Wanted to like this place more - Edit
While the food was good, it wasn’t great. For the things I’ve tried: the black mushrooms were really good, the kung pao tofu and Szechuan green beans were just ok, and the sesame chicken was super dense (so much so that the middle of it was bland). If I’m craving Chinese I would rather have Vegetable Garden right up the road.

Really good - Edit
Yuan Fu has a big, all vegan menu with something for everyone. We ordered the Tan Tan Noodles, taro root balls, sesame spinach pancake (like a scallion pancake)& moo shoo vegetables and it was all fantastic. Our food arrived quickly and was piping hot. The tan tan noodles were our favorite.

This place is not fancy but reminiscent of the amazing Chinese food we ate when we lived in NYC. I’m sure we’ll be back when we get the chance.

Great menu - Edit
I love the size of this menu and that it’s all veg for veg folks to enjoy without worry!
Read moreI have one favorite dish and that’s just a simple string beans with shiitake mushrooms. They have brown rice to match the healthfulness here, awesome.
Other favorite dishes are the bird’s nest because it has pine nuts and crispy iceberg lettuce wraps, as well as chicken with cashews and steamed white jade rolls.
Love this place so much! Every time I’m here I want to order half a dozen dishes, but usually just narrow to 2-3. Ha ha!
The decor is quite old fashioned but don’t let that stop you from ordering food. They have a robust take out business as well as the dine in option.
So good! Fresh and not greasy or super salty!
Pros: Vegan chicken, String beans, Brown rice
Cons: Should have gluten free soy sauce

WOW! Vegan Chinese food. - Edit
I highly recommend this restaurant. Everything is vegan, so no worries about cross-contamination. The portions are HUGE so buying a couple different dishes will work for us for several meals. YAY!

Greasy - Edit
I got the orange chicken but the chicken itself was just very fried and large and the sauce was more traditional type so it was more liquidy and tasted of burnt orange. I got really full off of two or three pieces and couldn’t stomach anymore

A must-eat in Rockville - Edit
This place is an institution! Seriously the best Chinese food, beloved by vegans and omnivores alike. Rockville is the best place is the DC area generally for Chinese food, and this place still stands out
Read moreI definitely recommend the hot and sour soup and the roast duck as appetizers. My favorite is the spicy tofu hot pot, but you can’t go wrong when ordering. I’ve noticed that people who love it all seem to have a different favorite dish, which I think shows that they have a lot of awesome options.
Don’t worry if you don’t like spicy food. Most dishes aren’t spicy, and if they’re marked spicy, they’re only a little spicy. I actually do like spicy food, but I don’t mind it’s not more spicy because it’s otherwise so delicious.
They’re only open for takeout right now. We called in our order and picked it up, easily. Service has always been fast and helpful in my experience.
Pros: 100% vegan , Gluten-free section of the menu, Great staff
Cons: Only a couple dessert options

Love this restaurant. - Edit
I have been eating at Yuan Fu for many years. When I lived in Potomac, MD, I would eat there at least once a week. Whether dining in, or carryout, it never disappoints. Amazing variety, and the food is always fresh and perfectly prepared. The staff is professional and friendly. Now that I live over an hour away, I still take trips just to enjoy the food.

Meh - Edit
Bought food here to support a local business but unfortunately did not like anything. General tsos chicken was mushy and had an odd taste. The vegetable medley was even worse. Couldn’t eat it. Really wanted to like this place as an all vegan establishment but I didn’t😒

Great food. I have been here over a dozen times and almost always love what I get. Kung Pao Triple Delight with Asparagus is my favorite. You can even see them preparing food for a lot of the options, such as cutting mushrooms, in the store which shows things are fresh.
