Serves vegetarian and vegan food, soy milk coffee and beverages. Interesting program every evening (movies, readings, concerts). Open Mon-Fri 11:00-17:00.
I come here often to have lunch. I really like this place and it's good value for money.
Right now it is closed for renovations though.
They moved to another location during the renovation. But they don't serve lunch there. Only concerts and the like.
Good Salads, nice atmosphere, friendly people - Edit
Totally my style of pub - I felt home immediately. On my first visit I had a sound tapas style salad to a totally fair price (there is also a discount for students). My girlfriend had a juicy-chocolate cake.
You should consider, that it is more a bar with lunch and that the food might be sold out in the evening.
We came back a few days for a cumbia/mestizo party but we only had a few drinks. I can recommend the local rhubarb spritz.
I love coming here for working lunches, or to meet with language exchange partners. As other reviewers have commented, the kitchen is not always open—they will serve food in the evening, but only if it is left over from lunch. Get there at noon or 12:30 or they will sell out of the good stuff.
Super relaxed, all veggie and mostly vegan, inexpensive. The food is simple and utilitarian, but always satisfying.
The place was very hard to find, as the numbering of the street was quite confusing and there was no sign for the cafe whatsoever. But somehow we went up some stairs and then though a gate and then up more stairs and finally we found some door, which we went through, so eventually we were in, but we wasn't sure till the last moment.
The place is very cozy and quiet. We ordered a vegetable soup with coconut milk (for 3.2 euros) and the main which they still had left at 4 pm. (for 3.8 euros), but we have seen on the blackboard that they had at least 6-7 during the day and all of them were vegan. The portions are enormous. The soup had great flavors but the vegetables were a bit overcooked, the main was a bit tasteless and overdone. We also tried some "apricot-crunchy cake" which was fabulous.
It is a real treasure that we've found a vegan-friendly place in such a small city like Jena. The food was not the best I can imagine, but with the place being so cozy and cheap, we were very satisfied what we had.

Menu changes daily. Mostly vegan. Food available on weekdays at lunchtime. They do not keep a huge stock, so coming late in the afternoon may limit your choices - be warned. According to a staff member, they sometimes serve food on Sundays after 3 pm. This place is very cheap, a meal is usually around 2,5 - 3,5 Euros, tasty (usually vegan) desserts for 1 - 1.2. Drinks, wine, beer and music. Wagner Cafe is a club / pub place in the evenings, with film screenings and live music. Check their website for program (http://www.wagnerverein-jena.de). Board games evening a few times a month. A good place to go, especially that there are no alternatives for vegan / vegetarian food in Jena.
i went there twice with 2 years inbetween. everytime the kitchen was closed, or the whole thing was under renovation.
is there somebody who ever had food there?
This is no real restaurant it's more like a cafe, as the name also suggests ;). Yes you can eat there but it's more a place for cultural diversity, off the mainstream. Lots of artists and bands in the evenings.
