Pleasantly Surprised! - Edit
I was exacting this place to have limited options and/or be super expensive but wow…this place actually has great options and reasonable prices ?!?!? They sell locally made tempeh for a great price…lots of Tofurkey options and Upton’s stuff. Multiple brands of tofu. Plus they have a to-go section with plenty of vegan options! I was kinda scared but I’m so glad that I tried this place out. It’s a bit far from me, but still…will be coming back.

Local produce and products Food Store - Edit
The few times my brother and I have come here, we enjoy buying products from local farmers and vendors. They are transparent with their labels and ingredients, even with products made by Ward's. It sucks that they do have a large section where they sell all kinds of meats and it stinks up the rest of the store. You have to buy their locally made tempeh though! It is so bomb💗I think the parking space they have is good but, do not go during peak hours which is weekend afternoons.

Cons: Aisles are narrow and it always feels cramped, Cannot browse do to small spaces , Cannot visit on the weekends due to crowd

Great for Bulk Foods - Edit
The bulk food section is great for vegan essentials like vital wheat gluten, nutritional yeast, beans, rice, and textured vegetable protein.
Read moreI love that there is a bulk section so I can bring my own containers and save plastic. Also, their fruit and veggies are usually unpackaged as well, so less plastic!
They have a great variety of vegan cheeses, yogurts, and some Annie's stuff.
I've had a few of their premade vegan meals, but I'm not really impressed with them and they are expensive.
Another con is that the store is really crowded and the aisles are narrow. We try to wait to go until we need a lot of things because the cramped-ness is stressful, especially when the store is busy.
Pros: Bulk Foods, Reduce Plastic Usage, Friendly Staff
Cons: Really Cramped/Tight, Prepackaged Vegan Meals are Expensive/Bland

Ugggh the meat - Edit
Like the title says, there is so much meat here! Way more than the veg! And it's super crowded--checkout takes a long time. Despite that, they're still a really good store for vegetarians thanks to their size and range. I would have rated them higher if they weren't just a tad overpriced. The Wainwright Dairy milk is $7.00! It's cheaper where I live in Alachua so why drive to Gainesville.

nice selection, a bit crowded - Edit
I got vegan butte and, marshmallows and lots of fresh fruits & veggies. They had really cheap nice plants too. My only complaint is that the aisles are a bit small so it was crowded.

Pleased - Edit
Went to Wards for the first time today and I was pleased to see vegan items that I would have a hard time finding any where else locally like vegan yogurt and a beautiful array of tempeh. Everything is local and the fruit is delicious! I agree with another reviewers comments on the meat section, and it does boast its grass fed cow meat and milk. That was disturbing and upsetting, but a place like Wards is going in the right direction and offering great meat alternatives. over all they made a regular customer out of me with great food and friendly staff.

Local Staple - Edit
As a college student, and a vegan, I always have to consider food cost. Wards may not be fully vegan, but they do have the best prices on fresh organic local veggies. I am consistently amazed by the quality selection of local fruit and vegetables that Wards offers. Wards also carries a lot of vegan specialty items like vegan tortellini, Mouskowitz Cashew Cream Cheese, and Tofurky "hot" Pockets. Great selection of organic coffee and vegan/organic wines. The most expensive vegan wine is still under $10! Oh, and its the only place in town where you can buy Sweet & Sara Vegan marshmallow products. ^.^

Great Place for Produce/ Vegan Items - Edit
This is my favorite grocery store in Gainesville. It's the place to go for produce, vegan food products (except Gardein is noticeably absent), vegan hair and beauty products, delicious beer and good, cheap wine.

Best market in town - Edit
While Ward's does have an extensive meat department, the store's setup makes it easy to avoid this section.
Read moreYou can't deny the amazing selection this store offers as far as fruits, vegetables and bulk foods go. Super cheap tofu, too. I love this store.

Are You Kidding? - Edit
Wards has the best fruit and veg section in the area, also a big bulk foods section, but these are dwarfed by their absolutely massive red meat section! They are known as the leading meat supermarket. To even refer to them as "vegetarian-friendly" is a gross exaggeration. There is nothing vegetarian-friendly about their 60-foot long meat section and big butcher department. Many of us are so used to shopping in markets that are full of meat that we are in denial about it. Wards is a supermarket with a bigger than average meat section and a good fruit and bulk section, that's all. If you don't mind the meat views and smells, this is a good place for you. If you want to limit your interaction (and by extrapolation your complicity with it)with the meat world, go elsewhere and shop with people who share your views, not those who simply want to profit from them.
