Positive experience, would go back

It was a busy Thursday night at Aunty Menas. We didn't make a reservation but that wasn't an issue.

Please note: lots of oil is used. It's definitely not for the 'healthy' vegans out there.

Entree
- Spring rolls (3 per serve)
Yummy, with a tasty dipping sauce.
Would recommend.

- Satay (5 per serve)
Slices of gluten (?) With a satay dipping sauce. It was awkward to dip the slice.
Wouldn't recommend.

Main
- Hokien Mee
Yummmm, delicious. Large serving sontake a container to take home left overs.
Would recommend.

- 'Chicken' Laksa
Overall a delicious meal, only con is there was too much mock chicken.

Pros: Lots of options, Attentive staff/ fast service, Large meals / value for money

Cons: Too many options, some are quite similar

Delicious Vegan Malaysian Food

Want comforting, delicious, inexpensive vegan food? Then you have to go here. With so many different options, the only thing you have to ask yourself is what you should order. I can vouch for the "chicken" laksa, as well as the satay skewers. I would have tried more if I had a second stomach... But we will definitely be going back any time we are in Wellington!

Pros: Delicious food, Lots to choose from

Authentic and delicious

Came here on a cold rainy day and ordered the tom yum noodles and the laksa with noodles. Also ordered the dumplings as a starter. We were hungry and cold and these noodles were the perfect thing to warm us up and we left very full and happy. The food is full of classic flavours - the tom yum was perfectly zingy and the laksa was rich and coconut-y. I wish I lived in Wellington so I could have Aunty Mena's all the time! Service was also friendly and warm. Will definitely come back next time I'm in town.

Quick and easy

Found Aunty Mena's by chance walking around Cuba St.

Had spring rolls and dumplings. At 8 o'clock on a Friday night we didn't have to wait long. The place was busy with lots of diners and plenty of choice on the menu.

The owner confirmed they were all vegan. The food was oily but what do you expect for deep fried spring rolls and fried dumplings?

They were both delicious. Wish I had more time to try other items on the menu.

Pros: Cheap and extensive menu

Cons: Car parking could be difficult

Favorite place in NZ?

I'm still deciding if this should win the award of best place in New Zealand or it should go to Sunflower Thai in Auckland.

Food is delicious and actually cheap.

Went twice and for the second time they forgot us and we got a late take way.

Do try the curry noodles, it's outstanding!

Pros: Delicious , Well priced

Cons: Can be a bit crowded, your order can be late

Yum!

Good value veg meal. The noodles we had were delicious, although a little spicier than expected (not a problem for us but something to be wary of- we had planned to feed some to my child).

The deep fried starters were oily but this was not unexpected, and both my kids absolutely loved the ‘drumsticks’

Pros: Good value, Tasty!

Cons: Busy restaurant

Not that good

The food is very oily and our plate M11 Chow Mee was very spicy and not very tasteful.
We also had spring rolls and dumplings as a starter, same conclusion.

Delicious meal at Aunty Mena’s ❤️

Had such a nice meal while in Wellington at Aunt Mena’s - lots of fresh veggies - everything is made to order - and really good veggie balls, veggie slice, and tofu. Had the Lanska. Highly recommend.

A classic vegan staple in Wellington

Tasty vegan dishes, huge portions, cheap prices, and friendly staff. I would highly recommend the faux chicken laksa.

An amazing place to go with friends or by yourself for a cheap and yummy meal. A very social and open environment with large tables able to seat big groups of people.

A nice place to meet other vegans too because Aunty Mena's is 100% vegan.

However, if you like a more private eating environment this place isn't for you.

Pros: 100% vegan, amazing food, big portions, cheap

Cons: A bit claustrophobia, no privacy while eating

Essential

This place has a lot of nice memories for me and I’ve decided it the most consistently good veg*n restaurant in Wellington, with a wide variety of delicious dishes. My three recent visits had no disappointments. From the deep fried dumplings, vegie balls, nuggets and wontons to the nasi goreng, Hokkien noodles, laksa (right balance of spices and coconut) were all tasty and beautifully prepared. I did miss ice cream on the menu. Always an essential visit when I’m in Wellington.

Pros: Wide variety of consistently delicious food

gluten free Laksa!

Was missing Vietnamese food so came here one afternoon for something Asian. Gf options are limited but the laksa with rice noodles hit the spot. Would have preferred more veg but it tasted delicious!

A burst of flavour!

Aunty Mena’s is a vegan/vegetarian Malaysian eatery. There are so many choices - I had dumplings and laksa, and it was sooo good! Good, fresh ingredients and they know how to use the spices. This is a casual place, the interior not special or cosy, service is quick, good value.

Huge and varied selection of vegan food. Mix if veggies and mock meat/fish/chicken. Tasty, spicy, generous portions.
No credit card - but an ATM over the road.

Love it

Can't go wrong with Mena's. Cheap as chips, big portions, huuuge menu (a little overwhelming). My personal fave is the "pork" steamed buns. We lived in Wellington for 5 months and visited on a few occasions, it never disappointed.

Pros: All vegan, Steamed buns!

Cons: Sometimes service is slow, Menu overwhelming

delicious!

We ordered dumplings (pretty good), tum yum soup, and Laksa with veggie chicken and noodles (both delicious) we felt so good afterwards. The food was warm and spicy, and the service was friendly. Not a place to go if you are looking for a fine dining/cozy atmosphere, but such good food!

Very Good Food

The sign says vegetarian and vegan, but I was informed by the proprietor that all is vegan. Had some great dumplings followed by a pot of chrysathymum tea, which was excellent. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food was excellent and service was spot on. Didn't have to wait long for my food and the servers were friendly. It's located in a very central and lively neighbourhood. Nice to know there are vegan options outside of Portland, OR.

Pros: Good menu.

Cons: None at the moment. :-)

Excellent noodles

I went here twice during my 4 day stay. The first time I was disappointed as I went for a tofu rice main. When I was served it the tofu was fried (which the menu didn't specify) and that sort of ruined it for me because I don't like tofu fried. The second time I went for the chow mee noodlw/mock chicken main and it was excellent.

Pros: Excellent noodle dishes

Cons: The tofu is fried(does not specify on menu)

Love this place

I've been meaning to try here as there is a frequent que to get a seat and that normally means it's a good place to eat. The staff are very friendly and so is the menu, very easy to read and choose giving you the popular choices highlighted with a smiley face. I had the curry noodle with the fake meat my husband had the laksa and both where amazing. We will be back for sure as everything on the menu is vegan. Love it and cheap too with big portions oh and the roti was yum filling and thicker than your normal roti which was great value for money. Again the staff where lovely it's warm and comfortable not fancy but hey it's all about the food at the end of the day!!

Pros: all options are vegan , cheap, big portions

Cons: none I can think of
