Amazing vegan menu - Edit
I rolled out of this restaurant as there were so many great options to choose from! A lovely atmosphere, beer garden and friendly. My husband is not vegan but he also had great options. Amazing!

Slow service but nice food in the end - Edit
Visited especially for the vegan menu posted on social media. Service was a downside to the visit considering it wasn’t busy when we went, unfortunately it seems others have experienced a similar problem. At times it felt as though we were forgotten about. About 40minutes of our time spent at the restaurant was spent waiting for basics like drinks, menus and cutlery (mushroom stroganoff served without a spoon, waited much longer than acceptable for one when asked the staff)
Read moreAll that being said, the food served to us was delicious. Creamy mushrooms were shared with a non-veg eater who said they wouldn’t be able to tell it was vegan if they didn’t know
Will be visiting again for the food quality but will be baring in mind the lack of service.

Weird visit - Edit
Now, granted we booked in for 3:40 on a Sunday when they stopped serving at 4. We did ring ahead to place our order, and they took the booking.
Read moreBut I just can’t describe it. The vibes were completely off. We were so excited seeing a pub that had so many vegan options, but it fell flat upon entering.
No music, staff just sat around chatting. Due to the zero music and atmosphere, we just had to listen to the borderline painful scraping of plates. At one point we said if we hadn’t pre-ordered, upon entering and sitting down we would have bought a drink and left. It was just uncomfortable. I’ve never experienced anything like it before but me and my husband both felt it.
It was also uncomfortably hot, so much so that I tried to move seats on the table to see if that helped but it didn’t. Definitely needed to open a window or invest in some fans.
Food arrived and it was nice. We had the vegan Wellington as they didn’t had the vegan nut roast that we ordered on the phone. It was nice enough, if just lacked any wow factor. All in all, wouldn’t return.

Good find in Darlo, but slow service - Edit
2018: Vegan menu nice separate items listed for vegans and staff understand and ask for clarification during ordering. Food a little over priced perhaps for what it is. Burgers look good. Mushrooms in chestnut sauce very good as a starter. In winter nice to sit in the main room, in summer always get seated in the conservatory area which is hot. Feel rather weird standing at the bar for a long time to order drinks or pay - the bar area seems very busy at weekends. Some of the chips strangely are not vegan, these were taken off our order without asking us (although the person they were for was not even vegetarian), so when the meal came without chips (they had run out of vegan fries) they were happy to make some of the (non-vegan) chunky chips. Would have been nice to have been consulted about the menu change.
Read more2023: Came on a Sunday. Incredibly slow- 1hr10mins for the starters and then another 40mins for the main. Conservatory area too hot in summer. Roast potatoes and (what must have been) parsnip were cold and congealed, I left them. Side portion of other veg barely cooked and no serving spoon. Wouldn’t really recommend on a Sunday at least

Lots of vegan options, great portion sizes! - Edit
If I hadn't known about the vegan menu in advance (from looking at HappyCow) I wouldn't have known to ask for it, because it wasn't mentioned anywhere. But I was so happy when I asked for it: there were at least three decent options for every course, including Teeside's famous Parmo - done vegan!
Read moreFor starter I had creamy garlic mushrooms on a toasted baguette, and then had the vegan parmo for main, which was a huge portion of 3 or 4 large goujons covered in bechamel and cheese, accompanied by chips and a side salad. I was too full to have a pudding!
Pros: Wide range of options, Huge portions, Good value for money
Cons: Vegan menu not prominently displayed - had to ask

Excellent - well worth a visit - Edit
Separate vegan menu with more than the usual chilli and burger. Nice interior - also seating outside.

Definitely recommend this gem of a pub if you are in the area.
I congratulated the chef on his efforts - so nice to have a proper choice of starters, mains and desserts

A separate vegan section on the menu made ordering a breeze. The food was very good. Tasty and plenty of it. The staff are friendly and the service quite quick. I will be back next time I am in the area.
