Amazing Vegan Cuisine from a spectacular part of China - Edit
I stumbled across this restaurant while shopping at Kam Man in Quincy this evening. So glad I stopped in! The food is all freshly prepared in-house and the dishes I tried were all delicious. Owner Li is very nice and she greats/treats her customers warmly. If you are looking for great tasting and unique vegan food, Yunnan Vegetarian is absolutely worth trying. I can't wait to go back!

Amazing - Edit
Amazing, inexpensive food. Staff was friendly and the menu had plenty of options, cold and warm. I had the mushroom & soy meat soup with yellow vermicelli and my boyfriend had the soy bbq with noodles. Very impressed and will be coming back ASAP!

Yunnan Restaurant - Edit
Based on a prior review, we went over to Kam Man in Quincy to check out this veg/vegan restaurant. The owner greeted us right away. We told her we were vegan and she asked several questions and guided us toward what we might order. We did a take-out and there was only one item that could not be done as a take-out. She had us taste several ingredients as well. The food was delicious. It was different from the usual Chinese restaurant fare. The tofu was "fresh" and I had never tasted tofu like this. Everything was great!!

Delicious & incredibly fresh - Edit
My understanding is that two sisters recently opened this gem of a little eatery. I was told one of them operated a restaurant for 10 years in Taiwan, and it is the other's first foray into the industry. They have something really special happening here.
Read moreIt is quite casual - order at the counter, take out, or eat at one of four or five tables inside the cozy glassed in area, inside the supermarket (across from the checkout lines). I asked if everything was vegan and was told that everything except for the egg dishes are vegan, and they don't put egg in any of the tofu dishes. I spoke with Lee Li Chen, and she clearly understood my desire to eat an entirely plant-based meal. She then guided me through picking what I would be happy eating. Being a cold day, I wanted something hot, so we decided I should get a soup. She showed me examples of the possible noodles, all of which looked very fresh. Lee guided me to some of her favorites and I readily took her advice. She asked if I preferred a mushroom or tomato base today, and I chose tomato. She checked to make sure I was good with cilantro and if I had anything else I wanted to avoid. I assured her that as long as everything was plant-based, I'd be happy. I also asked if it could be made spicy. She pointed to several chili options and said that was the best way to add heat.
After a very short wait, Lee brought a big bowl of soup to my table, accompanied by a small side of lightly pickled cabbage. She then also helped me to a side of chili oil/paste, and added some chilies in vinegar to the cabbage.
It was incredibly flavorful, warming, and filling. All for only $8. In addition to the noodles, tomato, and broth, there were soy crumbles - think like a dark protein, bok choy, and the most amazing split yellow lentil cakes I've ever had. I asked about them. They were like silken tofu in texture, and tasted of mild yellow lentils. I was told they are a Yunan specialty that they make in house.
I look forward to returning and trying lots more of their delicious food. Lee was very kind as well, which is an added bonus. If you've read this far, hesitate no longer. Go now and enjoy their delicious food!
Pros: fresh, friendly, unique to the area
Cons: in the middle of a supermarket, small, cash only
