Good food, tricky location - Edit
Parking near here is sort of a bear, but the food is good so we tough it out.

Really really expensive - Edit
So if you order on grubhub their twice baked potato is 26.50. It’s best to dine in to avoid the price gouging. This place is absurdly expensive and the food is pretty average. I feel like this place gets a good rating because it is the only vegan and gluten free place in the area. The deserts are great but it’s priced like a “fine dining” establishment and the menu really doesn’t reflect that. I wish people had access to more vegan restaurants/food in the area so that they could see that the people who own this restaurant are ripping them off.

I agree, it's a shame that a multi-billion dollar corporation like Grubhub charges such high fees! (And it's outrageous that they charge both the restaurant and the consumer...) As for Viva's high prices, they are a fully organic and gluten free establishment. I don't know if you've purchased organic or gluten free items lately, but they are extremely expensive. Viva may not be for everyone, but it is an amazing place for organic vegan food.

All Vegan Surprise in Tacoma! - Edit
We were greeted at the door, told a bit about the place since it was our first time there, and able to choose our table. Our server, Olaf, was sweet and helped us narrow down all of the amazing-looking options on the menu. We settled on the garlic bread, fettuccini, and chocolate mousse torte. Creamy, delicious heaven in our mouths!! Thank you for a great lunch!

Not Very Good/Expensive - Edit
First of all the staff was great. As a long time vegans we love to try new Restaurants. We had 3 different entrees (pizza, chic’n feta chine, bean burger). None of us enjoyed it and we spent over $200 including tip. Maybe just not our cup of tea. Probably worth a try but I wouldn’t eat here again.

Viva
Read moreHey y’all, this is what I got:
PB banana power (smoothie)- very smooth and tasty
Half order of viva Mac n cheese- can’t complain, a little dry and honestly not as cheesy as the Philly.
The 253 Philly- probably the best choice but not much to rave about in my opinion, unfortunately- when I see vegan restaurants use mushrooms as the “meat” I am hesitant since I feel like I can anticipate how it will come out. All that I’ve tried so far have surprised me- besides this one.
Italian Garden 8”- you call this a pizza? No “cheese”, they stack all of the toppings to have any flavor, just not well done.
Friend for a cookie and coffee and said he liked it
Very pricey for the quality. It took quite a bit of time for the all the food to the table, but the staff was just there.
I wasn’t too impressed at all. It definitely needs improvement on its quality. It seems that their drinks and deserts might take the cake. It’s hard for me to say what they need to do, it’s definitely worth a shot and I tried a bit of the food but not all of their food to make the fullest fair judgement. But it needs improvement. It’s a 2.
Pros: Cheesiness of the Philly , Non-vegan friend enjoyed the coffee and cookie, They have potential
Cons: Quality/quantity, Price

Worth Trying - Edit
I love that it’s an all vegan restaurant, and I love the care put into each dish, but for the price I expected it to be a little more WOW. I know things are more expensive these days but $80 for two people to have a casual lunch is a bit much.

Found ourselves in Tacoma for the day and enjoyed a late lunch here! I’m sometimes skeptical of places that are fully gluten-free, but nothing we had gave away the lack of gluten. Looking forward to our next visit!

My new favorite WA restaurant - Edit
Delicious food and fantastic customer service. The owner came out to chat with us and we had a great conversation. I like that they offer a half order on some of the menu items. I can’t wait to try everything on the menu. Very happy to have found a place that is vegan, gluten free and organic.

Organic, Gluten Free and Vegan - Edit
We were excited to try this place just for the nachos alone, which did not disappoint! Large portion, tons of flavor and pretty cool that the “meat” crumbles were made from walnuts. The fettuccine was good but we asked for some alterations which they messed up on. They quickly fixed it after we mentioned it. The breaded tofu on top was great! A little salty, but since the noodles were not salty they balanced out. It’s a cute place with good music playing from the 90’s which wasn’t too loud so we could hear each other talk. Clean bathrooms! Decent service but a tad slow and short staffed. A smallish menu with high prices. Also, if you add guac to your nachos it’s $5 more. Same for adding mushrooms to the fettuccine, $5 extra. The desserts didn’t impress me. I guess because I like gluten, the textures were too dense and mealy for my taste. We sampled the cookies & cream cake, rainbow carrot cake, lemon loaf and toffee truffle. I enjoyed the truffle but the rest, not so much. The cookies & cream cake was moist but had an off-putting flavor. The carrot cake had yummy spices but it was dry. The lemon loaf was a dry brick but had good lemony flavor. All of the desserts sans cookies and brownies are kept cold so the temperature wasn’t optimal for eating enjoyment. Overall though, this place is great for vegans who want gluten free as well.

