Loved it - Edit
Really enjoyed our dinner. They were friendly and the atmosphere was nice. We had hot and sour soup, pan fried dumplings, eggplant with garlic and black pepper seitan. All were very tasty. Salted caramel ice cream was outstanding!

Maybe it was an off day? - Edit
Sadly, my experience was a mediocre one. The food was very tasty, but it was served indifferently. The veggie shiu mai were obviously old. Not only were they not hot, the tops of some were dry even though the lettuce leaves underneath were damp and shriveled. The pumpkin soup was lukewarm. The side of steamed greens and hot tea were fine. In short the food was tasty, but the details were careless. Also, the service was not up to modern standards. They were in a rush to get my order even though it was not over busy, and no one bothered to ask if things were to my liking.

LOVED this place! - Edit
We were so happy to find this place! We ate there two days in a row because we loved it. EVERYTHING on the menu is vegan. They have a lunch combo (11:30a-4pm M-F) that is delicious and a great deal (includes a fried spring roll, miso soup and a pumpkin side) for $9!!!??? and there are about 15 different entrees to chose from. One day we shared a pot of tea with our lunch and the other day we had some warm sake. We also enjoyed the cozy ambiance and decor of the smallish dining room - very comfortable. The service was excellent too. We will definitely visit them again next time we're in NYC.

Nice cozy spot - Edit
It kind of looks like it's always closed from the outside ... But it's worth opening the door and coming inside. The menu reminds me a lot of a restaurant near me in the Boston suburbs so I wasn't totally wowed. That said, the Wild Ginger version of their orange seitan was better. The udon yaki was too sweet for my taste as was the japchae. The matcha cheesecake was quite nice.

I really liked it! - Edit
We had lunch here after a long walking morning and it was definitely a good idea! Even if the restaurant is located in central Manhattan (close to Little Italy) the atmosphere is very calm and nice. Friendly staff and quick service. Delicious Asian food. We ordered some dumplings, noodles and an aubergine-based dish. Everything was quite good. We couldn't try any desserts and it was a pity because everything looked interesting.

my favorite place! - Edit
This place is so amazing. I bring all my vegan and non-vegan friends here, always amazing. The Thai iced tea and Thai iced coffee are amazing, the black pepper seitan, basil-ginger soy, and the scallion pancakes are my favorite. Such a cute place, too.

great all rounder! - Edit
I took my non-vegan friend to this restaurant and they absolutely loved it, which says a lot. We got the sweet and sour tofu and veg. Seaweed salad, spring rolls, and dumplings all of which were really tasty, the only thing that was bland was the teriyaki tofu. All in all a great little restaurant and reasonable priced.

not worth the price - Edit
The meat substitute they used made me feel sick and the dumplings seemed like the same frozen ones that every other Asian restaurant uses. The food didn't seem to be prepared fresh, this all would have been fine but it's also expensive.

Also called LuAnn's Wild ginger - Edit
We had a pleasant dinner here. We had the Grilled Eggplant for appetizer - it was really nice and tender. For entrees we had the Malaysian Curry Stew (soy protein with vegetables, potatoes and pumpkin), and Smoked Teriyaki Seitan. Both were very good. Brown rice came with the dishes. Compared to the take-out menu, miso soup was not included when dining in, a strange minus. Overall, an enjoyable dinner with good service.

Underwhelming - Edit
The food was bland. The shredded bean curd had very little bean curd in it and way too much beans sprouts - the dish should have been named bean sprouts rather than shredded bean curd. Pad thai was ok. The satay tempeh had the tiniest bit of satay sauce that I could not actually tell you whether the sauce was good. The décor is very nice.

Good Service/Atmosphere, Bland Food - Edit
I wish I could give Wild ginger a better rating but the food was very underwhelming for me. The spring rolls were honestly the worst I've ever had. They were filled almost entirely with jicama and nothing else and the hoisin sauce they use for dipping isn't a good pairing. The noodles I got were good but it's something that I could easily whip up myself at home in a few minutes.
Read moreI might stop by one more time to see if Wild Ginger can redeem themselves food wise but I won't go out if my way. To end on a positive note the prices were reasonable and the service was very good. They are also in a nice walkable area.

Top class food in pleasant restaurant - Edit
I had lunch there in September 2014. Waiting staff prompt, knowledgeable and helpful. The appetizer was King Oyster mushroom teriaki - fantastic! Taste and texture much like fresh calamari (I can still recall tasty food from my previous life as a piscaterian 30 years ago). Main course was of similar high standard. Thoroughly recommend this place

Good value with lunch to spare - Edit
We had the sweet citrus soy protein on a bed of kale and it was good, but a bit monotonous after a while, partly because it was such a huge portion. But it made for a great lunch the next day. We also had sweet and sour sesame soy protein, which was really good. The protein had a nice batter over it that held on well to the sauce. There was random entertainment outside where a guy pulled his car to the curb, opened the door, blasted music, and danced around on the sidewalk. Maybe this happens regularly?

Great Vegan Food - Edit
I had lunch at Wild Ginger yesterday, the menu was so varied it was difficult to choose. The food was tasty and filling but surprisingly light (in a good way!). When I was done I just didn't want to leave. The menu can be confusing because some of the mains just sound like they must have meat and the deserts must have dairy, but they don't. The Bibimbop was particularly a revelation, the ingredients for this traditional Korean dish were strange but all worked together perfectly. And the pumpkin soup that came as an appetizer was an amazing thin broth with chunks of pumpkin that tasted nothing like I expected, but so good.
