannot overstate enough how incredible the entire dinner experience is. The location, the facility, the lighting, plates, every detail is meticulously crafted. This is also translated to the food. The craftsmanship, the artistry, the intentionality is second to none. Every dish was spectacular! The only thing better than the food....were the owners. They are such amazing individuals. They are so kind, genuine, just great people.

While living in Portugal, I tried a few recreation of fish à la lagareiro but plant-based, with tofu, and the one I had at Em Carne Viva was the best so far!

The food at Em Carne Viva is outstanding both from a taste and presentation perspective. Traditional Portugues dishes are veganised with excellent results. The decor and the service are also very good making this a one of a kind experience. Definitely worth a visit.

I loved everything about this restaurant! From the beautiful dinning room to the lovely staff. The tomato rice was absolutely divine. I will definitely came back. In this pandemic time, this place is as safe and secure as it can be, great attention to it and very dedicated staff.

The tomato rice with seitan was probably one of the best meals I ever had.

The staff was extremely nice and everything else was absolutely amazing (chorizo bread, peixinhos da horta, tomato tartare).
The outside garden is also very quiet and pretty
