I finally remembered to save the location of the vegetarian market in Singapore. Many things are vegan suitable, a”it’s walking distance from home and open on Sundays! Added bonus lots of vegetarian/vegan options for a meal in same mall!!
affordable goods! (love the prawn & tomyum pastes!) - Edit
a little store conveniently located at level 1, next to infinite happiness. sells a huge range of vegan and vegetarian goods at reasonable prices, brings in seasonal goodies too such as CNY treats during the chinese new year.
here are 2 of my favourite purchases:
1. vegetarian prawn paste $3
i used to get this for $10 at a temple, was shook to find it here for less than 1/3 of the price!
taste-wise, it doesn’t taste like the typical “hae bee hiam” but has a very pleasant savoury flavour of its own. the closest i can get to describing it is the taste of oyster sauce? btw a little goes a really long way!
goes sooo well with veg or tofu stir frys, i especially love it with sliced spicy eggplant/cauliflower!
2. vegetarian tomyam paste 227g $3.50
a non vegetarian fried recommended this to me and wow!!! it’s really good! just like the good ol tom yum i remember eating. if you’re reallyyy into the sour lime flavour, feel free to squeeze in extra lime! spiciness wise, i’d say it’s at a moderate level? those who hardly it spicy food would find this pretty spicy!
i love to use this for my soup base when cooking udon! add a block of tau kwa, some mushrooms, tomato, and vegetables and you’ve got yourself a hearty meal.
Large range of Asian vegetarian and vegan cooking items - Edit
Included in the large range of items are various noodles, rice, sauces, pastes, seaweeds and condiments from across Asia. Dried mushrooms, powders, flours and frozen vegetarian items such as dumplings and Bao buns are available. There is a fridge as well with some dairy/ vegetarian items but check whether there are vegan. It is also worth asking which pre-made items are veg/ vegan to be sure.
You couldn't download. Weekly shop here but there is plenty of things you can buy for a long term cupboard item.
Lots of dried goods and tofu.
There are sauces spices and plenty of ingredients.
Snacks galore.
Convenient Shop in the Hotspot(Bugis) for Tourist - Edit
If I am around Bugis, I would definitely go to Fortune Centre which housed many vegetarian eateries! I love the Vegetarian Nasi Lemak (coconut rice), Vegetarian Otah and assorted Organic Buns sold by Xin Yuan Vegetarian Food Trading.
You can also get your supply of Veg*n Stuff (mock meat, canned food, vegetarian cooking/chilli sauces, ready-to-serve food, tibits/cracker, instant noodle, belacan, Bak Kut Teh sachet, Funori etc)
For Tourist, this is a convenient location to get there in town (nearby MRT: Bugis) The Vegetarian Bak Kwa (BBQ Pork/Pork Jerky) is available in this shop. I remember my ex-colleague from Hong Kong was tasked to buy this Bak Kwa (non-vegetarian) whenever he was in Singapore for business trip. Here you can find the veg*n version! Besides Bak Kwa (BBQ Pork), Veg*n Meat Floss is available there too.
