Beware of egg in vegan items

I visited her just after Christmas while visiting family in Liverpool. I ordered from the vegan menu and reminded them that I didn’t want egg in my fried rice. They came back moments later and asked if I did t want egg in my main dish (which was on the vegan menu) as it was usually made with egg. It was a tofu and ginger dish which was lovely when it came but I’m glad I mentioned not wanting egg as there was obvious confusion about this being included in vegan dishes.

Pros: Tasty

Cons: Egg included in vegan dishes

not great

Three different vegetarian set meals available- we tried the one that was vegan. Starter was crispy tofu, pancakes & hoisin sauce. Quite tasty but only 2 pancakes each. Then some deep fried mini spring roll things which were very greasy and not much filling inside. Mains were a tofu dish (meant to be crispy but wasn’t), some stir fry vegetables (lacked flavour) and sweet and sour mushrooms (actually pretty nice).

It’s great this place has veggie/vegan options on the menu but the food quality is only average. Friendly staff and good view of the Chinese arch though. I probably won’t go back.

Pros: warm welcome, location

Cons: food lacks flavour, food a bit greasy

Crispy tofu pancakes!

Eaten here twice this week (as was so keen to return after the first visit!) and only have good things to say. Both times had the shredded tofu pancakes which are both delicious and super fun to eat (they come as separate ingredients - pancakes, hoisin sauce, crispy tofu, cucumber, spring onion - and you roll them yourself). Have tried two of the main tofu dishes and rice and it was all tasty, fresh and filling. Absolutely wonderful staff (the place is run by a couple and they are so friendly), great location. Will be back soon!

Pros: Shredded tofu pancakes, Wonderful staff, Great location

Great range for vegans and helpful staff

We really enjoyed our visit to Yuet Ben - having arrived just after opening we were treated to really attentive service! We told the manager we were vegan and he helped guide us through the menu. A feast of pickled vegetables, 'three precious jewels', aubergine in black bean and kwo ta tofu meant we left very happy! It was lovely to eat in a restaurant overlooking Chinatown and hear some of the history of the area, I really look forward to visit again.

Pros: Very friendly staff, Lots to choose from as a vegan, Good value

Yuet Ben, Liverpool

Someone is having a laugh submitting the Yuet Ben for happy cow? There is a bigger than average vego section on the menu compared to most other chinese restaurants in Liverpool but make no mistake, veg*nism is a sideline in here and eating dead animals is very much the number 1 in this establishment. There's also lamb on the menu which I was under the impression from what's listed elsewhere on this website was supposed to be a deal breaker against a listing on happycow. There's better veg*n options nearby.

Portions are small.
