Very good - Edit
The food here is packed with flavour and it’s so nice to have some tempeh! The rice dishes are particularly good, also enjoyed some of the sandwiches. Amazing price too.
Read moreKnocking off a star because the chips were inedible (completely raw), also they seemed to have sold out of a lot of things when we were there (seitan and tofu)

Mixed feelings about Xela Green - Edit
First of all good things: They are mostly vegan (except the breakfast with egg). The food was good. I ordered the lentil soup for 30 Q (was tiny) my partner ordered the tacos with lentils (was okay sized). Soup 30 Q, tacos 35 Q. A little bit confused how the prizing relates to the portion size..
Read moreBut now the negative parts: As we entered the restaurant, the whole place stank like a cat toilet. A dog was sitting around (okay). But suddenly a dirty (no joke) cat climbed from the roof and was straying around. It jumped on the chairs and so on. As it jumped on our chair I removed the cat gently. Then the chef came, took the cat and let it in to the kitchen. THAT is actually super gross and not tolerable.

Buena alternativa - Edit

Green and bear it - Edit
Big bowls of salad with dark green veg as the base (at last!). The mushroom burrito was tasty.
Read moreWe don't give it 4 because there was a dog poo on the floor though it did get cleaned up before our food arrived. And because the Buddha bowl needed a bit of dressing.

Delicious vegan options! - Edit
A local vegetarian restaurant with plenty of vegan options! I tried the tofu scramble breakfast and the tempeh veggies both which were delicious 🌿 I also love supporting locally owned restaurants, and the owner was lovely.

Good food but menu was limited - Edit
We had the Buddah bowl and a guacamole. Both were good. Buddah bowl had green leaves ,tomato, sweet corn, cucumber, carrots and 2 chickpeas patties. The problem was when we came most of the food was unavailable. Not sure if this is happening a lot but was disappointing. Overall would go back again if more food is available.

Nice food at a reasonable price - Edit
Had a budda bowl and a panini - they make everything including the seitan themselves. Budda bowl has a really nice lentil patty in as well. Simple food with great flavours and lovely owner

More than just a great diner in Xela, you will meet two (or three) beautiful endearing people. Lucia is a sweet child who helps her mother running the restaurant. They also run a dog refuge on their own and spend their time helping stray dogs and obviously funding the project with superb veggie food!you can find a local newspaper about vegetarianism/animals/ecology in Guatemala. had to go to Xela Green every day :)

Clean Fresh Eating - Edit
This place is amazing. Clean food. Very fresh. We had the Guacamole with salsa and it was so good I could of ordered another just for Dinner. The Saitan Paninini with 3 salsa was delicious filling and presented beautifully. The location just felt great. Go here if you want to eat clean!!

Lovely place. - Edit
Because of COVID they closed the restaurant, but reopened with a small kiosk. They still offer a broad variety of creative dishes, but the seating is not as comfy and inviting anymore. We also ordered a cake from them and they did a great job, it was delicious. I will definitely be back.

Good vegan food - Edit
I was very happy to find a pure vegetarian restaurant at Xela. I think is the only one. The place is nice and the location very easy to find near the main square. Only problem there is always the same food so after few days my group was tired to eat there. Anyway we went there everyday during our stay in Xela. The soup was excellent and the drinks also.

Quiet but reliable - Edit
I never saw a single customer at this place on the 5 occasions I visited.
Read moreThey keep the door shut and the place looks closed. Sometimes they lock the door inexplicably and you have to knock on the glass.
Despite this, the food is freshly prepared and tastes good.
They will wrap the baguettes for you to take away. Great if you are going trekking the next day.
Pros: Reliably good, Cheap
Cons: Always empty

Good, but not the best. - Edit
A friendly cozy place. The food was pretty good, although a bit salty for my taste and the orange drink that came included was a watered down sweetened orange juice.
Read moreThe owner is very nice but it was a by bit funny when he said "everything is vegan..." "except..." all the non-vegan things we pointed out to him.
However, very nice.

Delightful Vegan Food Choices - Edit
It's hard enough to be a no-oil vegan in the US, but it's doubly hard in a foreign country with limited gringo Spanish. That said, my husband and I were so happy to find this little gem of a restaurant within walking distance of our hotel on the main plaza in Quetzaltenango.
Read moreWe were able to get green smoothies for the first time in our visit to Guatemala (over three weeks), The waitress bent over backwards to be of help to us on menu choices. I got a pasta dish; my husband got a nice, big salad. On top of it, we got some very nice natural tea to end the meal.
The waitress was so nice as to give us some baggies with the tea we had. We fell in love with the tealo in Guatemala! The relaxed environment and meal was just what we needed after a long day of travel!
Pros: Close to our hotel on the main plaza, Very nice and relaxed atmosphere, Very attentive waitress

Read moreSince the first time I had eaten here, I eat here every time I'm out of food at home. All the food is healthy and delicious, not to mention at a great price. I don't know many places with vegan food her in Xela that doesn't break the bank, so I love Xela Green. :)
Pros: healthy /saludable, delicious / deliciosa , cheap / barata
