Fantastic Waffles! (And Nothing Else!) - Edit
I had heard great things about the waffles here and was very excited to go during my visit to Pittsburgh. Honestly, the vegan waffles themselves really did live up to the hype for me! They are sourdough waffles with an amazingly chewy and stretchy texture. And while many toppings are not vegan (including, disappointingly, every form of chocolate) there's still a decent enough selection to make it your own. There are sweet toppings like fresh fruit, candied nuts, and Oreo pieces, as well as some savoury toppings like spinach and peppers. I also really like the chai latte with almond milk, which had a very flavourful and spiced taste to it! That said, there isn't really much to eat here besides waffles. We did try the one other clearly vegan menu option, plant based sausage patties on the side, but these seemed like they were basically just boxed frozen sausage from the grocery store or something, nothing to write home about. I'm also sad to report that the coffee is not very good here! For a place that has coffee as such a big part of the branding and identity, you'd think it would actually be good, but it was lousy burnt robusto that's only good for drowning in creamer to get your caffeine fix. Pretty bummed about that. It'd be a big improvement if they at least made it more clear what on the menu is vegan, particularly with respect to the toppings. It's also really disappointing that there's an entire $4 upcharge for any vegan waffles, which seems really egregious to me on top of it not being terribly cheap to begin with. We also experienced fairly slow service between ordering and getting our food. Maybe it was a busy Sunday morning for them, maybe they needed a whole new batch of vegan batter since it's a more niche item, but either way it was definitely annoying, especially when combined with a wait to be seated in the first place. I'm glad I tried this once but I don't know if I'd bother to return.

Great waffles - Edit
This place has great waffles and array of add-ins and toppings to choose from. Downside is the $4 up-charge for a vegan waffle but overall the waffle was extremely delicious!

Quite expensive vegan waffles - Edit
I had a vegan waffle with banana and peanut butter for take-out. Maybe it was because the waffle had cooled down and lost its crispness by the time I ate it but I was a bit disappointed (my expectations were really high though after having read the previous reviews). The batter was rather heavy and dense.
Read moreI guess I should give them another try when they're really freshly baked.
Also, I did not understand the additional $ 4 for the vegan batter. In my opinion that's way too much. Especially since the waffles are already on the expensive side.
There are quite some options for vegan toppings but unfortunately for me nothing with chocolate (the chocolate chips and chocolate sauce are not vegan).
Pros: Several vegan topping choices
Cons: High surcharge for vegan batter, Expensive

$4 up charge is too much - Edit
It was good. They had a few veggie options for the waffles but that $4 up charge was stupid. They also have beyond sausage (2 for $4.95).

Mmmm, expensive waffles - Edit
I don’t quite get the $4 up charge for vegan waffles, but it was a very, very good waffle. I just got it plain but next time I’d get fresh fruit. Did I mention how good it was? It was so good. And large. And the staff was nice. If we’re ever back in Pittsburgh I’d go back. Oh! There’s a plant-based sausage but for $5 I passed on it. Not sure what brand it is.

Vegan is $4 more! - Edit
I don’t want to give such a high rating because of the price gauging, but the vegan waffle was phenomenal.
Read moreA normal waffle was $8 plain, add $4 for vegan.
I suspect the price is fair because they make the waffles fresh, so I think they clean out all the mixing bowls to avoid cross-contamination (I didn’t ask, that’s just my guess for the wild price difference!).
Anyway, I got a plain waffle with bananas, it came with syrup, total around $14 for a waffle and I’m just not a $14 waffle kind of guy. Still, it was a really damn good waffle, and the fact that they made it so easy to make vegan earns them 4 stars, though I wish the vegan price were closer to $2 extra.
