Spicy Creamy Ramen

I try ramen everywhere I go and just when I thought Bakersfield had no redeeming qualities, I discovered this place on a recent visit... The Spicy Creamy Ramen hit like three different spots! 👍👍

Pros: So many options

Cons: Restaurant didn't look like it's doing well :(

Nice vegan find

Lots of menu choices here. Was not real hungry so only had miso soup, spring rolls and papaya salad. I like the soup. The spring rolls were good, more lettuce than I’ve seen in rolls before.
The papaya salad was good and spicy.
Our waitress was very nice too.

Diverse, delicious, with healthy options

Considering how common it is for restaurants that attempt a large and varied menu to be unable to pull it all off, this place is a pleasant exception. Everything we sampled was tasty, and thankfully the greens were not overcooked. Being on a road trip eating restaurant food for 3 days straight, we felt grateful to have some simple and healthy options to balance out the naughty fried stuff, and you can get it all here. They say they use some ingredients, too.

Unfortunately their takeout packaging was mostly styrofoam, so consider dining in or bringing your own takeout containers.

Cons: Does not use eco-friendly takeout packaging

Delicious, Big Menu

Everything is vegan, and there are multiple cuisines to choose from: Thai, Chinese, and Japanese. I didn’t even know soy shrimp existed, but it’s tasty as tempura or as firecracker shrimp! My mom loved her drunken noodles too. It seems like a small business, which gives me another reason to stop by.

Pros: All vegan, Big selection, Good prices

It was okay

We were really looking forward to trying this place after seeing so many good reviews. We ordered To Go which took about 20 mins. We ordered the Stuff Mushrooms and Crispy Wontons as appetizers. I was expecting the mushrooms to be small ones stuff but it was a huge portobello with stuff on top. The portobello itself didn’t have any seasoning but the topping was good. Unfortunately the mushroom overpowered the topping. The Crispy Wontons were amazing. We didn’t even use the dip it came with because it tasted so good on its own.

I wanted to try the sushi so we got the mix vegetable and the beet rolls. The rice was not sushi rice. It was just plain rice and there was a lot of it. It overpowered the inside.

For our entrees we got Chow Mein with Tofu and Spicy Eggplant with Tofu. Both were really good. I only wish they had more tofu!

Overall we wouldn’t eat there again. We rarely get to eat out since we don’t live in Bakersfield and there are other vegan places we enjoy more. I feel sad saying that since the people working were so nice.

In response to another review that mentioned the fishtank: I suspect all the decor including the fishtank came from the previous business that was there.

Good pad thai

The pad thai was great, everything else we had was not. Plus they have a fish tank... The air was set to 80F and we were ROASTING in there. They have a "B" Department of Health warning sign on the front door.

The sushi is the worst I've had, logs of mushy white rice (not sushi rice) served warm and weird.

The curry is a salty soup, and the king oyster miso ramen sounds good but was just like drinking hot water.

Pros: Vegan

Cons: Mediocre food, Fish tank, HOT inside

Another 100% Vegan Restaurant in Bakersfield!

I was very excited to find out about this new vegan Asian fusion restaurant from Bakersfield vegan Facebook group and knew I had to visit and show support. The new restaurant is located in the from Shangri-La Asian Bistro & Bar building but luckily, there is signage with the new restaurant name on the windows to make it easy for customers to find.

Upon entering the restaurant, we were warmly greeted by a staff member who asked if we were dining in or taking our food to go. Since we had a prior engagement, we decided to take our food to go. As I opened the menu. I was in awe of the variety of Chinese, Japanese, and Thai Asian cuisine as well as desserts and smoothie bowls.

After taking time to review the menu, I decided to order appetizers of fried wontons with vegan cream cheese and spinach. Although I had planned to order an appetizer of Enoki with bacon which is grilled Enoki mushroom wrapped with vegan bacon but unfortunately, the bacon they used wasn't vegan so they've pulled it from the menu at this time.

For my main dish, I had pad see ew with tofu, hubby ordered yellow curry, and he got beef and broccoli and vegetable fried rice for my mom-in-law.

The staff member told that they're out of orange chicken since because they were extremely busy last night which is a good thing considering this restaurant is newly open. Hubby asked if they was nuts in his curry and was told there was no nut in the curry.

Our food order was quickly rung up and the staff member said the food would be ready in fifteen minutes. I especially liked that when we returned to the restaurant to pick up our food, the staff member brought the food to our car which was a nice and unexpected example of great customer service.

The food was given in good portions, was flavorful, and delicious. Of all the food we had, I especially liked the vegan cream cheese wontons since I haven't found a place that make them since becoming vegan in 2009. In addition, although I love eating pad see ew from other restaurants, Asian Vegan Bistro sets itself apart in reference to the big chunks of tofu they add to the dish.

I love that this restaurant is 100% vegan and that the staff are so transparent with their mission to have a fully vegan restaurant and not have any ingredients that contains animals on their menu or in their food items.
