Mushroom Hotpot restaurant - Edit
We had dinner for two at this charming and quaint Buddhist hot pot restaurant nestled in the heart of Dali’s historic old town. The restaurant, with its rustic wooden beams and minimalist decor adorned with serene images of Buddha, exuded a peaceful aura that invited us to unwind and immerse ourselves in the culinary experience.
Read moreAs we settled at our table, we were enveloped in a soothing ambiance characterized by soft lighting and the gentle sound of bubbling broths simmering in the traditional hot pots. The setting was enhanced by the subtle scent of fresh herbs and spices drifting through the air, creating an atmosphere that felt both inviting and tranquil.
The focus of our meal was the star ingredient: mushrooms. They were masterfully presented in a variety of shapes and styles that highlighted their diverse textures and flavors. We were introduced to an impressive spread of mushrooms ranging from delicate enoki and hearty shiitake to the more exotic varieties like shimeji and maitake. Each type of mushroom had been carefully chosen for its unique characteristics, resulting in a flavorful and harmonious balance in our hot pot.
The generous portions served to us were not only abundant but were also beautifully arranged, showcasing the vibrant colors and intricate forms of the mushrooms. We were simply in awe as our hot pot began to bubble, transforming into a steaming medley of flavors as we cooked the mushrooms to perfection. The freshness and quality of the ingredients were apparent, making each bite a delightful experience.
The staff, despite the language barrier, was genuinely warm and accommodating. The lady who attended to us was immensely friendly and exuded a welcoming spirit, guiding us through the menu with enthusiastic gestures and a big smile. Although she didn’t speak English, her kindness transcended any language difficulties we encountered, and with the help of a translating app, we were able to navigate our order with ease. She made an effort to ensure our experience was seamless and enjoyable, which added a personal touch to our dining experience.
As we savored our meal, we couldn’t help but appreciate the health-conscious nature of the food. The simplicity of the ingredients combined with the cooking method enhanced the natural flavors without overwhelming them. We paid 158rmb for 2
Pros: The ambiance , The food quality , The service
Cons: Nothing

Easy to find and hearty food - Edit
Small (maybe 5 tables) mushroom hotpot with nice atmosphere. Broth is made of 10 types of mushrooms, which you drink 1/3 of, then extra soup base is added and you can cook the additional ingredients bought out. Baidu had a coupon so set menu for 2 was ~150RMB which was more than enough for 2 people. Really good hotpot experience, considering not too many vegan options out there, would not want to miss out. No English from the staff which made some communication points tricky, but made do.

Best vegan mushroom hotpot, also offers take-out - Edit
Yunnan China is very famous for mushrooms, among other things. However, most of the mushroom hotpots are not vegan. This is the only one I found in Dali. So, it is a must-go if you are in Dali.
Read moreThe food is great! First they serve the pot with a delicious soup of many types of mushrooms. You would start by eating the mushrooms and drink the soup. When you get to 1/3 of the soup, ask the waitress to add water, then you start the hotpot with mushroom soup as base. The combination of the ingredients is just right, with serval kinds of vegetables, rice noodles, and vegan meats.
The host/waitress was very nice. She suggested that we (2 adults and 1 12-year-boy) only needed to order the two-person hotpot set. It was the right amount for us.
They also have take-out of mushroom fried rice and soup. They are very delicious, inexpensive, and do not have the taste of MSG, which is quite common in other take-out foods. It can be ordered from Apps such as Meituan.

Amazing hotpot - Edit
We had the mushroom hotpot set meal for 2 at 158rmb. Free tea (barley?), sunflower seeds, peanuts and fruit were brought to the table before we had the hotpot.
Read moreThe hotpot itself was fantastic - packed with lots of types of Chinese mushrooms in mushroom broth, then plates of vegetables and tofu were brought to the table to cook in the broth. Fantastic place and they didn't close until we'd finished eating (past 11pm).
The restaurant is down guangwu (广武路) Road in the old town.
Pros: Amazing hotpot , Tea, fruit, sunflower seeds and peanuts included, Lovely small restaurant environment
Cons: We couldn't get through menu up so had to ask for , Set menus only
