Hidden gem in Istanbul!

This is a fantastic place in Istanbul. It is a bit hidden, as it is on the top floor of the building and there are no signs. However, when you find it, you will not get disappointed. Cheap and simple turkish food, but very delicious and good quality! The staff is super friendly. On the first night we were there they invited us to join a small party at the place the next day. Nice people, super atmosphere and cozy. If you are in Istanbul, make sure to check it out!

Worth going out of your way for

We had lunch at Yesil Ev a couple of days ago and I think it has been the nicest food we've tried in Istanbul so far. It is on about the four floor of the building and there is not much signage apart from a sign on the street but keep going up the stairs until you get to the level with a sign and doorbell - it is worth it. There is a small sunny room up the top, the menu is spoken, we had a soup starter and a mixed veggie plate each (20 lira) which had about five different hot and cold dishes such as lentil stew, potatoes, salad, artichokes, bulghur, carrots with yogurt - some of the same dishes I had tried in other restaurants and some new ones, all seemed typical turkish but EXTREMELY DELICIOUS.

Pros: delicous, friendly staff, good prices

Cons: a little hard to find

Lovely superfriendly place with great veggie food

This place is SO much worth a visit, with very nice homey atmosphere and very friendly staff. It is the place of the green party so you will possibly be dining next to a meeting. It's up on the terrace of the building and on a warm night this setting is perfect.

Me and my family ate lentil soup for starters and then a mixed vegan plate for me and mixed vegetarian plate for them. We were all very pleased. The prices were very inexpensive!

I highly recommend Yesil Ev. This place made me happy!

Pros: friendly, good vegan options

Relaxed, uncomplicated food & good value

This is not a traditional restaurant in the sense that it's not advertised at all from the outside. You need to buzz the lowest button on the door to get in. The location is near the opposite side of the street to the James Joyce pub, so if you can see that, you're close.

The place itself is up a short flight of stairs, and into another door where there are some meeting rooms presumably for environmental groups, and a kitchen. The great thing here is the small outside terrace. It's not exactly a rooftop view of the Bosphorous but they have created quite a pleasant atmosphere here.

Meal options seemed to consist of 5 or 6 different mezze style dishes, all were vegetarian but they mostly all seemed vegan too. I just asked for a mixed plate - it was typical Turkish food but nicely done, including rice, beans in sauce, aubergine and some other mixed veg.

The total for the mixed plate, a beer and a tea was just 15TL which was very good considering that beer is typically 8TL in most places. For Istanbul, it's quite a unique combination to have alcohol + veg. food + low prices.

The dual community group/food & drink serving nature of the place is slightly confusing at first, since they don't seem to advertise it at all, but the woman serving us was very friendly and the whole place seems pretty chilled out.

Pros: Central location, Good value, Nice atmosphere

Cons: Not primarily a restaurant

Greens

Literally meaning Green House, this was the centre of Greens Party in Turkey until they dissolved several months ago. The first of November Vegan Day also celebrated here with large vegan food selection, films and speeches. Ah yes, food, they are nice and staff are aware of the fact if you go there. They sometimes serve olive oil based Turkish food (Agean style, mostly vegan).

Pros: In the middle, Nice people, Reasonable price
