they probably have what you want

Great grocery store for vegans. From nooch in bulk, to vegan chocolate chunks for your home baking, this Whole Foods has your vegan bases covered. In addition, the hot and cold bars have plenty of vegan options if you're looking to eat right now.

Best Whole Foods!

This is the nicest Whole Foods I've ever been in... it's giant, has tons of food options, huge hot & cold bars, and a cool spot to taste beer and wine. I'm vegan and it's probably one of my favorite places to eat in Chicago.

The newest in chicago, but the boringest

I guess after being at every health food store in chicago we expected a little too much of this location. We walked around and it was more of the same and we grabbed a kombucha and split... they did have the health starts here raspberry fruit tarts, though!

Best Whole Foods in Chicago

Two years ago the Lincoln Park Whole Foods moved from its old location to a newly constructed mega store on Kingsbury & Sheffield (one block south of North Avenue). It is 5 COWS AWESOME. Highlights include:

* Plethora of vegan selections. Lots of fresh, pre-made vegan carry out stuff from Soul Vegetarian East. Vegan cookies, baked goods and other desserts. Some made in-store, some from Candle Cafe in NYC. They now carry the AMAZING Sweet & Sara vegan marshmallow products.

* Lots of high quality organic produce, including pre-sliced organic fruits.

*3 huge salad bars - hot and cold items

*Great cruelty-free product selection.

*coffee bar up front that has soy and almond milk, and live music.

*five mini-restaurants and a wine bar inside. Fantastic vegan hot dogs, so-so vegan pizza, excellent vegetable sushi (if not happy with pre-made selections you can order exactly what you want and they make it fresh right there).

*Great location. It's walking distance to about everything in Lincoln Park and a super short car or bike ride from Wicker Park and Bucktown.

*Plenty of parking in huge, free parking cave. You don't need to validate a ticket, it's not gated. Spots up front reserved for alternative fuel vehicles.

And now for the bad stuff. The vegetarian and vegan items on the restaurant menus are still at the bottom of the list. Like veganism is an after-thought and vegans should still get to the back of the line. If Whole Foods isn't going to list the veggie dog in front of the frankfurter, who is?

Also disgusting is that when you walk in the main entrance, unless you cut through the body products section you're forced to walk past the fish and meat section...and it literally STINKS. People are offended by this. They should but the fish and meat in the back of the store.

The restaurant inside is good too!

Have you ever tried the River View restaurant inside Whole Foods? If not, try it! I was always apprehensive when it came to eating at restaurants within grocery stores, but I couldn't pass this one up when I saw the sign saying they offered vegan burgers and vegan hot dogs. The vegan burger is gluten free and one of the ingredients is quinoa -- it's an exceptional burger, but tends to fall apart (because there's not much to hold it together). The vegan hot dog and fries are equally as good.

As far as the store, I will say this is the best Whole Foods in the Chicago area (and I've been to all of them). They have a huge assortment of vegan items as well as the typical fancy foods.

WHOLE LOTTA SCAM

I just wanted to say that I know that the world is hyped up about Whole foods I feel that its a big overpriced scam that makes money off of making people feel less guilty about consuming meat. Whole foods has so much literature about how it unhealthy to consume meat products and how they care about animals there are at least 3 banners when you walk in. However, please notice that their meat section is the biggest of any food store anywhere. They were the original carriers of foie gras. That is actually how VIVA (the european Peta) started to ban it and talk about the cruel asspect of it. They are full of it and over priced. Just because they have a fancier decor does not entitile them to charge three times more. I hope other people start to notice the scam that is called WHOLE FOODS.

Pros: NICE DECOR

Cons: to expensive, CRUEL BIG MEAT SECTION, VEGANS SHOULD NOT SUPPORT
