Tasty Javanese traditional vegan food with a Surinamese twist

It's hard to find traditional warung-style Javanese dishes outside Indonesia, but I guess Amsterdam is the exception to the rule. This unassuming restaurant offers impeccably prepared tofu, tempeh, and bean dishes, just make sure there's no egg or terasi (shrimp paste) in the portions that you select. They also have delicious freshly-made chili paste as an extra, if you can take the heat.

Pros: Delicious tofu and tempe, Home-made sambal, Friendly service

Cons: Vegan dishes are not marked on the menu
