Very flavorful and reasonably prices

They have many vegan options. I loved the gebeta plate that had a sample of 3 dishes and a salad. It was also gluten free, which is nice too.

I love the idea of the Vegetarian Gebeta “Sampler”, but not when I don’t get to choose. We have had great experiences with other Ethiopian restaurants where we can mix and match to try more things.
We ordered to go and choose #14 Collard Greens and #16 Split Peas in chili pepper sauce, and the Ye Abesha Selata. Both dishes were served on top of injera. Collard Greens were nicely cooked and good flavors. The Split Peas were a consistency of refried beans and slightly sweet, not spicy. The selata “salad” was the best. I could eat it all day.
The owner was taking orders, serving, cooking and preparing the food, by herself.
I did leave a tip and she told me, it goes into a pot and she will give it to the employees or help towards bills.

Cons: Pricey for portion size

Unique Restaurant in Reno!

The staff was very kind and knowledgeable and Their entire vegetarian section on the menu is vegan! I suggest choosing which entrees sound best as they will all be served on the same Injera platter rather than getting the combo that's already listed on the menu. I also suggest going with other vegans rather than omnivores because their meat dishes would be served on the same piece of Injera as your entree as this type of food is all about sharing. The Injera was tasted like a sourdough crepe. My favorite entree was number 17. I enjoyed the experience and would love to go back! highly recommend.

Reno's Ethiopian Offerings

Zagol is a cozy restaurant located in the middle of a strip mall. There were only a few parties inside when we went and they sort of do a decent job with distancing. However, I definitely wouldn't be as comfortable dining in if their socially distanced tables were full. They were still a bit too close.

We ordered the vegetarian gebeta set and ended up accidentally ordering all of the veggie options (more below). Our spread was gorgeous with tasty lentils and potatoes, which were my favorites. Their greens however were very salty so I would stick with the ones by default that came from the set.

Now, with any "gebeta" sets, most restaurants allow you to select from a number of main entrees to build your own plate. I was used to this so when I ordered the vegetarian set, I mistakenly read it as "three veggies plus the ones listed." Rather, it was meant to read as "three veggies that we decided which are..."

I'm sure it must have raised an eyebrow with the waitress but she didn't ask to make sure I was reading it correctly. We ultimately paid double what I expected so and was giving myself a hard time over it. I knew there was a reason why she offered us more injera (since this is normally an additional charge). Learn from my mistake and read properly if ordering a gebeta.

Pros: Combination set is nearly all vegan

Cons: Unclear menu description on combination set

Good but poor value

I got the vegetarian gabeta (combination) which is supposed to be three dishes. I ate the whole thing in one sitting. It costs $32 and it is the size of one entree with extra injera. It was a good meal but would normally cost 12-15 elsewhere. Maybe just order each entree separately.

They were nice. I suggest asking about butter in the vegetarians entrees.

Pros: Nice, Good food

Cons: Mostly bread, No online ordering, Poor value

Northern NV's only Ethiopian restaurant

The new location is delightful and is run by the same woman as on 4th street. I love the ambience with the African music videos in the background and warm spiced air. I've never seen it properly busy before and wonder how she is able to keep chugging along. The mesir wat and tikil gomen are my personal favorite dishes. All of the food is very simple and traditional, but it's unique fare for Reno.

Pros: Only Ethiopian restaurant in northern NV, Gluten-free, Authentic

Cons: Slower service since entire staff is 1-3 people

Excellent Vegan Ethiopian Cuisine

We are big fans of Ethiopian food and make a point of finding some when we get to the Bay Area. While we've found some great restaurants, this place near home that we just discovered takes the "first place" prize in our eyes. We had 4 of the 6 vegan entrees and loved all of them (they are marked vegetarian, but we confirmed as did the previous reviewer that they are free of animal products). we also had a tasty sweet ginger tea, but ask about the sweetener in this instance, as the owner uses sugar and honey interchangeably.

Pros: Spectacularly flavorful entrees, 6 vegan choices, Beautifully decorated interior

Cons: Serve meat, Use honey in several items, Only 6 choices

Great food and service

We relatively new vegans, and used to come to this restaurant before. We remembered that they had many veggie dishes, but werent sure if they used dairy or ghee in them still. We called ahead and double checked once we arrived as well, and were assured that the veggie dishes were vegan.

We got 3.. .the Mesir Wat (Lentils), Tikil Gomen(Cabbage), and Gomen(Collard Greens). Its served on delicious and hearty Injera bread with more on the side. You use the bread as the silverware and eat with your hands.

It was so delicious. Boldly but responsibly seasoned, super savory, and every dish was very unique despite them all sounding very similar on the menu.

I like the spot and the owner/cook is a sweetheart, I'd love to see them get more business and stick around. Perhaps even add a few more veg dishes.

Pros: Tasty food, Unique Experience

Cons: Not specifically vegan on the menu
