An Austin vegan staple - Edit
I’ve probably eaten at Citizen around 10 times and it’s Always reliably delicious. From the specials to the standard entrees, the quality doesn’t falter. The nachos are very memorable and something that we have tried making similar versions of at home, which never quite end up as good as the citizen version.

Great service, super tasty food - Edit
I got the veggie noodles - the pecan pesto was outright delicious and the just-egg patty was pretty decent.

Terrible ketchup, pretty bad service, food was just okay - Edit
I really wanted to like this place. It is beautiful inside, with such wonderful decor, and a generally clean and polished appearance.
Read moreThe service that we got was not very good at all. We were left waiting for a really long time to order, and had to flag down the waitress to get ketchup for the fries, to get the bill, and to pay for the bill.
The food itself was okay. The brussels sprouts appetizer was tasty, but they were soft and soggy - they were literally just sitting in maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup of liquid at the bottom of the bowl. The sauce that it came with was delicious, but it just wasn't that great. The Citizen Chili was pretty good, and it had some nice warm flavors and was well seasoned. I wish it had come with something like garlic bread rather than just plain bread with no butter or anything, but that is really just a preference. The Citizen Burger was mediocre, in my opinion. It did not have a ton of flavor, and the texture was quite mushy. The fries tasted old, and I didn't like eating them.
The worst part of all of this was the ketchup. They have 'homemade' ketchup, which is absolutely the worst ketchup I have ever had. It is so vinegary that it burned my mouth.
Pros: Nice atmosphere, Decent chili
Cons: Worst ketchup ever, Mediocre food, Not great service

Lots of choices. - Edit
I really liked the range of choices on the menu, you can eat on the healthy side or the comfort food side and be happy with your options. Queso is good, really enjoyed the veggie noodle dish.

Fresh & Tasty - Edit
Had lunch here, and it was a great experience. Service was quick and friendly, parking was super easy behind the building, and there are lots of healthy options. The restaurant is fully vegan now, which makes it nice. I had the Power Bowl with a Cucumber Mocktail, and both were delicious. I also had the queso and chips as an appetizer, and the queso was just so-so. Nice, spacious environment and I would definitely eat here again.

Excellent! - Edit
We came because we were curious about the JUST egg, which they serve. Everything was very flavorful. We hit a chorizo omelet and the egg and patty sandwich. The servings were plenty but not huge. The service was great. We had a couple questions about the bread (tasty, and we wondered if we could buy it somewhere) and the waitress took time to find out more about it. Highly recommend!

Healthy - Edit
They offer healthy options but not all raw or all vegan. Restaurant is lovely inside but staff is not that friendly or helpful.

Easygoing upscale atmosphere. Delicious vegan brunch—we had pancakes and the breakfast platter of veg sausage, gravy, and kale. Great coffee. Friendly and accommodating service.

Excellent Kids Plate - Edit
We went to Citizen Eatery to celebrate my daughters 1st birthday. She had the kids plate, which was black beans, wilted kale, and cheesy noodles. All plant based! Of everything on the plate, she loves the wilted kale the most. I was so proud to see her grab bunches of it.
Read moreFor a app, we had roasted brussel sprouts. I also had a pulled plant sandwhich, and my wife has a hatch chili burger.
The restaurant was very posh, and unusually empty. The staff was a little distant, and did not warm up to us until the end.
Pros: Great kids plate, Good brussel sprouts
Cons: Cold Staff, Expensive

Returning happy customers - Edit
This is an update on our previous review.
Read morePlenty of vegan options, lots of vegetarian options, they are flexible with gluten free folks and offer paleo friendly meal which are vegan friendly as well. This restaurant is great! And today we tried the veggie noodle pasta (made with zucchini and sweet potato and a vegan pesto. So delicious) and the Assam burger, and Indian inspired burger (not gluten free).
All in all this is one of our favorite vegan friendly brunch spots offering a completely meat free menu. Definitely worth a look.

Not great for Vegans - Edit
This restaurant seems to be focused on vegetarians and added vegan options to be on trend. They don't really know what vegan is. I was told different things about the baked goods being vegan or not. They didn't know what cheese they used. The food was very salty. I was really hoping this place would be great bc I love so close. I went once and won't be back.

Good Vegan Options - Edit
We got the Citizen burger and the power bowl - both were very large servings. Both were yummy, not outstanding but were good. The burger did get a bit mushy towards the end but by then I was so full it was ok. Good vegan options, for that alone I'd visit again.

Ok but not great - Edit
Citizen Eatery has a cool, chill vibe, but the food falls a little short. I had a bit of the pulled jackfruit sandwich and it was alright but not amazing. I've had better. And the burger was soft and uninspiring and just sort of mushed everywhere with each bite. The sever was friendly, but that wasn't enough to make me want to return frequently. I'd try it again to see if it was a fluke, but neither my husband nor I were impressed.
