Good but nothing special - Edit
Had a good meal here. Was nothing special. I won’t come again but if you’re in the area and there is nothing else it’s ok.

Peaceful, with delicious food - Edit
Box Hill has a great selection of vegan eating options and the Water Drop Teahouse is a great option if you want to get away from the crush of the Food Hall to somewhere serene.
Read moreThe temple building itself is modern and a bit hard to distinguish from the surrounding office blocks and shops. The temple is upstairs and the restaurant on the ground floor. It is bright and clean and has a lovely little zen-like garden outside the side windows.
The menu is completely adequate and I made the mistake of over-ordering by choosing a lunch box, which is a full meal (soup, rice, 2 dishes, pickles, and fruit) as well as an entree. Still, the food was so delicious I ate it all.
Definitely try the pot of cumquat tea which is extraordinary.
Great place for lunch at the weekend - healing and wholesome.
Pros: Quiet and gentle atmosphere, Generous great tasting dishes, A pleasant alternative to the food halls

Cheap and relaxing - Edit
This place has a limited menu. There are only 3 bento-style meals available on a rotating basis; the entrees and rice/noodle dishes are available daily.
Read moreThe food is tasty, but the kitchen used a little too much oil for modern palates. We really liked the clean and airy atmosphere of the venue. It is serene and shiny and very welcoming. The prices are quite low and the servings, at least of some meals we saw being consumed, are massive.
The cafe is right next to Golden Age - a shop full of vegan treats - as well as another Chinese supermarket with a wall of frozen vegan goodies!
Pros: Portion sizes, Atmosphere, Serenity
Cons: A bit oily, Not too much choice

Peaceful food in a peaceful setting - Edit
Water Drop is a very welcoming environmment, with Buddhist nuns and volunteers serving food. Our food was Taiwanese, so a cross between Chinese and Japanese, presented in beautiful bento boxes. The cumquat tea warmed us up too. Not a long walk from the train station and parking is available on the street. Take a look at the upstairs shrine it is stunning. Highly recommended!

not your best bet - Edit
In general, Box Hill is full of surprises for veg*ns. I don't often travel out there but I had some business to attend to at Box Hill Centrelink and needed a quick lunch beforehand. Water Drop Teahouse is right round the corner and it delivered on cheap, fast, vegan food. The cafe is spanking clean and a little too sterile for my liking. On the ground floor of the temple, it feels a bit like eating in a hotel foyer. They have a small menu of a few soups and noodle dishes plus a daily rotating special with rice which is also served with a little bowl of wonton soup, a few fried yam rolls, and a few pieces of fruit, all for $10.50. The sides were a nice surprise especially given the dish I ordered wasn't extraordinary. I had the mock char siew pork which was served lukewarm with some sweet barbecue sauce. The rice was, as mentioned in the previous review, crunchy, dry, and also not really warm. None of the dishes were highly spiced, which is what you expect from temple food. All in all, the food was average and a little bland. I was happy with my meal but don't think I'd go back again, especially given the other veg*n options in the area.

Cons: dry/crunchy rice, food served lukewarm , limited menu

Newly Discovered Gem In Box Hill! - Edit
Although been to this temple a few times in past few years, amazed to find out that now they have vegetarian food!
Read moreClean, bright, neat, friendly staff, nice food, great location.
Tried Curry Laksa -- yum yum! One of the best.
Rice a bit dry/hard but the presentation and the pickles is just mouth watering. You get soup, fruits, yam rolls with the rice set meal (apart from rice and the vege sweet and sour).
Lemon in water is refreshing.
Love the fact that can pay respect to Buddha at third floor.
Love the fact you can grab a book and read quietly there.
Staff friendly & dedicated.
Will be coming here again & again!
Pros: Nice meal, Great atmosphere, Friendly staff
Cons: Rice can be a bit hard/dry.
