Waku Waku was actually the first restaurant I've ever been to in Utrecht. When I first visited the company I work for there, my colleagues were kind enough to book the first dinner here. From that dinner on, I became a fan of their food and it was great on every visit.
Read moreTheir starters are all super tasty and so are the main dishes. I would highlight their grilled avocado started which is probably my favorite out of all of them (the tacos come as a close second). Main dishes are also all super nice, maybe my fav is the celeriac and least favorite I would say the eggplant...not because of the taste but the portion size is a bit small, when compared to the others.
Drinks, deserts, venue... all great to.
So why a "but..".. well first I had a bad experience on a dinner a bit later where I could not order desert because it was "too late"... what about warning me when the kitchen is closing so that I can order it? we had finished our main course a while ago actually, so there's no reason why this wasn't communicated. Second part of the "but.." was their stance regarding the pandemic rules and measures.. oh well, it's a shame because the food is really good.
Because of all of this, they are unreliable, right now they seem to be closed and there's no information about when they will open again, which is a shame as I wanted to go there last week.

I went there we my 2 non-vegan parents and it was a great success.
I recommend!

The Dishes look, taste and smell like they should do in a restaurant. Its of a quality why you go out for diner for. Its the whole experience, the sensations and the way the chef’s will surprise you with the foodcombinations and flavours. Great restaurant and I hope to be able to visit it many more times

I liked everything, first of all the food is delicious and really well presented, all the staff super nice, the place has a really friendly vibe and different kind of tables to accommodate small or big groups and even individuals. An outside area is present too. I read some reviews about being pricey but I didn’t find it so expensive, maybe it’s because I live in Zurich I don’t know. In any case I had a great experience, for sure the best dinner I had in a while and I certainly come back!

We went there for a dinner. We ordered the sharing bites, the asparagus and aubergine dish, and the coconut dessert. The food was full of tastes, the flavours were fresh and well mixed. We liked the service because everyone was kind. I wouldn’t say they have extremely creative or special inventions, but still the quality of the food is high standards.

I was so shocked to see this place got some negative reviews on here, as the quality of the food absolutely blew me away. The flavours were so intense and well-balanced it almost made me cry happy tears. We will definitely be visitting this place again to try out all the other dishes on the menu!

HappyCow requires a minimum rating of 2 stars for fully vegan or vegetarian listings. I would have preferred to give only 1 star but that is technically not possible. The food is 'picture perfect' / Instagrammable but the taste and quality is not so good. The restaurant is restless and a with lot of chairs you set next to the (busy) pathway. I came once to this restaurant because of the high rating but would recommend not to go and find a more authentic place.

Eigenlijk op alle punten 100%, op een ding na. Hoofdgerecht was, hoewel heel lekker moi en origineel, niet heel veel, was ook zonder garnituur dus het was wat het was zeg maar. Voor de prijs die je ervoor betaalt niet de goede verhouding; bovendien zullen er echt gasten zijn die daaraan niet genoeg hebben.

Best pant-based spot in Utrecht - Edit
Waku Waku is so far my best discovery for 100% plant-based addresses in Utrecht. The menu is simply stunning, each dish more attractive than the other. They are all very original and refined, nothing than I had seen so far. As starters we enjoyed a delicious corn chowder and "carrot & tempeh" (made with split peas black sesame tempeh from Clark fermentation). We opted for the Aubergine Massala and Oyster Koolrabi (best discovery for me!). Last but not least we shared a delicious crême brûlée, which has nothing to be ashamed of compared to the non-plant-based equivalent.

We hadden ons zeer verheugd om hier te eten. We komen in heel veel veganistische restaurants, maar wat wat hebben meegemaakt is echt uniek.

- Niets voor ernaast zoals broodjes met vegan smeersels of gegrilde groenten. Alleen patat!
- Bediening is absoluut niet flexibel. Wij waren met drie personen en de hapjes om te delen kon alleen maar met twee personen?! Dus een extra kon niet. Hoezo kan dat niet?Terwijl er een soepje bij zit die je dus niet kunt delen. Wij zijn vrijwilliger van een geestelijk gehandicapten dame. Zij was met ons mee en die kan je niet uitleggen dat dat niet kan en wil alles hetzelfde als wij.
- Porties zijn zéér klein. Hamburger is alleen hamburger met bijna niets extra's erbij. Ja wel iets heel kleins, namelijk één vingerhoedje rode koolsalade!
- De tweede ronde kregen wij sinaasappelsap die niet vers was. Werd uiteindelijk opgelost door drie nieuwe te geven, maar dan is het kwaad al geschiet. Wachten, vragen of de sap inderdaad niet vers is, terwijl deze dag een feestje had moeten zijn. Eindelijk weer op stap met Kelly na alle Corona maatregelen.
- En dan denk je alles gehad te hebben. Mag je alleen betalen met pin of creditcard. Wij vertelde dat we dat niet hadden. Uiteindelijk ging de bediening 1 akkoord, maar toen kwam bediening II en die vond het niet goed. Ze zou ons wel even een tikkie sturen! Vertelde dat het vermeld wordt op de website én reserveringsbevestiging. Wat niet zo is! Dus nog in discussie ook. Nadat we het hadden laten zien dat het inderdaad nergens vermeld wordt was het oké. Deze review bij WAKU WAKU ingediend en het enige wat ze nu gaan veranderen is dat de sharings bite’s nu ook voor oneven groepen zijn. Daar hebben we helemaal niets aan. Had een cadeaubon gegeven of wat korting op de volgende keer eten nu komen we nooit meer terug!
Pros: Veganistisch eten, In het centrum, Mooi groot restaurant
Cons: Duur in vergelijking met wat je op je bord krijgt, Bediening is niet flexibel/ geen goede gastvrouw, Te kleine lunchkaart

Wat jammer dat je zo teleurgesteld bent Puravida. We doen iedere dag erg ons best om iets bijzonders neer te zetten voor onze gasten en balen enorm als dit een keer niet lukt. Toch willen we je bedanken voor jouw opbouwende feedback. Door betrokken gasten zoals jijzelf kunnen wij onze service blijven verbeteren. Tegelijkertijd hopen wij dat onze gasten enige compassie op kunnen brengen voor het feit dat wij 5 maanden gesloten zijn geweest en dat we nu met te weinig (veel nieuw) personeel direct op het allerhoogste niveau moeten presteren. Gelukkig gaat het het iedere dag weer een stukje beter en het zal niet lang duren voordat wij weer op volle kracht zullen draaien. Nogmaals bedankt voor jouw feedback en kritische woorden. Dit vegan restaurant heeft veel keuze qua gerechten. Ik raad je aan om vooral de vegan blauwe kaas te proeven, gemaakt van cashewnoten. Het toetje werd aangeraden door de aardige jonge ober en ja echt om je vingers bij af likken. Heerlijk!
