One of my favourite places in London - Edit
I have been going to Black Cat for years, since it was Pogo Cafe. It was always good, but my last visit after a bit of a gap was better than ever, simple food, but great. Very highly recommended.

Scrumptious, filling, affordable - Edit
I had heard lots of good things about this place, but my personal experience at the Black Cat exceeded my expectations.
Read moreWith two friends, I went for lunch, and we got to try their breakfast/brunch menu. We ordered a Breakfast Muffin and two Full English Breakfasts.
The portions were huge and rather cheap compared to London standards, but most importantly, everything was very tasty.
We ended up spending quite a lot of time there until we decided we wanted to try their Polenta Almond Orange Cake, which was very good as well.
From now on, I will recommend Black Cat to anyone looking for a good and affordable meal in East London. See you again soon!

Cute cooperative with excellent vegan options - Edit
I’ve been bringing all my guests here when they come to stay with me in London for a few years now and watch it slowly turn into their fave new eatery too. Really non pretentious, well priced food and lovely staff.

Great food and ethos but portion sizes... - Edit
I love the Black Cat. The food is tast an the ethos is great. I had the Fishless & Chips which was very tasty and was also lucky enough to have a taste of the Lasagna Bolognese and some desserts. Everything was really tasty and the portion sizes were decent.
Read moreWe arrived at 6.30ish and I saw some dishes being served that were quite a bit bigger than the ones we were served as food ran out unfortunately.

Dog-friendly, huge portions, always delicious! - Edit
We’ve been coming to Black Cat for years, and the food is consistently delicious and offers great value for money with huge portions. We normally come for the breakfast at the weekend, although sometimes 11am is a bit too late for us. Lunch and dinner are also great - stand outs are the “fish” and chips, lasagna and beef-style burger and chips... the chips are soooo good! A number of times, we’ve come here with dogs and the staff are always so welcoming and ready with a bowl of water - so easy to visit with a four-legged friend. Highly recommend!!!

Went a few times and was always happy. The food is tasty, with good portions, and relative to London, at a good price.

Nice lunch, large portions. - Edit
We had a nice lunch. Cheap: £8,5 for main dish.
Read moreWe were too stuffed for desserts, although there were some nice looking cakes at the counter.
It seemed mostly frequented by locals. Tables pretty close together, and when more full, lots of noise, not really relaxed.
Unfortunately the restaurant is not accessible: there was one large step to get in, which made it a bit difficult with wheelchair. Also no accessible toilet.
A pity, since they were closed for renovations earlier. Why not make it accessible at the same time?

My Favourite Place! - Edit
@blackcathackney is my absolute number 1 favourite spot 🐱 I have been going as often as possible since moving to London and FINALLY got the their fishless & chips last night! It was absolutely delicious, and my pescitarian pal described it as 'the best fish I've ever eaten' which is probably the best review you could ask for!

best value lunch in London - Edit
I love the food here, huge portions for reasonable prices. Everything I ate here was so good and healthy, lots of veg with all the dishes. The only problem is that seating is disorganised so when it’s busy for brunch on the weekend it gets very frustrating, you queue to order your food first then you wait for a seat. Should introduce some order in there, but any other time it’s chilled.

Not the black cat cafe you knew - Edit
HappyCow is forcing me to give two stars for a fully vegan place. So be it, but this is not the Black Cat cafe you know form the past, and the owners also distance themselves from it. I would have much more preferred to keep the old style and food choices and staff.
