Worth the walk up a hill

This was my favourite meal in Ubud. I'd been doing the rounds of the vegan cafes and Alchemy really stood out. Beautiful venue, fantastic selection of dishes, so fresh and tasty food, lovely and prompt service and good prices.
I only regret that I went there on my last day in Ubud. Will definitely eat here more often on my next visit to Bsli.

Pros: High standards in raw food, Creative & fresh, Lots of choices

Cons: Very busy road to walk along and uphill

Great Raw Vegan Food

I've never seen so many amazing options for raw vegan food. The dishes all taste really great even though they are not huge portions but they're still quite filling. A great experience for anyone who is in to raw food. It's one of the best places I've ever seen. It's a large place and it's very popular with westerners and tourists.

Lunch Time

Came here for lunch and had the Nacho Salad and PB&J Smoothie. The nacho salad was good but a lot spicier that i expected it would be. The smoothie was very nice and filling, however with chunks of strawberry at the bottom that would block the straw and that I couldn't get out to eat.

Average.

Alchemy is an aesthetically pleasing cafe, however the food is fairly average in taste. The customer service was also lacking the usual Balinese overt friendliness.

Pretentious atmosphere, mediocre food

Alchemy's food is pretty mediocre. If you've never had raw vegan, it could seem better than it is. They are unsuccessful in mastering the great challenges of raw vegan cooking--texture was poor, the nut based creams too heavy, everything was really salty, and a mint-chocolate dessert I tried tasted as if it were simply filled with mint flavored coconut oil. Another point is that there are no Balinese or Balinese-inspired dishes on the menu--odd.

The restaurant looks like "Instagram-in-real-life", meaning it feels phony and pretentious. While the food was just "ok", the atmosphere was uncomfortable and shallow. Many patrons were rude, haughty, loud, and imposing. People were parading themselves around as if they wanted everyone to know which level of enlightenment they attained in this morning's yoga class, as well as how much they spent on yoga clothes. It is perhaps more a place to be seen than it is anything else. Felt exclusionary and to cater to elitist tourism.

Pros: mostly vegan (honey), moderate price

Cons: horrible vibe, salty food, awkward service

Organic food

Organic And tasty raw food in a nice enviroment . Good salads and cakes are really delicious . Look at the ingredients because they put honey inside most of them .
The price is a little bit expensive

Great Flavours

I tried the BLT and the coconut bacon was amazing! So smoky and a great selection of ingredients.
The Buddha bowl was a great generous serve and the dressing was very tasty.
I also tried to Nachos with homemade corn chips and the salad was full of flavour.

Pros: the coconut bacon on BLT, The virgin Mojito

Cons: service was a bit slow even though it wasn't very , a few of the menu items we wanted to try were sold

Good Raw, Great Potential

Overall the food is good, but not great like some other raw places. Portion sizes are small so you have to order a lot to fill up.

Pros: Lots of desserts, Good taste

Cons: Small portions, Nothing mind-blowingly delicious

Resto pour yogis.

Le restaurant propose tout un choix de plats appétissants et un salade bar bien fourni. Ambiance un peu clichée de resto pour yogis.

life changing food

I must admit that this title doesn't simply apply to alchemy itself but it contributes the most to it
Alchemy is to blame for my addiction to kale chips and coconut water kefir
And if you're ready to fall from whichever believes you've got - try the coconut bacon!!

Delicioius

On our VegVoyages "Vegin' out in the Island of Gods" trip, many of us ate at Alchemy. GREAT food! I had the strawberry banana ice cream, quiche and chai truffle bar. The raw quiche was amazing! One of the best raw quiches I have ever tasted. The ice cream was good, basically frozen fruit ice cream and the little chai truffle bar was very tasty. Great place and I would totally recommend it for anyone looking for tasty raw food in Ubud.

Pros: excellent food, good portion size, lots of choices

delicious and raw

Several members of our VegVoyages tour group wanted to go here on our night off as they have ice cream and none of us were disappointed by Alchemy. We came for ice cream, but stayed for dinner. Everyone loved having fresh and organic raw food after so much cooked Indonesian food. As a group, we tried nearly all the main entrees (quiche, BLT, rolls, etc) as well as make your own salads. The desserts were heavenly too. A couple of people got juices too as they have a long list of available drinks. And it was super convenient that everyone was given their own running bill to keep (and it's only expensive in comparison to local prices). A definite winner in all our books.

