Mae Sai's best non-Thai vegan option by far! - Edit
Since the border with Tachileik has been closed, this family-run establishment has seen business slow significantly and could use your support. I’ve eaten here every week for the past year and am always surprised and impressed by the variety of curries that may accompany a chapati. They also offer an aloo paratha with too many onions for my preference, but still great when something non-Thai in Mae Sai is desired. Inquire if their grating is open, and give them up to an hour to prepare. I find it works best to give them a container for take-out, go do something else, and come back at the time they specify to pick up since the dining area has been reconverted to living space during our current Covid predicament. There’s just the perfect level of spice for me (probably what an average authentic Indian restaurant would put between mild and medium), potatoes as a staple but also often eggplant, cauliflower, etc., varying every time. On revision, I haven't asked if they use ghee, so strict vegans need to confirm. I feel guilty about how much aluminum foil, little plastic bags, and my pile of rubber bands after dozens of visits :-|

Cons: Irregularly open due to local Thai indifference, Only two items on the menu, A bit too much packaging for takeout

Perfect border run lunch - Edit
If you take the bus from CNX to Mae Sai for a border run and don’t take too long inside Burma you can walk away from the border on the Thai side, left side of the street and turn left on Tessaban Soi 6, down about 30m and find this absolute gem. Delicious, hot and fresh, huge portions for less than 40-50b a dish. Family owned and run and super convenient for a border run, after eating head back to the main road and get a motorcycle taxi back to the bus station for 50b. They also have a small shop selling Indian and Nepali goods inside and on the street there is usually a cart selling fried snacks, many vegan. You can walk along the main road and turn in as I described or follow the map on Happy Cow which took me in back roads, still only 3-4 min from the border. Enjoy!

delicious food - Edit
I stopped in here while waiting for my bus back to Chiang mai. it's a very quiet family run restaurant. The man was very nice serving me and I really enjoyed the food. It was home cooked Indian style food, tasted clean and healthy. The Aalu bread was delicious. I will come back again while I'm up this way.