Always love a 100% vegan place. Attentive service, fresh flowers on every table. Warm, modern, inviting. I had the chicken alfredo and loved it! My friend enjoyed the mushroom melt sandwich. We both loved the bbq cauli wings with blue cheese dressing. You can get a personal 8” pizza for under $20, but the other apps and entres are $20-30

It Will Do - Edit
I've been here probably about 5 or 6 times over the last three years, including today. I know this is vague and not that helpful, but I'm just never that excited about any of the menu items. Then when I get whatever I order, it is fine -- sometimes good -- but never amazing. Their service is the same, fine but just a bit slow all the time. You won't have to wait for too long for them to refill your water, for example, but you'll have to wait a little at least. The prices for most dishes are now in the $20+ range. I know the cost of labor is high and I know they use organic ingredients. But the price, combined with everything else just does not get me excited about this place. If you need somewhere in Tacoma, it will do. The deserts, when I've tried them, have been good. Probably the next time I'm in the Proctor District, I'll go to the nearby Peaks and Pints beer hall for their killer vegan sandwich and a beer, and then come to Viva for a dessert.

When I walked in the waitress was warm and welcoming. I told she I am recently vegan and needed help deciding. I got the Thai peanut cashew stir fry with extra sauce and extra mushrooms. It was amazing. I could only eat half, I’m excited to have half for tomorrow’s lunch. #Veganuary

I really enjoyed the lemon loaf and salted Carmel. The mushroom melt was ok, tasted basically like cheesy bbq mushroom sandwich, it came with an onion soup to dip which was nice (but I spilled it oops)

Good but overpriced - Edit
I’ve been going to viva for just over 3 years now. Food has always been good but the prices have gotten ridiculous for the portion size. Paid $21 for a small plate of their cauliflower wings, about 8 total pieces. I just can’t justify buying anything other than the nachos or Mac at this point. If you have a ton of money this is the place to go though!

So many desserts - Edit
I loved the peppermint patty truffle, lemon cake (so moist), chorizo scramble, nachos, and chickun and waffles. Other things were good, but I probably wouldn’t order again (brulee french toast, breakfast burrito, biscuits and gravy, wings, brownie sandwich). The mushroom melt was really not to my taste though. Looking forward to trying more desserts!

Bold flavors - Edit
Great to have a restaurant where all dishes are vegan and gluten-free. All dishes have bold flavors, which can make for a great experience - though, if the flavor combination is not to one’s liking, can also be too intense. I personally really liked the nachos supreme with all the different flavors and textures, and it’s a big portion. The ginger tamari wings, the fettuccine and the stir fry were also really to my taste. However, the mushroom melt had way too much garlic and balsamic vinegar leading to a pungent taste. They have a wide selection of creative desserts as well. On the slightly more expensive side.

Allergic reaction to food and no compensation - Edit
Very poor customer service. I was extremely disappointed. I ordered a pizza from Viva Tacoma and it came with jalapeños, which was not disclosed on the online menu. I am allergic to jalapeños and had an allergic reaction to the pizza. After calling and speaking to the manager, then the owner herself, they gave no refund and did not offer to remake the pizza. I had heard good things about this restaurant, but my customer service experience was ruined when they did nothing to fix the situation even though I had an allergic reaction. After working in customer service for 8 years, I know standard is to offer a refund or remake the food in a situation such as this. I genuinely did not expect such disrespect.

Nacho supreme reign supreme - Edit
We stumbled upon Viva while in Tacoma, and we were not disappointed. We ordered the Nacho supreme and we were so happy with the meal. The flavors were outstanding, no kidding, best nachos we’ve had. Oh, and it’s a nacho mountain, they do not skimp on the serving. We also ordered the French dip, and the mushroom meat was fantastic. Staff was friendly and attentive. We will be back for more!
