I love this place! - Edit
Their Whoopi pies are super good. They have lots of pastry options like mini cakes and mini pies. You can get a custom cake, my fiancé got me a red velvet cake from here and it was the best vegan cake I’ve ever had

A vegan cafe and bakery serving delicious comfort food, located on Portland's trendy Alberta Street. - Edit
We arrived in Portland on a cold and wet day and were in desperate need of some comfort food. In my research on vegan food options I had discovered Back to Eden cafe and bakery, which is located on the trendy Alberta street on Portland's east side. It turned out to be just what the doctor ordered.
Read moreIt didn't take too long to make our choices, despite the menu have a lot of tasty sounding options. I went for the biscuits and gravy, as I said we were looking for comfort food, and Karen opted for the root vegetable hash. The area around Alberta street is a very diverse community so waiting for our food to arrive gave us the opportunity to do some serious people watching. The arrival of our delicious dinner brought our focus back to our rumbling tummies.
Despite being full from our dinner we were tempted by the scones and somehow we managed to squeeze them in. And to make matter worst we stopped by the bakery counter and ended up buying and eating a very rich peanut and dark chocolate bar. We were beyond full so we headed out to walk off our excesses. The weather had picked and we were even treated to some brief glimpses of sunlight.
Pros: Great food, Opens late, Plenty of seating
Cons: Limited menu

The best vegan ice cream & sweets! - Edit
Went on a hot & beautiful PNW day! Got the mint chip ice cream. It was probably the most refreshing ice cream I’ve had! Absolutely delicious! Also got a Lavender Lemon Poppyseed cupcake. It was so good! Nice and moist. The store is divided with a dessert & pastry side, and a restaurant side. Only tried the desserts, but the food looked great!

Lived up to my expectations! - Edit
I was in Portland visiting for the holiday weekend and I have heard about this place and was excited to try it. Since becoming vegan, I crave a good breakfast and this was exactly what I was looking for to satisfy my breakfast cravings. I got there early right when they opened, and I'm glad I did because by the time I left there was a line out the door. The food was phenomenal. I had the breakfast sandwich and tried my friend's dish, the biscuits and gravy. Both were fantastic! The biscuits and gravy were savory and so delicious and the tomato jam they put on the breakfast sandwich was so good, like nothing I've ever tasted before. We also got a chocolate donut to go and that was delicious as well. Even though the restaurant was packed and there was only one server, the service was excellent, she was quick, friendly, and attentive. The food was fantastic, and the portions were good sized. I can't wait to come back the next time I'm in Portland.

wowzers. try the biscuits & gravy! - Edit
I’ve been vegan for 15 years and I must be a glutton for punishment, because I always try the biscuits & gravy at vegan establishments, and I always hate it! But the idea of it sounds so delicious, so I guess I keep on trying. Back to eden delivered, big time! First visit I got the chili hash & my girlfriend got the biscuits & gravy. The chili hash was amazing but the biscuits were out of this world. So naturally we went back the next day for more of the same! My theory is that these biscuits work because they are gluten free. So often the vegan gravy is flour based and gluten full, and so are the biscuits. These back to eden biscuits stay somewhat crispy on the outside and soft on the inside; and hold up well to the pool of gravy they’re suspended in. The gravy is really delicious and flavorful, and the sausage patty is also delicious, sausage-flavored but not salty or overly flavored, and also somewhat crispy. The textures are amazing as are the flavors. So often vegan biscuits and gravy just end up being a pile of pasty slop, but not here! Also comes with a side of potatoes and kale to round out the dish.
Read moreThe servers here are so nice and the atmosphere is clean, with a minimal-rustic aesthetic. I wish I lived in the area!
The baked goods are something else as well. We tried rose-pistachio cupcake, and the chocolate peanut butter brownie. Both delicious and not dry at all, full of flavors, not just sugar. Yum yum yum.

Great pizza. Best mozzarella ever. I love the dipping sauces for the breaksticks. Didn't have the chance to try their desserts but it looked delicious. It's not downtown so we didn't have a hard time finding parking...although we did go on a Monday. Service was slow though.

Great Food! Great Service! Great Mission! - Edit
I was delighted to find this place on my first visit to Portland. The fact that everything on menu, in the cafe and bakery, is both gluten-free and vegan is awesome. With so many delightful foods and treats to choose from, it was difficult to decide what to order. I chose the breakfast scramble. It was hands-down the best scramble that I have every had--wow! You need to order it. The service was great, and the atmosphere is relaxed. My only disappointment is their lack of healthier meal options for those wishing to avoid added oil and refined sugars. I look forward to eating here every time I am in town.

Will come back again - Edit
Ordered the breakfast sandwich with biscuits and gravy on the side. The sandwich came with a side of roasted potatoes and kale (I’m not a fan of kale so I didn’t care much for the kale but tastes well with the gravy from my added side). To tie it all up I was sipping on an iced americano with almond milk. I indulged in a lemon and pistachio donut that I enjoyed later at home. Overall the meal was satisfying and delicious. I am going to come back and try out there lunch menu