Pros: fresh raw vegan food, separate bills, clean and friendly

hmmm...

not sure about this place. loved their juices and desserts. salad was yummy too. boyfriend got the raw BLT which he said was very tasty. the thing i am not sure about is the vibe there. i am a happy person. no one really seemed very happy there. first place in bali where i wasn't greeted by staff. we were standing in the middle obviously looking confused but no one was really interested. basically you go up to each counter, salad bar, juice bar and dessert bar separately and order each and they give you a running bill. customers were on the very end of the kooky vegan scale. which is fine but it wouldn't kill you to smile. so so. loved the down to earth chain way more.

So yummy and healthy

Alchemy was very near the hotel we stayed in so I ended up going there a lot and. The salad bar was very nice but mostly what kept me coming back mostly was all the delicious smoothies, sweets and ice creams. My favorite was the ice cream called Mango Tango which had such a rich taste of perfectly ripe mangoes topped with a raspberry sauce

Pros: Yummy raw food, Healthy, Nice relaxed place

Cons: A bit expensive

Excellent Raw Vegan cafe

Excellent Raw Vegan cafe, has a juice bar with an extensive menu of amazing fresh juices. The salad bar is the perfect way to spend lunch, with a salad bowl costing around Rp35000 which includes leafy greens and 4 toppings, additional toppings were around Rp7500 from memory. Great quality, and fresh, clean, with a great atmosphere.
The raw deserts are to die for! The raw lemon coconut cake was a favorite of mine.
Enjoy!

Pros: Fresh and clean, Great value, Excellent atomsphere and friendly staff

Good Raw food place but overpriced

They only have a salad bar, deserts and fresh juices. All in good quality but the service is very bad. I had to keep running behind people to get something and nothing was explain to me. The staff seems pretty lazy and don't bother to serve you. The juice is good but they use centrifugal juicer I think. Additional food for take away is totally over priced since only tourist will be able to afford it. Outside terrace next to noisy street. The place seem to attract a strange sort of customers. I didn't like the crowd there, very pretentious and arrogant. Will not go there again because you can get nice juice in a better place. Raw black forest cake was tasty though.

Pros: good quality (organic), very healthy options for raw foodies, nice raw desserts

Cons: bad service, overpriced, weird people

Quite new raw food restaurant with an amazing salad bar with a gazillion choices. Great green juices and a fridge full of yummy treats. Good selection of retail as well. Did a colonic here with Suki who was very professional. When you a in Ubud, definately pay this place a visit. You won't regret it!

Pros: Fresh, Great service, Nice atmosphere

Cons: Only salads and daily special

Great mint pie

This trendy hipster joint is up a steep hill in the section of town between Ubud central and Campuhua. They have a nice looking salad bar. Overall menu a bit overpriced for Ubud standards. Vegan mint pie is excellent though you have to fork out Rp 40,000 for it, so you won't be having it on a regular basis.

Pros: mint pie

Cons: price, location on steep hill

Amazing Alchemy

WOW! Love this place.

The salad bar has a fab selection of raw/dehydrated goods! Kale chips, flax crackers, seaweed, cashew dressing to name a few. Their juices are awesome and served with a bamboo straw instead of horrible plastic!
We had one of the daily specials, vegetable maki seaweed rolls, yummo!
The raw desserts were amazing and very cheap. I had to take 2 away with my and they were wrapped in a banana leaf which I felt was wonderful.
Friendly staff and a good selection of supplements and organic supplies.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Pros: Tasty wholesome raw food, Juices, Desserts!!!

Cons: location

Heavily Organic, 100% Raw Vegan, no lip service

This delightful new organic health food store with attached juice bar has vib' and looks set to raise the bar in Ubud.

Its situated next to a health concious Japanese restaurant that hosts an organic co-op market every Tuesday. They sell some fresh veg that the co-op didn't have while I was there.

I met one of the owners, Elena while I was there and she volunteered friendly local health information.

There is not a single cooked item in the store or on the menu, the only place in Ubud truly 100% raw vegan! I tried their green juice and several raw chocolate snacks - awesome!

Most health food establishments in Ubud (and Bali) are omnivore restaurants with a veg/raw vegan/organic menu section. This place how ever is truly raw vegan and fully deserving 5 cows.
Updated from previous review on Tuesday November 08, 2011

Pros: 100% raw vegan, other health services, next to organic co-op market (Tuesdays)

Cons: A little difficult to get to, brief-ish menu (but it only just opened)
